CAMBRIDGESHIRE MEETING, NEWMARKET
RACENEWS RACECOURSE SERVICE
SECOND DAY, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2006
NEWMARKET AND THE JOCKEY CLUB MARK THE QUEEN’S 80TH BIRTHDAY
To mark Her Majesty The Queen’s 80th birthday, Newmarket Racecourse is staging a special day’s racing on Friday 27th October.
All seven races on the card are named after notable horses owned and raced by The Queen, dating back to her first success in 1949 with Monaveen.
The Queen, accompanied by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, will attend the meeting as guests of the Jockey Club, of which she is Patron.
Lisa Hancock, Managing Director of Newmarket Racecourses, said: “Her Majesty’s patronage and support of racing over the years has been invaluable and, together with the Jockey Club, we are looking forward to staging a unique fixture designed to recognise her in this special year.”
The two feature races of the day are both Listed events; ‘The Highclere E.B.F. Fillies Stakes’ and ‘The Pall Mall Stakes’.
Both horses enjoyed their most important victories on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile when winning the 1000 and 2000 Guineas respectively.
GREAT DAY IN STORE AT HEADQUARTERS TOMORROW
Michael Prosser, Newmarket’s clerk of the course, is highly excited about tomorrow’s cracking seven-race card, which features the totesport Cambridgeshire and the Group 1 Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes.
Prosser said: “We are really looking forward to the day and the weather forecast is good and advance ticket sales have gone well.
“We have an excellent card and the Finnforest EBF Oh So Sharp Stakes begins the day with an extra competitive high-quality field of 15 fillies which sets the standard for the rest of the day.
“The totesport Cambridgeshire has 34 horses all within a stone of each other.”

