A massive Jackpot pool looks on the cards at York tomorrow, after big bet punters saw their lines go tumbling at the meeting today.

A rollover pool of £49,976 started the pool off this morning, and had reached £86,933 by the time this first leg got underway this afternoon.

"The quality and excitement on offer at the Ebor meeting always sees an extra injection of funds in the Jackpot and Placepot pools at York, as has been the case again this week," said Tote spokesman Jeremy Scott.

"Super Tassa, a 25/1 winner in the Yorkshire Oaks, and Mediterranean taking the Ebor at 16/1, left Jackpot punters with little to shout about this afternoon."

"However they will have another chance tomorrow when, with the rollover pool already touching £87,000, and Mozart a possible banker in the Nunthorpe Stakes, the Jackpot pool looks like breaking the £150,000 barrier."

A bumper number of 75 horses remain in the Rothmans Royals Champagne Stakes, which takes place at Doncaster on Friday, September 14, 2001, after the forfeit stage on Tuesday, August 21, 2001.

Master of Ballydoyle Aidan O'Brien remains the trainer with the highest number of entries - 15 in total. Heading O'Brien's entries is Johannesburg, currently favourite in most ante post lists for the 2002 2000 Guineas. The Hennessy colt is unbeaten in four starts, including the Group One Phoenix Stakes at Leopardstown on his latest outing.

O'Brien, who has yet to win the Rothmans Royals St Leger Stakes, could also be represented by Landseer, victorious in the Group Three Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and Rock Of Gibraltar who scored in the Group Three Railway Stakes at the Curragh on July 1. Castle Gandolfo, Creekview, Roar Of The Tiger and Stonemason have all won on their only start to date for Ballydoyle and have clear potential.

The Godolphin operation, triumphant in 2000 with Noverre, is also very well represented after the forfeit stage with 14 David Loder trained entries going forward. The most prominent amongst these are Meshaheer, unlucky when third behind Landseer in the Coventry Stakes before going on to triumph in the Group Three July Stakes at Newmarket and Naheef, who took the Group Three Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in eye catching fashion. Dulcet Spear also looks to be a progressive type having won a maiden at Southwell and a conditions event at Newbury on his only two starts while Dubai Status and Kriskova have both won on their sole outings.

Other significant entries include the Sir Michael Stoute trained Comfy who looked most promising when taking the Listed Acomb Stakes at York yesterday. Freemason Lodge could also be represented by King Of Happiness, who looked to a horse to follow following his win in a maiden at Doncaster on August and the Royal owned Right Approach, winner of a Newmarket conditions on his only outing. Stoute's third entry, the Mr Prospector colt Telesto runs in a maiden at York today, along with Aidan O'Brien's Della Francesca and Godolphin's Official Flame.

Luca Cumani's Grampian won a competitive Newmarket maiden earlier this month and looks to have scope while Middleham based Mark Johnston has said that he retains faith with Leo's Luckyman, the impressive winner of an Ayr maiden who was third to Naheef at Goodwood. John Gosden's Waldenburg, who created a very favourable impression when defeating subsequent winner Dubai Destination on his only start at Newbury, is also still engaged.
