BEST MATE & EDREDON BLEU AMONG STARS NEXT SUNDAY

At Hen & Terry's Charity Open Day - 19 September

Henrietta Knight and Terry Biddlecombe's Open Day takes place at West Lockinge Farm, Wantage on Sunday 19 September in aid of The Injured Jockeys Fund and the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance. It will be an opportunity for fans to see today's most famous racehorse - Triple Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, Best Mate - and last year's King George winner, Edredon Bleu; as well as an array of future equine stars.

"We are taking Best Mate's plans one step at a time and his first target this season will be a new race at Exeter on 19 November. Edredon Bleu will be aimed at the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter on 2 November, followed by the Peterborough Chase on 20 November," explains Henrietta.

Last year's event (on the same weekend in September) attracted over 4,000 people and raised over £14,000 for local and racing charities. This year's event will include: a parade of the horses, a chance to view the yard and all sorts of family attractions and trade stands. A late addition to the programme of events this year includes the Brightwells Charity Auction which will feature a wide variety of lots from a Best Mate Rocking Horse to a real live horse and pony. Explains Henrietta: "We also thought it would be different to auction a proper horse as well. When recently in Ireland, we purchased an unnamed 3 year old by Luso and he will be sold, preferably to stay in the yard, with any profits going to our event charities. As well as this racehorse, Brightwells will also be selling one of my home bred Connemara ponies and a pair of Call ducks from the farm. There may even be some geese as well, since the resident goose is currently sitting on a nest of eggs"!

The Open Day gates will open at 10.00 am and the parade will start at 11.00 am but the stables will not be open to the public until after the parade. Tickets are available on the gate only: Adults £10; Children under 12 £5 and under 5's admitted free. West Lockinge Farm is located off the A417 Wantage to Didcot road. Further details on the Open Day and the auction lots can be found at www.henandterry.com. There is also a public information line on 01793 710620.