WILL HE BE SMART ENOUGH?
KERRIN ON HIS BIG CHANCE
Kerrin McEvoy is hoping to cap a superb week with success on Smart Enough in the £150,000 totesport Cambridgeshire tomorrow.
The Australian jockey rode a double at Nottingham on Tuesday and then rattled off a hat-trick at Salisbury 24 hours later.
Now he is hoping the Mikael Magnusson-trained three-year-old can complete his own three-timer with victory in the famous handicap.
McEvoy said: “In England I haven’t won a big handicap like the Cambridgeshire – this is probably my best chance in one (so far). He is a nice horse for that type of race.
“He is easy to ride in big fields because he gets out in front or lays up handy. He has good gate speed.”
One statistic that is against Smart Enough is his low draw. Only once in the past 10 years has the Cambridgeshire been won with a single-figure draw (Spanish Don emerged from box three to serve up a 100-1 shock in 2004). But McEvoy isn’t overly concerned that Saturday will see his mount emerge from the eight stall.
He said: “The draw doesn’t really matter for a horse like him because he can make his own running. He is a horse that, say we were drawn on the wrong part of the course, would be a good chance to angle to wherever you wanted to go.”
The ground also won’t present any fears. He won on a fast surface on his penultimate start on the July Course before triumphing at York last month with underfoot ease. “The ground is not going to worry me, either way,” said McEvoy.
But 34 rivals are sure to give Magnusson’s market leader plenty to think about. Second favourite Fairmile – two wins from his last four starts – is drawn on the far side in 32, while Illustrious Blue from box 29 is also entitled to massive respect as he bids to improve on a four from five record since joining rookie trainer William Knight.
Knight said: “I think he goes to the Cambridgeshire with a great each-way chance. He has improved 21lb in the last couple of months or so.
“He will need to improve a little bit more, but I think he is in good nick and I hope he will run a big race.
“He has been trained for the Cambridgeshire. He has won over nine furlongs, so the trip is fine for him. The only concern may be the ground if it becomes too soft. He has won in the soft before but I feel he does prefer good ground or quicker.”
Sir Mark Prescott knows how to land the totesport Cambridgeshire, having struck with Quinlan Terry (1988), Pasternak (1997) and Chivalry in 2003. Tomorrow he’ll saddle Spectait, who was successful at Goodwood on what was his last start.
Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes Preview
SHE’S ON SONG FOR GROUP ONE TASK
James Fanshawe reports his stable star Soviet Song to be in good order ahead of tomorrow’s £200,000 Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes
The six-year-old mare could only finish fifth of six in the Celebration Stakes on her last start.
But Fanshawe feels that if you drew a line through that Goodwood effort, then the daughter of Marju has to be seriously factored into the equation in the nine-runner event.
The locally based trainer will be double-handed for the Group One with Musicanna also lining up.
Fanshawe said: “They both blew out on Thursday morning and seemed well. The more rain the better for Musicanna. She ran very well in the Falmouth (third to Rajeem) and is in good form.
“I think Soviet Song will enjoy the easier ground as well. She won the Sweet Solera on it as a two-year-old.
“It is a tough race but if you get forget the Celebration Mile, she is in there with every chance.”
The filly they will all have to beat is Red Evie, winner of her last seven races. She earned her first triumph at the top table when scoring in the Group One Matron Stakes three weeks ago.
Peeress was on target for the Sir Michael Stoute team in this race 12 months ago and the Pivotal mare is back hunting for more glory tomorrow.
The Rowley Mile course was the scene for Flat racing’s most romantic story of the year when Speciosa prevailed in the Stan James 1000 Guineas in early May.
Trainer Pam Sly’s flying filly will once more trek across the Fens for a tilt at a big pot at HQ.
Alexander Goldrun, involved in arguably the greatest race of the year when second to Ouija Board in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood, will aim to regain the winning thread.
UAE 1,000 Guineas winner Vague represents Newmarket handler Jeremy Noseda, while the field is completed by Flashy Wings and Spinning Queen.
RESERVE USED FOR FIRST TIME IN totesport CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Boule d’Or was withdrawn from the tomorrow’s totesport Cambridgeshire at 11.27am today which means the first reserve, Seulement, trained by Luca Cumani and ridden by Nicky Mackay, will replace him, taking the number 1 saddle cloth.
The weights will not go up for the £150,000 totesport Cambridgeshire because of the time of the withdrawal - if top-weight had been taken out an hour earlier, the weights would have risen by 1lb.
This means that Cesare, with 9st 9lb, will be the top-weight, while Seulement will carry 8st 8lb.
The deadline for a reserve to be prompted was 11.30am today.
This is the first time that a reserve has come into the totesport Cambridgeshire which again has 35 declared runners.
TOTESPORT ON TOP SO FAR
totesport, sponsor of tomorrow’s totesport Cambridgeshire, report the historic handicap as a trappy event for punters so far.
The bookmaker’s two worst ante-post losers, Sir Gerard and Forgery, are both non-runners - the former was pulled out at the five-day stage, while Forgery went lame on the gallops.
In addition to the 1m 1f contest being a bad race for ante-post punters, two really well-backed horses, Smart Enough and Charlie Cool, have received single-figure draws. Smart Enough will emerge from stall eight, while the latter has berth four.
In the last 10 years only Spanish Don in 2004 has defied a single-figure draw - the six-year-old came out of stall three.
As a result, both horses were knocked out in the betting by totesport, who now go 13/2 about Smart Enough (from 5/1), while Charlie Cool is out to 11/1 (from 9/1).
With the draw potentially going against this pair, the worst losers for totesport are Illustrious Blue, who is now 20/1 (from 25) after being trimmed yesterday, and Fairmile, who is an 8/1 shot.
CESARE OUT OFF totesport CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Cesare, who became top-weight of tomorrow’s totesport Cambridgeshire this morning, has just been taken out of the race with a vet’s certificate.
Trainer James Fanshawe’s charge had been due to shoulder 9st 9lb.

THOUSAND WORDS PAINTS A PICTURE
THOUSAND WORDS put his best foot forward to power to success in the Somerville Tattersall Stakes.
The Dansili colt was a little buzzy ahead of his last start in the Champagne Stakes at York, according to his trainer Barry Hills.
But he couldn’t have been cooler in despatching his 10 rivals with the minimum of fuss.
St Philip led them along them through the early paces in the Group Three before Dijeerr took front rank over two furlongs.
But Thousand Words had always travelled kindly for jockey Richard Hughes on the far rail and comfortably moved to the head of affairs over one furlong out.
He really lengthened in the style of a smart type putting two-and-a-half lengths between himself and the runner-up Dijeerr at the finishing line.
Hills said: “His attitude was better today because he relaxed. Last time at York he was buzzy and never comfortable.
“He is a decent horse and is still immature. I don’t know if he will run again this year but if he did it would probably be in the Dewhurst. What else are you going to run a horse like him in?
“That will have to be discussed with Prince Khalid Abdulla and Lord Grimthorpe, so we will see.”
The performance was sufficiently impressive for totesport to trim him to 20-1 (from 25-1) for next year’s 2,000 Guineas.
Blue Square and William Hill both cut him from 33 to 25-1, while vc bet remained at 33s.

