BP= the best price at the time of writing

Going - Soft

5.25pm - £18,000 Caplan Gordon Carter Handicap 2m

1) 6610 DOROTHY’S FRIEND Non runner

2) 3088 WINGED D’ARGENT 1 Mark Johnston 6-9-13b Joe Fanning
Moody, inconsistent sort with plenty of ability when he’s on song, as when a close third in a Listed contest at Sandown in July. However, he has not repeated that form in three subsequent runs, coming home last of eight behind Sergeant Cecil in the Group Two Doncaster Cup last time and is best avoided here. BP= 8/1

3) 52-7 HONDURAS 2 Gary Moore 5-9-12 George Baker
Ex-Norwegian gelding who ran seventh behind Crosspeace in a Listed event at Goodwood before finishing second over hurdles at Fontwell earlier this month on fast ground. He has plenty to find on the form figures and is easily bypassed. BP= 33/1

4) 30-6 GOLD GUN 4 Kevin Ryan 4-9-10p Neil Callan
Scored over 11 furlongs for Michael Jarvis last year but was well-beaten for new trainer on return at York behind Sunday Symphony following 11 months on the sidelines. He is entitled to come on for that run but this is a big ask. BP= 25/1

5) 187- GARDEN SOCIETY 9 Terry Clement 9-9-02 Saleem Golam
Normally operates on the all-weather tracks, winning twice at Lingfield and Wolverhampton, although does handle turf, as when scoring over this trip on good ground at Yarmouth a year ago. However, he has not been out since December last year and is unlikely to be cherry-ripe first time out. BP= 33/1

6) -411 FAIR ALONG 8 Philip Hobbs 4-9-04 Jamie Spencer
Finished second behind stablemate Detroit City in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. He has since made giant strides on the Flat from a low handicap mark, winning two Salisbury handicaps with plenty in hand over 14 furlongs. He is a tough front runner who is bound to be there at the finish. However, he is a very short price. BP= 2/1

7) 1214 WHISPERING DEATH 7 Non runner

8) 0816 STOOP TO CONQUER 6 John Dunlop 6-8-13 Ryan Moore
Got the better of the progressive Zurbaran at Newbury last month and put up another good performance when sixth to Peppertree Lane over inadequate test (14 furlongs) at Haydock on September 2. He handles soft ground and should give supporters a run for their money without being good enough. BP= 7/2

9) 51U5 LIGHTNING STRIKE 11 Terry Mills 3-8-12 Ian Mongan
Excellent run when fifth in the Queen’s Vase over course and distance in June. Unseated rider at start at Salisbury two runs back but should have run better last time when well-beaten fifth of six at Nottingham and looks one to be wary of at present. BP= 9/1

10) 4312 ESTABLISHMENT 10 Charles Cyzer 9-8-11 Frankie Dettori
Consistent veteran performer who has been in good form of late, narrowly beaten by Numero Due at Chester on September 9, having gone in at the same venue previously. He is vulnerable to the younger brigade however and a place looks the best he can hope for. BP= 13/2

11) 1028 MERSEY SOUND 3 Non runner

12) 4322 THEATRE 12 Jamie Poulton 7-8-10 John Egan
Reliable stayer who always seems to give his running but normally finds at least one too good. He is 7lb better off for a head with Establishment for a defeat at Goodwood in May. He has a good chance off his light-weight and acts on good to soft ground and hopefully this going. Excellent value with one of the most shrewd jockeys on board. BP= 10/1

SUMMARY
Theatre
is the clear value is this staying handicap. Back him each way.

GOOD LUCK
