THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY

MARKET RASEN, SATURDAY, JULY 17, 2004

3:35pm, £75,000 totescoop6 Summer Plate Handicap Chase 2m 4f, 5yo+, 0-145

GOING: GOOD, good to soft in places

1) 1-12 Polar Red Martin Pipe 7-11-12 Tom Scudamore
Former decent handicap hurdler who has taken well overall to fences. Looks vulnerable with his weight here.9lb better off with stable companion Gladieteur IV who beat him five lengths at Stratford last time.

BP = 11/1

2) 2-F1 Colca Canyon Jessica Harrington 7-11-12 Barry Geraghty
Irish raider who goes well on good ground. Trainer must always be respected with her British raiders.

BP = 5/1

3) 2F/1 Gladiateur IV Martin Pipe 10-11-10 Jamie Moore
Came back from a long absence to defeat Polar Red easily at Stratford last time. Clear chance, but this is more competitive.

BP = 10/1

4) 7-41 Royal Predica Martin Pipe 10-11-9t Richard Johnson
Very unpredictable but won well last time. Less appealing in this more competitive affair.

BP = 14/1

5) 1P6- Palua Emma Lavelle 7-11-09 Jimmy McCarthy
Has some very decent form at his best, but never the most reliable and overall win record is not great.

BP = 25/1

6) -111 Montreal Martin Pipe 7-11-07 Timmy Murphy
Look to be Martin Pipe's first string and has won three times already this season. However, his form has generally been lacking at this level in the past and he has been racing iver three miles..

BP = 8/1

7) /422 Roveretto Martin Pipe 9-11-04v Rodi Greene
Formerly decent novice for Mary Reveley and unlucky loser over this course and distance last time. A possible contender - he runs in snatches and will be coming from behind.

BP = 25/1

8) 000- Latalomne Noel Wilson 10-11-00 A C Coyle(5)
Formerly very decent two-miler but form tailed off last season. Fair runs on the Flat for current connections this season but best watched on return to fences.

BP = 14/1

9) 211- Kety Star Venetia Williams 6-10-12 Sam Thomas(3)
Looked progressive on final two starts last season. Not seen out since last December but could be one of the improving horses in the field. Likes to be up the pace but makes mistakes.

BP = 12/1

10) 1-21 Little Big Horse Sue Smith 8-10-09 Dominic Elsworth
Goes very well here but maybe a slightly lucky winner last time. Should run his race and one to consider.

BP = 16/1

11) 1832 Lik Wood Power Richard Guest 7-10-05 Andrew Thornton
Loves this ground and generally consistent this season. Has the right stable and jockey - needs the distance. Will come off the pace.

BP = 14/1

12) 9-11 Gimmick Jonjo O'Neill 10-10-02 Tony McCoy
Yet to win over fences but impressive on last two starts when winning over hurdles. Could well be a handicap certainly on his hurdles’ form but has only run once over fences and worth taking on.

BP = 9/2

13) 1-61 Glinger Nicky Richards 11-10-02 Brian Harding
Stays well and likes good ground but this is a tough test.

BP = 20/1

14) 6U-1 Wuxi Venture Richard Fahey 9-10-00 Richard McGrath
Been running on the Flat this season with credit and not totally out of it at a big price on his best form.

BP = 25/1

15) 2U1U Why The Long Face Richard Guest 7-10-00p Colin Bolger(5)
Not the greatest jumper in the world and overall form leaves him with plenty to find in any case.

BP = 33/1

16) 6/1- Gue Au Loup Brian Ellison 10-10-00 Graham Lee
Won here last but that was a very low grade contest and much more is required here.

BP = 40/1

SUMMARY
A very competitive contest. The value is with LIK WOOD POWER each way.
