GODOLPHIN EVEN HAPPIER

Godolphin had a second Group One winner when Slickly was impressive in the Emirates Prix du Moulin de Longchamp over a mile today

The five-year-old Linamix horse made all to beat Banks Hill by three lengths in good style and in an excellent time of 1m 39s.

Frankie Dettori commented: “I hope I don’t wake up.”

GODOLPHIN REFLECT

Simon Crisford, the Godolphin Racing Manager, said about Fantastic Light’s victory over Galileo in the Ireland The Food Island Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday, September 8, 2001: “We are absolutely delighted - this was an unbelievable performance.

“It was the most tremendous race - visually it was really special to watch for everybody. The billing for two super giants to clash at Leopardstown fulfilled all expectations.

“I think both horses are great. Our horse, over a slightly shorter distance, got the better of it. Our tactics worked a treat. In the build-up to the race, everybody was saying that look you have got to sit behind Galileo and use that fifth-gear acceleration to pounce as late as possible.

“But Sheikh Maktoum and Sheikh Mohammed said no we are not going to do that. We are going to follow our pacemaker and hopefully set Galileo the task.

“Fantastic Light was very good as a three-year-old and last year he was the Emirates World Series Champion. He has continued to progress and develop. He has raced in five different countries on three different continents so he is the all-round superstar because he can travel, he can go anywhere and he is equally as effective over a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half, though probably a mile and quarter is probably his best trip.”

TRAINER LOOKS AHEAD

Saeed bin Suroor, Fantastic Light’s trainer, commented: “Fantastic Light was a little bit stiff for 24 hours after the King George and had a little break.

“Since we started training again I saw that the horse looked even better than before. He worked really well while the distance of a mile and quarter suited him much better than a mile and a half. He was in good form and I was confident and told friends that I thought it would be our day.

“There is plenty of time before the Breeders’ Cup Classic (Belmont Park, USA, October 27) and we will see how the horse comes back. When Fantastic Light was in Dubai his action on the dirt was good and I have some confidence about running in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

“I think he improved a lot since Ascot - he was a really fresh, happy and professional horse. After America we would look to run Fantastic Light in the Japan Cup (Tokyo, November 25) and the Hong Kong Cup ( Sha Tin, December 16) ”

HILLS PLEASED

Richard Hills, the rider of the Godolphin pacemakers Give The Slip, commented about the letting Fantastic Light go on his inside around the last bend: “It worked - that was the whole thing and was planned on Friday night.”
