ROTHMANS EXTEND SUPPORT OF THE ROTHMANS ROYALS ST. LEGER FESTIVAL

Doncaster Racecourse today announced that Rothmans (UK) will continue their involvement as sponsors of the St. Leger Festival up to 2004.

Rothmans involvement in racing started 10 years ago with the Rothmans Royals North South Challenge and, since 1999, Rothmans have supported all four days of the St. Leger Festival including the Rothmans Royals St. Leger.

In addition, Rothmans also sponsor three other Pattern Races in The Park Hill Stakes (Group 3) on Wednesday, The May Hill Stakes (Group 3) on the Thursday and, as from this year, The Champagne Stakes (Group 2) on the Friday.

"We are delighted to be continuing our association with the St. Leger Festival for a further three years," says Ian Muir, Managing Director, Rothmans (UK) Ltd. "We look forward to building on the partnership that we have developed with the team at Doncaster Racecourse to ensure that the Festival continues to grow as one of the top racing events in the country."

Commenting on this news, Doncaster's Chief Executive, John Sanderson said today: "Rothmans sponsorship and marketing support has been of tremendous benefit both to Doncaster and to Racing. They are highly professional in all that they do to support our race meeting and we are delighted that they have exercised their option to continue. This should enable us to stage the 2004 running of the world's oldest Classic with a guaranteed value of £500,000."

BROODMARE OF THE YEAR HEADING TO CASUAL LIES

Award-winning broodmare Silhouette has a date in New Zealand with Windsor Park Stud sire Casual Lies this year.

Silhouette, named Wellington Broodmare Of The Year, is the dam of the well-performed Kay Lane-trained gallopers, Figurehead and Figurante.

Figurehead, the winner of more than $NZ400,000 in his career to date, won the Gr III Waikato Guineas at Te Rapa, Listed Rough Habit Plate in Brisbane and the Listed Cranbourne Cup as well as finishing second in the Gr I Queensland Derby.

Figurante finished third in the Gr I Queensland Oaks last season and was also third in last month's $150,000 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes at Hastings. She is expected to line up next in this Saturday's $120,000 Glenmorgan Hawke's Bay Challenge Stakes at Hastings.

Casual Lies' progeny have made a flying start to the 2001-2002 racing season in Australia and he is currently the leading New Zealand-based sire on the general sires' table this season.

In the first month of the new season Casual Lies has been represented by four city winners in Australia. These are the Alan Jones-trained stakes winner Our Clinton, Lee Freedman-trained pair, Marlie and Anyone We Know and Terry Sullivan-trained Casual Remark.

In the 2000-2001 season Casual Lies was one of only four New Zealand-based sires to post progeny earnings in excess of $A1 million on the Australian general sires' table. The others were Zabeel, Kaapstad and Centaine.

His leading performers in Australia last season included Metropolitan (Gr I) winner Coco Cobanna and the group race winners Silent Impact and Matter Of Honour. He is also the sire of other exciting gallopers such as Mabuz, who won on both sides of the Tasman last season, and impressive Singapore debut winner Mira's Don't Lie.
