Going: Good to soft
3.45pm - £90,000 Sportsman Newspaper Hungerford Stakes, Group 2, 7f
1) 12-1 CARADAK Saeed bin Suroor 5-9-03 Frankie Dettori
A high-class seven-furlong/mile performer, winning twice at Group Three level and narrowly beaten by Court Masterpiece in the Group One Prix de la Foret at Longchamp in October. He will have come on for his comeback victory over course and distance in July and must have outstanding claims. He has won so far on a sound surface but should cope with good to soft. However, he is no value. BP= 10/11
2) 0105 ETLAALA Barry Hills 4-9-03 Richard Hills
Looked a future star as a juvenile when taking the Group Two Champagne Stakes at Doncaster but has never really fulfilled that promise. He has won three times, twice at Listed level, already this year but has also disappointed when pitched into Group company. Despite not getting the best of runs last time at Goodwood in the Group Two Betfair Cup, it is best to look elsewhere.
BP= 13/2
3) 1612 JEDBURGH John Dunlop 5-9-03b Ted Durcan
As good as ever this season, winning a Group Three prize in Ireland in July and running second to Iffraaj in the Group Two Betfair Cup at Goodwood on August 1. Seven furlongs is his trip and likely to give another god account but seems vulnerable to an improver. BP= 14/1
4) 3237 MAC LOVE Roger Charlton 5-9-03 Richard Hughes
His best-ever effort came when he was second to Rakti in the Group One Lockinge Stakes at Newbury last year, although he has not reached that level subsequently. Only narrowly denied by Suggestive in a Group Three event at Newmarket in July but his losing run stretches back almost two years and he is unlikely to be returning to winning ways here. BP= 25/1
5) 2-10 WELSH EMPEROR Tom Tate 7-9-03 Jamie Spencer
Best when allowed to dominate, as when gaining a Group Three victory over six furlongs at Newmarket last October, but also won from behind at Thirsk in April. Possibly better over six furlongs but could well get his own way out in front and capable of a bold show on rain-softened ground he loves. BP= 10/1
6) 2179 ROYAL POWER Mick Channon 3-9-00 Ryan Moore
Landed the Group Two German 2,000 Guineas in May but has struggled in Group One company since, latest when ninth of 11 runners behind Stormy River in the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly in July. His return to seven furlongs could suit and he acts on this sort of ground. Could suprise from a team in form. BP= 25/1
7) 2116 JEREMY Sir Michael Stoute 3-8-12 Michael Kinane
He has looked a progressive sort this year over seven furlongs, taking a Listed contest at Newmarket in May and following up in the Group Three Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot a month later, displaying a useful turn of foot. But he disappointed behind Iffraaj at Goodwood last time but that track may not have suited and better is expected today. BP= 7/2
8) -725 SIR XAAR Bryan Smart 3-8-12 Philip Robinson
Scored three times during a busy juvenile campaign but has not managed to get his head in front this term. He was unable to land a blow in Group Three company last time out and is likely to be flying too high here. BP= 33/1
SUMMARY
The first and second favourites could easily win but the clear value each-way is from Royal Power
