GODOLPHIN HORSES HIT FORM The Gopdolphin web-site, www.godolphin.com, reported that Express Tour was the impressive winner of the Grade Two Jerome Handicap over a mile on dirt at Belmont Park, USA, on Saturday, September 22. The three-year-old Tour D'Or colt, ridden by John Velazquez, was a close second, battling for the lead, before taking up the running on the turn into the straight and drew away in the stretch to win by five and a half lengths in a time of 1m 34.57s. Express Tour, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, won the UAE Derby at Nad Al Sheba, Dubai, in March before finishing eighth in the Grade One Kentucky Derby and unplaced in the Grade Two Riva Ridge at Belmont Park on June 9 which came too quick. Given time to recover, Tom Albertrani, assistant trainer to Saeed bin Suroor, said that the colt had never looked better. Albertrani said: "He was ready to go today. He looked as good today as he did going into the Kentucky Derby. He probably doesn't travel well - it took him three months to get back to himself when we took him to Dubai, and it has been three months since the Riva Ridge. "I told John (Velazquez) to keep him clear and don't discourage him. When Express Tour turned for home, you could see he wasn't stopping. I always thought a mile would be his best distance. "There are no plans for him at the moment - we wanted to see what he could do today and we are very pleased as he was very impressive." John Velazquez commented: "He ran unbelievably. Tommy (Albertrani) told me to leave him alone and let him do his thing. He relaxed great down the backstretch. He had no trouble letting Hero's Tribute go. I just tried to stay out of his way. I was concerned we were going too fast, but those were the instructions." EQUERRY STILL UNBEATEN Godolphin’s Equerry made it four runs and four victories in the Group Three Prix du Prince d’Orange over ten furlongs on good to soft turf at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, September 23, 2001.