HUGHES AND GRIMTHORPE DELIGHTED
Richard Hughes, the winning rider on Thousand Words, commented: “ I don’t know what happened with him at York last time out.
“I got down to the start and I wasn’t happy with him. He went down all right but the longer we were down there the worse he got and we seemed to be down there for an hour.
“He’s a very tall horse and can only improve. He has done it well today even though we probably got there half an hour too soon.
“It is soft ground and quite tiring as well.”
Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to winning owner Khalid Abdulla, said: “Barry (Hills - the trainer) has always had a good opinion of Thousand Words.
“We were shocked and very disappointed at York - he just had one of those days - he was out of sorts and lost a lot of weight after that race. Dansilis have very good temperaments. So it must just have been an off day.
“But he came back really well and he has handled the soft ground today. He is in the Dewhurst (Newmarket, Group One, sponsored by Darley on October 14) though that may be too soon.”

DIJEERR FINDS ONE TOO GOOD
Michael Jarvis believes that his runner-up Dijeerr came up against a good horse in Thousand Words when finding that rival two and a half lengths too powerful in the opening Somerville Tattersall Stakes.
The local trainer said: “Dijeerr travelled nicely and the winner sat in behind and when he went, he put it to bed very quickly.
“The winner is probably a nice horse and I don’t know what happened to him in the Champagne Stakes at York, where he didn’t run a race.
“I don’t know whether my fellow will run again this year - I shall speak to the powers that be.”
GROUND
After the first race the following jockeys reported the ground as:
Richard Hughes, rider of the winner, Thousand Words said: “It’s very soft.”
Neil Callan described the ground as “Soft, it’s hard work keeping them balanced. Though it’s not exactly holding. Clay like really.”
Richard Hills said it was “ Very soft.”
This was agreed by Martin Dwyer, Kerrin McEvoy and Phillip Robinson.
Richard Hills described the going as “Soft” as did Frankie Dettori.
While Eddie Ahern thought the ground “Very heavy.”

INK STAMPS MARK WITH GROUP ONE JOY
INDIAN INK built on a sales’ race success at Ascot last Friday with a battling display to edge a thrilling Sky Bet Cheveley Park Stakes.
The Indian Ridge filly entered the 1,000 Guineas equation with a gutsy effort, holding at bay Dhanyata for a neck triumph under Richard Hughes.
The 3-1 joint favourite led late in the six-furlong Group One and stuck her head out when it counted to provide trainer Richard Hannon with a first-ever victory in the race.
Hannon said: “I’m delighted for her – she is a lovely-looking filly. She looked like she got into a bit of trouble just going into the Dip.
“I thought we were in trouble for a second. But when she hit the rising ground, she ran on again.
“She is a very good filly. We would have to be looking at the Guineas, wouldn’t we? She has got a bit of size and is out of a Darshaan mare, so there’s really no reason why she shouldn’t get a mile.
“Last Friday, she looked like she was very well in, in the Watership Down Stud sales race at Ascot.
“She came out of the race very well and we thought we might as well have a crack at this if we had rain, which we did. She needs a bit of ease in the ground, I suppose.”
Ladbrokes slashed her to 20-1 (from 33s) for the 1,000 Guineas, while both Paddy Power and Cashmans introduced her at 25-1 in their respective markets for the fillies’ classic at Newmarket next year.
Sky Bet gave £500 to the winning groom. Lukas Kubes, who normally looks after Indian Ink, was unable to travel to Newmarket because he has a bad back so Hayley Kington led up the filly. She said she would share the £500 price with Lukas!
Hughes was riding a 33/1 double after being successful in the first on Thousand Words

