THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY
HAYDOCK PARK, SATURDAY, AUGUST 6, 2005
2:15pm Petros Rose of Lancaster Stakes (Group Three) 1m 2f 120yds GOING: GOOD TO FIRM for the best odds from British bookmakers and betting exchanges, go to www.BritOdds.com BP= best price at the time of writing 1) (3) -110 Notable Guest Sir Michael Stoute 4-9-03 Richard Hughes Progressive performer this season, with wins at Newmarket and in Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot. Badly drawn when disappointing in John Smith's Cup last time Seems pretty versatile as regards trip and well worth his chance in this company. BP= 5/1 2) (5) 4021 Welcome Stranger James Eustace 5-9-03 Robert Winston Seemed to benefit from step up in trip when scoring well in 10-furlong Listed contest last time out at Newbury. Had look fairly exposed at Listed level before that but he could make further improvement after finding his right distance. BP= 10/1 3) (4) 0338 Opening Ceremony Richard Fahey 6-9-00 Tony Hamilton Well beaten in handicap company this season and a mountain to climb on official ratings. BP= 66/1 4) (1) 0117 David Junior Brian Meehan 3-8-07 Richard Hills Looked very progressive with wins in Listed company at Newmarket and Sandown earlier this season. Probably unsuited by both drop back to a mile and the soft ground when seventh in the Sussex Stakes last time and holds a good chance back up in trip. Odds on and could have had a hard race last time so maybe worth opposing. BP= 8/11 5) (2) 117- Perfectperformance Saeed Bin Suroor 3-8-07 Kerrin McEvoy Very decent juvenile last year, winning Listed contest at Salisbury and Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot. Only disappointment was on soft ground in the Dewhurst behind Shamardal. Interesting contedner if fully wound out, but looks best watched on his first run in getting on for a year and over a longer trip. BP= 4/1 SUMMARY David Junior is sure to have plenty of supporters but the value bet is WELCOME STRANGER. For old articles (from 1st March 2000) go to the Newslink Archive |
