STRONG TEAM FROM THE HANNON YARD TO HEAD TO THIS WEEKEND'S VALUABLE TATTERSALLS MILLIONS
The most valuable sales race series in Europe continues this weekend, with the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Fillies’ Auction Stakes taking place this Friday at Newmarket Rowley Mile and the £200,000 Tattersalls Millions Auction Trophy on Saturday –races two and three of the eight-race series, worth a massive £1.75million in total.
Richard Hannon, who is vying for the lead in the Trainers Championship with Sir Michael Stoute, is likely to be well represented on Friday and Saturday chasing further prize money to increase his lead in the Championship. He is currently just under £38,000 ahead of his nearest rival.
The East Everleigh yard has entered three fillies in the first Tattersalls Millions Race of the weekend, including MEMORY, winner of the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes and DATE WITH DESTINY, the only offspring of the ill fated George Washington. However, MEMORY is likely to head for the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes according to Harry Herbert of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, who own the filly, so the Hannon team will have to rely on DATE WITH DESTINY and KALAHAAG, third in a nursery at Newmarket last time out and owned by former ABBA member Benny Andersson in the fillies race. Both DATE WITH DESTINY and KALAHAAG are also in the Tattersalls Millions 2YO Trophy (open to both colts and fillies) on Saturday, along with KOJAK, an unlikely runner, TALE UNTOLD, STANDOUT, ZEBEDEE, who won the Flying Childers at Doncaster last week and AULD BURNS, whom the team think a lot of.
Richard Hannon Jnr commented, “Date with Destiny goes for the Tattersalls Millions this weekend. We still think a lot of her and she didn’t like the ground last time out at Goodwood, so we’d be hopeful. We have also left Zebedee in the £200,000 race on Saturday as we are not certain yet to what his plans will be. The other horse that we have entered that I like a lot is Auld Burns, who was fourth last time in a Listed race at Ascot and he’d go to Newmarket with a good chance.”
Other interesting entries in the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Fillies Auction Stakes include WARM BREEZE from Michael Jarvis’s yard, who is well regarded having won a maiden easily on her only start, BUTTON MOON, who was second in the opening race of the series three weeks ago and KHOR SHEED, a Listed winner from the Luca Cumani stable.
Other notable entries amongst the 55 horses left in the £200,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO Trophy include RUDOLF VALENTINO, the top price at last year’s Tattersalls October Sale, Book 1 when sold to John Magnier for 700,000gns. Aidan O’Brien also has ORACLE, QUEEN OF SPAIN, and TOGETHER, a Group 3 winner, as possible runners. FORMOSINA, who won the Group 2 Railway Stakes in Ireland at the end of June for Jeremy Noseda, has been left in along with David Brown’s EASY TICKET, LUCY LIMELITES and SERGEANT ABLETT, who both won their maidens first time out on their only start and SIR REGINALD for in form trainer Richard Fahey.
