WORLD“S BIGGEST COFFEE MORNING COMES TO NEWMARKET!

In conjunction with Macmillan Cancer Relief, Newmarket's Rowley Mile Racecourse will be joining in on the World's Biggest Coffee Morning fund raising event on Friday, September 30, the second day of the Cambridgeshire Meeting which features the Group One Shadwell Stud Middle Park Stakes. The fundraising event will take place all day (gates open 10.45am; first race 1.15pm; last race 4.40pm) in the Limekilns Suite on the 3rd floor of the Millennium Stand and will be accessible to all Members' Enclosure racegoers. Coffee, tea and cake will be available throughout the day with the proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Relief.

On sale in the Limekilns Suite and in the Grandstand and Paddock area will be the "Food Glorious Food" cookbook, which has been compiled for Macmillan by their President, the Countess of Halifax. It contains over 100 recipes supplied by supporters of Macmillan Cancer Relief, including personalities from the world of racing like Frankie Dettori, Jacko Fanshawe (wife of Newmarket trainer, James Fanshawe), Lady Vestey and Lord Fairhaven, and celebrities and royalty including HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Vinnie Jones and Jilly Cooper. Donations of £5 or more are requested for a copy of the book.

"We are absolutely delighted that racegoers at Newmarket will be getting together for a coffee to join in our record breaking event," said Steve Richards, Regional Director for Macmillan Cancer Relief who was himself a Macmillan Nurse and cared for trainer Jeremy Tree who died of cancer. "Macmillan already helps thousands of people living with cancer, but the need for our services just keeps on growing. The money raised at this event in Newmarket will help us expand our services and so improve the lives of people affected by cancer."

Lisa Hancock, Newmarket's Managing Director, commented: "Macmillan provides a vital service for those affected by cancer in the UK and I hope that all Members' Enclosure racegoers here on Friday will support the event in the Limekilns Suite. The cookbook has some fantastic recipes, including Frankie Dettori's 'Tuna Al Mediterrano', and is well worth buying."

This is the 15th anniversary of Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as officially the world's largest simultaneous coffee morning, but the first time that the Rowley Mile has been involved. Last year over 1.5m people raised their mugs for Macmillan, enough coffee to fill two large swimming pools and a whole factory of biscuits!

The money raised will help Macmillan change the lives of people living with cancer in the UK. £115 could fund a Macmillan nurse for one day to offer emotional and practical support for cancer patients and their families. £100 could help provide someone undergoing cancer treatment, who is too ill to work, with a Macmillan grant for extra heating this winter. £30 could help run the Macmillan CancerLine which provides vital information and help for people with cancer and their families for one hour.

Anyone wanting to host their own coffee morning for Macmillan can call us on 0845 602 1246 or visit macmillan.org.uk/coffee to download information.