VERY TOUGH FILLY
Richard Hughes, the winning rider on Indian Ink who cost 25,000 guineas as a yearling, reported: "Thank God the boss (Richard Hannon) ran her because it was a bit close to Ascot to be fair, but she was very tough today.
"I told the boss I might make it or sit handy but he said, don't you go making it for the others', so I said as long as I was up there I would keep sitting on her and go for one little dash to win.
“Michael (Kinane) led me and actually went three parts up. I thought I was in trouble for a bit but when Jimmy (Fortune) came on the outside she just pulled out enough.
"I just felt at York that I kicked and I won my race and then gave it away. She's always been straightforward at home. She always works and does everything right. She's just getting a bit better now with the ground."
It was a first Group One Sky Bet Cheveley Park Stakes win for both Hughes and Hannon.
Indian Ink is owned by lawyer Raymond Tooth who will be buying again at the forthcoming yearling sales.

MEEHAN JUST DENIED HAT-TRICK
Brian Meehan came extremely close to a hat-trick of Sky Bet Cheveley Park Stakes victories after Dhanyata was collared inside the final furlong by Indian Ink, who went on to win by a neck. Meehan had previously struck with Magical Romance in 2004 and Donna Blini the following season.
“Jimmy [Fortune, jockey] said that the outside draw didn’t help and she was leaning out all the way,” explained Meehan.
“He was disappointed with the draw and thought he just had the edge. But all credit to the winner - I finished second to her with Siamese Cat last week at Ascot and she is a good winner and a proper filly.
“Dhanyata is improving and might come back here for the Rockfel Stakes [Newmarket, Group 2, sponsored by Owen Brown on October 14]. The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies might be an option - everyone else is going!”
Mick Channon’s Silca Chiave was a further length and a quarter away in third.
The trainer said: “I am very pleased and she has run her race. I have no complaints and she was probably beaten by a filly [Indian Ink] who loves the ground.
“All credit to Richard Hannon and it was a brave decision to run her after winning just a week ago. She is a good, solid filly.
“Our filly stumbled a bit in the ground but that happens and it’s racing. She’s finished for this year now.”

SALES RACE CAPTAIN KIRK STRIKES AGAIN
Sylvester Kirk and owner Norman Ormiston have already had one big pay-day this year when Elhamri won the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury and they collected again when Caldra held off Tobosa by half a length in the £250,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes.
The winning trainer said: “He is a good horse and I was so disappointed when he was beat first time. He was castrated and has been a totally different horse since and has improved so much since then.
“He might go for the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Ascot over a mile next weekend and we will think about that although it might come too soon.
“Unfortunately, as he is a gelding, he can’t go for any of those nice big fancy races.
“I won the race before four years’ ago with Michelle Ma Belle. I was worried about dropping to six furlongs as Caldra is a miler and we took a big chance.
“I did think that he had enough pace to come back in trip but if a good horse gets beat when you do that, you can end up with egg on your face!
“However, the conditions suited and were in favour of his stamina.”
Ormiston added: “He cost 14,000gns and I am very happy as that was all the budget we had and I am very pleased. Hopefully, we’ll see you back here again next year!”

REAL GOOD
Ryan Moore, the winning jockey on Caldra, declared: "He's a real good horse. He pinged out today and travelled a lot better than I thought he would.
“He's had to wait for a split, which didn't help him trying to get some momentum up, and when he's knuckled down he's just ground away the other horse.
“He found plenty up the hill. Better ground would help him an awful lot and he'll be a nice horse next year.”

HORRIS HILL A POSSIBLE FOR BRAVE TOBOSA
TRAINER WILLIAM Jarvis indicated that Tobosa may head to the Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury on October 21.
The Tobougg colt went down by half-a-length to Caldra in a thrilling renewal of the £250,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes.
Jarvis said: “That was a great performance and I’m thrilled with him – but I hate finishing second!
“He has run a blinder and I thought we had got it. But take nothing away from the winner – he is a good horse.
“While mine will be a nice horse for next year, we may well have a look at the Horris Hill. It’s a long winter.”
Aahayson ran well to take third for trainer Karl Burke’s team.
Kelly Burke, daughter of Karl, said: “We are delighted with him. He is getting better and better with every race.
“I would have thought that we will put him away now and let him strengthen up for next year.”

