Going: Good to Firm (good in places)
2.50pm £90,000 bet365 Lancashire Oaks, 1m 3f 200y
1) (1) 3301-3 PLAY ME Peter Chapple-Hyam 4-9-05 Adrian McCarthy
Lightly-raced four-year-old who has failed to make her mark in two attempts in Group company. She was well beaten behind Ouija Board on only attempt at a mile and a half in September last year but she shaped nicely on her seasonal debut and could find improvement. BP=25/1
2) (3) 13543-1 POWER GIRL NON RUNNER
3) (4) 1-(1)0 ALESSANDRIA Ed Dunlop 3-8-06 Martin Dwyer
Defeated Princess Nada on her only juvenile start and followed up with a 12-furlong Polytrack win at Kempton in May. She was found out in this grade at Royal Ascot last time and has something to prove now, but raced keenly that day and could take a hand if settling. BP=7/1
4) (6) 5-61 ALLEGRETTO Sir Michael Stoute 3-8-06 Ryan Moore
Ran creditably on her seasonal debut in the Listed Cheshire Oaks, making plenty of late headway from the rear to finish within five lengths of the winner Time On. Reported to be lame after and duly scored over this trip at Chepstow on her latest start but the big question is how good is the form as the second has been beaten in a maiden since. BP=6/1
5) (8) 1-25 GUILIA Rae Guest 3-8-06 Kevin Darley
Had Innocent Air over six lengths behind when close second to Scottish Stage in a 10-furlong Newbury Listed race and was not disgraced subsequently when fifth in the Vodafone Oaks at Epsom Downs. She has been given time to get over that effort and must have a big chance. BP=5/2
6) (7) 421-5 INNOCENT AIR John Gosden 3-8-06 Robert Havlin
Looked an exciting prospect when defeating colts in the Listed Washington Singer Stakes over seven furlongs at Newbury in August last year. She returned to the Berkshire course in May finishing fifth, under a 3lb penalty, to Scottish Stage. Hasn’t raced since and must prove her stamina but cannot be discounted. BP=5/1
7) (9) (5)-(3)(3)(1) LOCAL SPIRIT Clive Brittain 3-8-06 Joe Fanning
Sister to the brilliant Crimplene and an impressive winner of a weak Lingfield Polytrack 10-furlong maiden on July 1. Her trainer has been successful in Pattern company with this type of horse in the past but she must improve markedly and is not certain to stay. BP=66/1
8) (2) 1(2)3573 MARACHI BAND Eoghan O’Neill 3-8-06b Richard Mullen
Exposed filly who ran her best race when fifth in the Cheshire Oaks, but well-beaten in a soft-ground York handicap afterwards and a well-held third in a mile and a half Listed race in the French provinces last time. BP=50/1
9) (5) 022-11 PRINCESS NADA Luca Cumani 3-8-06 Nicky Mackay
Posted a couple of decent efforts in maidens last term when with Godolphin, including finishing second to Alessandria and the smart Maroussie’s Wings. Successful both starts for Luca Cumani this term, most recently when winning a 10-furlong Newbury Listed contest. Clearly a major player but this Barathea half-sister to Dubawi is not guaranteed to stay and is held on form lines by Guilia. BP=13/8
SUMMARY
Princes Nada is in great form for her new trainer but this is the best race she has contested, and, with stamina doubts thrown in, she does not represent good value. Allegretto’s Cheshire Oaks fifth was eye-catching and she may be a viable each-way option, but this week’s selection is GUILIA whose fifth in the Vodafone Oaks represents the best form on offer. The Rae Guest-trained filly is very lightly-raced and can be expected to improve on her Epsom effort.
GOOD LUCK
