THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY
HAYDOCK PARK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2004 GOING: GOOD 2.35pm Stanleybet Sprint Cup (Group 1) (3yo+), 6f For the latest odds from British-based bookmakers and exchanges, go to www.BritOdds.com (click the link above) 1) (13) 2724 Ashdown Express Chris Wall 5-9-00 Richard Mullen Admirably consistent this season and a clear chance on his best form. Ground has come in his favour. Just keeps seeming to find one or two a bit too good. BP= 16/1 2) (9) 0161 Bahamian Pirate David Nicholls 9-9-00 Darryll Holland Grand campaigner over the year and gained a Group One victory last time in the Nunthorpe at York. Ground was much softer there and doesn’t appeal in this race. BP= 28/1 3) (2) 4000 Capricho John Akehurst 7-9-00 Jimmy Quinn Has not been in great form this season and has a lot to find even on his best form. BP= 150/1 4) (19) 1069 Monsieur Bond Bryan Smart 4-9-00b1 Fergal Lynch Won the Duke Of York Stakes earlier in the campaign and didn’t enjoy the best of runs at Royal Ascot and Newmarket subsequently. However, has never been the most consistent and others appeal more, especially as he is best on very soft ground. BP= 25/1 5) (16) 5315 Orientor Jim Goldie 6-9-0 Willie Supple Probably better over five than six furlongs and ideally needs some more cut in the ground. Usually finds one or two a bit too good at this level. BP= 22/1 6) (4) 1-30 Patavellian Roger Charlton 6-9-00b Steve Drowne Landed the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp last season but has been disappointing on both outings this season. However, he has shown his best form in the autumn in the past and comes here relatively fresh. BP= 12/1 7) (1) 10-1 Ratio John Hammond 6-9-00t Philip Robinson Dead-heated with Fayr Jag in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot in 2003. Restricted to just win outing so far this year (won a Listed race at Deauville in July). His trainer has a fine record in this race (three wins) and this one is capable of running very well, especially as the Haydock clerk of the course has suggested the ground is better off the stands’ rails. BP= 16/1 8) (8) 5-10 Royal Millennium Mick Channon 6-9-00 Ted Durcan Defeated Somnus at Newcastle earlier this season but well-beaten by that rival last time out at Deauville. Has a bit to find on overall form. BP= 28/1 9) (5) 7251 Somnus Tim Easterby 4-9-00 Mick Kinane Won this race last year on soft ground and beat several of these last time out in Prix Maurice de Gheest. However, he usually needs soft ground to be seen at his best and with the ground drying out all time, he doesn’t offer great value. BP= 6/1 10) (15) 3015 The Trader Michael Blanshard 6-9-00b Fergus Sweeney Generally better at five than six furlongs but looked unlucky when fifth last time behind Somnus. However, generally needs softer ground. BP= 22/1 11) (17) 4652 Welsh Emperor Tom Tate 5-9-00b Robert Winston Looks way out of his depth. BP= 66/1 12) (11) -332 Cartography Saeed bin Suroor 3-8-12t Kerrin McEvoy Has shown promise and is a lightly-raced sort. Has to improve on what he has shown so far. BP= 40/1 13) 0(6)2661 Mac Love John Akehurst 3-8-12 John Egan Successful last time out in a conditions event at Doncaster but has a mountain to climb on overall form. BP= 80/1 14) (7) 0513 One Cool Cat Aidan O’Brien 3-8-12 Jamie Spencer Has finally started to live up to his reputation on his latest two starting with victories in a Group Three at the Curragh and fast-finishing third in the Nunthorpe Stakes. However, he has had his share of problems this year and is worth taking on at this price. BP= 9/4 15) (12) 6916 Airwave Henry Candy 4-8-11 Kevin Darley Has never really lived up to the promise she showed during her juvenile and early three-year-old career and others appeal more. BP= 18/1 16) (18) 1310 Frizzante James Fanshawe 5-8-11 Johnny Murtagh Was in great form earlier this season, with the highlight of her career coming when she was successful in the July Cup at Newmarket. Disappointed behind Somnus last time at Deauville but should be more at home on this ground and a leading contender. BP= 15/2 17) (3) 0324 Lochridge Andrew Balding 5-8-11 Martin Dwyer Well beaten in lesser company this season and makes no appeal. BP= 66/1 18) (14) 7-11 Tante Rose Roger Charlton 4-8-11 Richard Hughes Improving filly who has impressed with both her wins this season in a Listed contest over the course and distance and in a Group Three at York. Could be the surprise package. BP= 12/1 19) (10) 5184 Tychy Stuart Williams 5-8-11 Paul Hanagan Her fourth in a handicap at Epsom last time leaves her with tons to find here. No chance. BP= 100/1 SUMMARY RATIO is taken to improve on John Hammond’s impressive record in this race. He comes here fresh and will be well suited by the drying conditions.