Race 4 The Shadwell Middle Park Stakes Gr1

DUTCH ART IN GROUP 1 STRIKE
DUTCH ART franked the form of his Prix Morny success with a top-class performance to take the Group One Shadwell Middle Park Stakes in impressive style.
The unbeaten Medicean colt stalked the pace after just needing to settle into a rhythm from the stalls for jockey Frankie Dettori.
But he picked off Captain Marvelous and Brave Tin Soldier with the minimum of fuss before going on to score easily by two lengths.
It was trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam’s first Group One victory in Britain since returning here from Hong Kong for the 2004 season.
Chapple-Hyam last won this race in 1991 with Rodrigo Di Triano, who went on to take the following season’s 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
The bookies raced to slash the winner for next year’s 2,000 Guineas with Paddy Power now 8-1 (from 14) and William Hill 9-1 (from 16s), while Coral and Ladbrokes reacted with 10-1 quotes (from 16).
Chapple-Hyam said: ”It is a fantastic result. This horse just gets better and better. He has kept growing and improving throughout the year.
“I’m sure he will get better. We won’t see the best of him until next year.
“He has surprised me. I’ve always thought he was a decent Group horse, but I didn’t think he was the real McCoy until going into the Norfolk Stakes.
“He has got an unbelievable turn of foot and he did it quite easily. I’m just sorry that Alan Munro wasn’t here to ride him.
“I bought him to be a sharp and early two-year-old. Last year I didn’t really have many two-year-olds, so I thought I better go and buy some sharp ones. As luck would have it, I’ve just happened to have him.
“The 2000 Guineas is now his main target. Whether we have a run before I will discuss with his owners Paul and Susan Roy.
Dettori said: “He travelled like a good horse and when I asked him to quicken off he went.
“I didn’t really have to do too much as he is a real pro. I can’t praise him enough. Right now six furlongs isn’t a problem and a mile shouldn’t be beyond his reach next year.”

DUTCH ART FOUR FROM FOUR
Frankie Dettori, the winning rider on Dutch Art in the Group One Shadwell Middle Park Stakes, said: “He's four from four now and when I was third to him in the Prix Morny I thought this was a special horse.
“Today I was never in any danger. All I had to do was change my hands, and he picked up and won like a good horse should do.
“I didn't even break sweat. He's a lovely horse at home and doesn't do a tap. When he comes to the races, he just lights up and runs like a good horse.
"I haven’t ridden him on good ground but he handled that very well. They say good horses go on any ground and that seems to be the case with this one.
“The Guineas (Stan James 2000 Guineas at Newmarket) over a mile next year will definitely be the target. I just want to say a special hello to Alan (Munro) - this is another of his good horses I've got on this year, and I hope you get well soon."
This was Dettori’s third success in the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes - the first two came in 1996 with Bahamian Bounty and in 1998 with Lujain.
Dutch Art cost 16,000 guineas as a yearling.

WI DUD CERTAINLY NO DUD
Kevin Ryan and John Duddy found Dutch Art two lengths too good in their bid to emulate Amadeus Mozart’s victory in last year’s Shadwell Middle Park Stakes with Wi Dud, but the trainer was extremely proud of the Elnadim colt.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted and Wi Dud is a proper horse. He travelled really well and I was worried about the ground, but fair dos to the winner who is a top-class horse.
“Wi Dud switched off and picked up well off the ground. He is a real little warrior to run like that over a stiff six furlongs on that ground and it is all to come for him.
“He is off on his holidays now and he’ll be a five/six furlong horse next year. He is one of those horses who tries no matter what the ground is like and I am so proud of him.”
Jockey Neil Callan added: “The winner is a good horse and quickened away from him. Wi Dud switched off so well over that trip and kept going all the way to the line.
“I had reservations over the trip but when two horses came to him, he stuck on well.”

DEGAS ART PLOUGHS LONE FURROW
Kerrin McEvoy managed to avoid a blasting from trainer David Elsworth by holding on on Degas Art, who raced alone on the far side, by one and three-quarter lengths from Into The Dark.
The local trainer said: “Obviously it was a disadvantage on the far side as the rest of the field came on the other side so more credit to the horse.
“I don’t know if there is any difference in the ground on the two sides - I like my horses to be with the other horses as you know then that there is no disadvantage.
“He has run with great tenacity previously with other horses but he was certainly not disadvantaged today - I thought that Kerrin [McEvoy, jockey] would get a rollicking if he was beaten, and a pat on the back if he wins. He thought that the others would follow but once he was committed, he should stay there.
“Degas Art is a fine, big horse who will interest the jumps boys and I would certainly be tempted to jump him as he stays well and would have a future in the winter game.
“But he’s rated high on the Flat at over 100 [105 today].”

