The internationalisation of horse racing has taken a giant leap forward with the
announcement of the Dubai International Racing Carnival 2004.

Massive prizemoney and generous incentives are associated with the two month
period, designed to entice leading owners and trainers from around the world to Dubai
for an unprecedented nine weeks of international competition.

Announcing the Dubai International Racing Carnival 2004, Mr Fin Powrie, Director of
Racing, Emirates Racing Association, said he was confident global horseracing would
only benefit from the concept.

“Horse racing is currently in the international era and every major racing centre around
the world currently has an event that attracts horses from abroad,” Mr Powrie said.

“HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum felt the time was now right to build on
the success of our Dubai World Cup meeting and expand on it by inviting trainers and
owners from around the world to enjoy racing in Dubai, not just for one meeting, but for
10.”

In the coming weeks leading trainers and owners throughout the world will be receiving
a package detailing every aspect of the Dubai International Racing Carnival 2004 and
outlining the benefits of taking part.

Total prizemoney during the two month period will be US$21,000,000 with an average
of over US$117,000 per race, outside of the Dubai World Cup meeting.

Of the 55 races to be held during the Dubai International Racing Carnival 2004, 16 are
run at either Listed or Group level, six of these on the turf and the remainder on the dirt.

In total there will be 20 races on the turf and 35 on the dirt.

“The programme of races on both surfaces offers alternatives for all types of horse at
the upper level and the prizemoney and starter’s rebates guarantee they will be
rewarded accordingly,” Mr Powrie continued.

A US$2,000 starter’s rebate will be paid to those horses that finish from fifth through to
10th in each event during this period, excluding Maidens and the three Conditions
events as well as each of the races on the Dubai World Cup programme.

The Dubai Racing Club will also cover the costs of transporting the horse to and from
Dubai and overseas trainers will be able to utilise the state-of-the-art facilities at the
International Stables adjacent to Nad Al Sheba racecourse at no cost.

These overseas-based trainers will also be eligible for a US$50,000 prize during the
Dubai International Racing Carnival 2004, the award decided on number of wins during
the nine week period and open only to those trainers based internationally.

Another feature of the Dubai International Racing Carnival 2004 is the introduction of
two races for fillies and mares, both on the turf, the US$130,000 Cape Verdi Stakes
over 1,600m and the Balanchine Stakes, over 1,777m.
