PERSIAN PUNCH STATUE TO BE UNVEILED ON CHAMPIONS´ DAY

A magnificent life-size bronze of Persian Punch, the most popular British Flat horse of the modern era who died last year, will be unveiled in a special ceremony at the Rowley Mile Racecourse before racing on Champions´ Day, Saturday, October 15. Persian Punch won more races at Newmarket than at any other venue.

Crafted during the course of this year by one of the world´s greatest equine sculptors, Philip Blacker, the bronze statue, which weighs three-quarters of a ton, features a galloping Persian Punch and will be placed near to the old winners´ enclosure where he enjoyed his final moment of glory after capturing his third Jockey Club Cup on Champions´ Day two years ago, when beating Millenary by a short-head.

"The unveiling of the Persian Punch statue will be an eagerly anticipated moment, an opportunity to celebrate the life and achievements of this remarkable horse," commented Lisa Hancock, Newmarket´s Managing Director.

"With the highest class raceday in the British flat racing calendar to follow, Saturday, October 15, will be a day to remember at the Home of Racing."

Tickets for Champions' Day and all the other days in Newmarket's sensational autumn programme, which also features the transferred Ascot Festival on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25 and the Cambridgeshire Meeting from Thursday September, 29 to Saturday October 1, can be booked in advance with discounts available.
