The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) has set the fields for this weekend's third and final wagering period of the Breeders' Cup Future Bet. By far, the most prohibitive morning line favourite in Period 3 is Halfbridled, a 2-1 choice in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Halfbridled, ridden by Julie Krone, was a dominating five-length winner of the August 30 Del Mar Debutante. Morning line odds were established by Mike Watchmaker of Daily Racing Form.

The Future Bet is a special wager that challenges fans to select in advance the winners of the October. 25 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships races to be held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. Races open for wagering this weekend are the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile, the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and the NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile. Wagering opens on Friday, Sept. 19, at 2:00 p.m. (ET) and closes at 9:00 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 21.

"We're optimistic about this third and final period of the Future Bet," said Ken Kirchner, NTRA senior vice president of product development. "The juvenile divisions are very popular among futures bettors, due to the wide-open nature and rapid improvement with 2-year-olds. Fans should continue to be able to get good value on probable Breeders' Cup runners. We hope to continue momentum from the last betting period, which saw a 38 percent increase from the first period."

Under Breeders' Cup Future Bet rules, each race will offer individual pari-mutuel wagering on 23 runners plus one field entry consisting of all horses not in the body of 23 for each respective race. All betting, available at outlets nationwide, will be win-only with a minimum wager amount of $2.00. At the conclusion of wagering on September 21, odds for all entries become final. No refunds are made on horses that do not ultimately compete in their designated races. Fans will wager on the Future Bet with the Juvenile being Race 9, the Juvenile Fillies as Race 10, the Filly & Mare Turf as Race 11 and the Mile as Race 12 in the
Future Bet pools.

The opening fields for Breeders' Cup Future Bet wagering on the Juvenile, Juvenile Fillies, Filly & Mare Turf and Mile appear below. The favorites for the four races are: Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile - Cuvee at 6-1; Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies - Halfbridled at 2-1; Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf - Voodoo Dancer at 6-1; and NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile - Special Ring at 8-1

* Friday, September 19 - Sunday, September 21:
Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile (Period 3)

In an astounding feat, every Widden Stud sire, with progeny old enough to race sired a stakes performer or a winner over the weekend.

Leading the charge were Geoff and Beryl White's boys, Shovhog -- through Listed Lindsay Park Guineas winner Harley Ma -- and Filante, via Group Three Kingston Town Stakes winner Ariante.

Ariante was the first leg of a winning treble for his sire over the weekend, with Detail later winning over 1000m in Perth for her sire while on Sunday when Zimstar was victorious over 1200m.

Danzig's leading shuttle sons Belong To Me and Anabaa each contributed with Group Two second placings at Belmont Park in America, with Tafaseel and Rouvres respectively.

Anabaa also sired two-year-old Anabaa Republic who was placed third over a mile in Group Three company at Longchamp in France, while at Moonee Valley, Belong To Me's four-year-old son Atin became his seventh Australian stakes performer from just 44 runners, when third over 2040m in the Listed JRA Cup.

Belong To Me's smart filly I'm Yours, a half sister to stakes winner Fragmentation, enhanced her stud value with an easy victory in good time over 1200m at Eagle Farm. She will be retired to stud to be mated with Snowland to achieve the same cross as her half sister, who is by Snippets.

While black type eluded him on Saturday, Helissio sired a two-year-old winner in Japan and won't have to wait long to strike again in Australia after his three-year-old daughter Free Friday was an encouraging fifth to Harley Ma in the Lindsay Park Guineas.

Although no longer on the Widden Roster, past sires Barathea, Marscay and Gold Fever also sired stakes performers on the weekend while Jade Robbery was represented by two winners over 1200m in Japan.

Dr Fong, whose first Australian progeny will race this season, sired fourth placegetter Miss Childrey in a Group Two at Doncaster on Thursday, the filly is already a Listed winner.

In 2002 - 2003, no less than 11 of Australia's 65 Group One races went the way of horses whose sire source was Widden Stud. Six different stallions shared this feat, four of these shuttle sires in Anabaa, Helissio, Belong To Me and Barathea, the former pair siring champions Yell and Helenus respectively. The historic stud appears to have found the key to selecting stallions suitable for Australian conditions.