INTO THE DARK WON HIS RACE – GODOLPHIN
INTO THE Dark pleased connections with a fine – if ultimately fruitless - effort in the Pearl Smith Godolphin Stakes.
The lightly-raced five-year-old came out best of those who raced on the stands’ side, edging his own personal tussle with Mashaahed as Degas Art came home the winner on the far rail.
Diana Cooper, representing Godolphin, said: “We are delighted with him.
“He liked the step up in trip (to a mile-and-a-half). He did everything that Frankie (Dettori) asked him to.
“He won his race. Fingers crossed, there is no reason why we shouldn’t run him back – probably in the middle of next month.
“The plan would be to run him back over the same trip on nice soft ground.”

DESERT DEW BUILDS ON DEBUT EFFORT
DESERT DEW returned to the NatWest Rowley Mile course to record a convincing length-and-three-quarter victory in the Macmillan Cancer Support EBF Maiden.
Barry Hills’ charge met interference in running when making his debut here 10 days earlier.
But there were no concerns this time as jockey Michael Hills always had him well placed.
The 7-2 shot ended up winning comfortably from stable-mate Urban Spirit as Lambourn trainer Hills registered an approximate 37-1 double.
Hills said: “He was a bit green and got chopped off a couple times last time. But he is a nice horse with a good temperament – which is what we want.
“We will see how he is after this. If he is alright, then the Horris Hill might be a possibility.
“But I am really pleased with him today. He was very professional.”
Of the runner-up Urban Spirit, Hills added: “We will put him away now. He is a nice horse, too.”
Sir Michael Stoute, trainer of the third-placed beaten 3-1 favourite Al Tharib, said: “That was a promising run and he is a horse with a future. I am happy with him.”

SUPERSONIC DAVE BREAKS THE SOUND BARRIER
Supersonic Dave was impressive on his racecourse debut to win division 2 of the juvenile maiden by three-quarters of a length from Kirk Michael.
Winning trainer Brian Meehan said: “That wasn’t really a surprise and he is a nice, grand horse and I think the world of him and am very pleased.
“I am delighted as he is lovely and he has been working well all year but has taken his time to come through. He has done it well and was stretching out well. What I will do now with him, I don’t know.”
Dane O’Neill, rider of the runner-up Kirk Michael, said: “We are pleased enough with him. The winner is smart but mine will make up into a nice three-year-old.”
Jeremy Noseda, trainer of third-placed Glen Nevis, said: “That was a good introduction. We will most probably now look for a little contest for him before the end of the season.”
Race 8 The Greene King IPA Handicap Stakes
Win Quotes
GODOLPHIN ONE-TWO IN NIGHT-CAP
RAMPALLION LED home stable-mate Priors Hill to take the concluding Greene King IPA handicap.
Both were taking their seasonal bows after being below par for much of the campaign.
But there was nothing wrong with the displays they served up late this afternoon as Rampallion prevailed a shade comfortably by a neck.
Simon Crisford, racing manager to Godolphin, said: “Both of these horses were held up in the early part of the year. They were right off colour, hence their belated seasonal debuts.
“They are horses for next year, really, so we’re delighted to get them back before the end of this season. They will most probably have another run this year.”
GROUND
The ground has now been changed to “soft” from good to soft early this morning.
The change occurred due to 2.5 millimetres of rain falling during a heavy shower at midday, after which Michael Prosser, Newmarket’s clerk of the course, walked the track and decided to change the going all over.
GOING
Today’s going has changed to “Good to soft,” from Good yesterday. Michael Prosser, Newmarket’s Clerk of the Course, said: “We had 10mm of rain overnight and the going has now changed.
“The forecast is for further showers today and if we got a sharp shower, we might change the going again to soft.
“Yesterday’s racing went very well and the ground rode on the slow side of good.”
2006 COURSE LAYOUT
Racing over the three days of the Cambridgeshire Meeting is taking place on the far side of the track and will accommodate the 35-runner maximum field for the totesport Cambridgeshire on ground that has not been raced on since May.
The stalls for all races will be on the far side.
