The 21st Cartier Racing Awards are announced and presented tomorrow evening (Tuesday, November 15) at the Dorchester Hotel in London before an invited audience of 300 consisting of the top jockeys (champions Frankie Dettori and Ryan Moore have accepted plus others such as Hayley Turner, Richard Hughes and William Buick), top trainers (Sir Henry Cecil, Luca Cumani etc), big owners and personalities in European racing, as well as guests like sporting greats Ed Moses and Barry McGuigan.
There are eight Cartier horse awards including the prestigious Cartier Horse Of The Year which is almost certain to go to the unbeaten Frankel, the world’s best horse trained by Sir Henry Cecil in Newmarket.
Established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing, the Cartier Awards are determined by points earned by horses in Pattern races throughout 2011, combined at the end of the season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists and votes from readers of the Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph.
In addition eight equine awards for the year’s top horses, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit goes to the person or persons who, in the opinion of the special 17-strong Cartier Jury, has/have done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months.
