AT THE RACES WINS TWO AWARDS....BROADCASTER RECOGNISED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE IRISH CHANNEL IN “BROADCAST DIGITAL CHANNEL AWARDS” AND “IRISH INDEPENDENT SPORT BETTING AWARDS”
At The Races, the UK and Ireland’s most watched dedicated horseracing channel, is delighted to announce that it was named ‘Best Sports Service’ for the second year running at last Thursday night's Broadcast Digital Channel Awards ceremony, held at London’s Hilton Hotel. Broadcast is the country’s pre-eminent weekly trade publication for the UK television industry and the awards are the most prestigious in digital broadcasting.
On a phenomenal night of success for ATR which coincided with the Channel’s first live racing transmission from Britain’s newest racecourse, Ffos Las, At The Races was also named ‘Best Broadcaster’ at the inaugural Irish Independent Sport Betting Awards in Dublin. Presenter Gary O’Brien was on hand in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin, to receive the award at a gala dinner attended in number by the Irish sports and betting industries.
The Broadcast Digital Channel Awards success follows ATR’s win in the same category in 2008 and previous success in 2006. Judges assessing performance this year in the highly competitive sports category called At The Races an “elegant, focused cross-platform sports service delivered with passion and creativity.” They also praised the Channel’s business performance within a “targeted and niche” sector noting particularly the £1.4 million profit recorded in 2008 net of payments to racecourse partners. At The Races recently announced that such payments now total over £11 million since launch in June 2004.
In retaining its Broadcast Digital Channel Awards ‘Best Sports Service’ crown At The Races beat shortlisted entrants Chelsea TV, BBC Beijing Olympics/Paralympics Interactive coverage and Setanta Sports News. In Dublin, ATR fended off nominated Irish broadcasting competition from RTE, TV3 and Setanta Sports.
Judges in Ireland had this to say: “At The Races ensures not only that racing itself receives comprehensive coverage but that each broadcast is supported by expert opinion tailored to the needs of the betting public. All in all it’s a winning combination.”
ATR’s success again brought racing significant profile and prominence amongst mainstream television and media industry audiences. Other channel winners recognised at the 2009 Broadcast event included BBC 3, BBC 4, Sky News, CBBC and FX.
Matthew Imi, Chief Executive, At The Races said:
“We were delighted to be dual award winners last Thursday night and I’d like to thank all members of the At The Races team, both in front of and behind the camera, for their considerable contribution to the achievements for which the company has been recognised.
Each award is significant for different reasons but both acknowledge the quality of the service At The Races consistently produces both on air and online, the excellent relationship we have established with our audience and commercial partners as well as the financial contribution we make back to our racecourse partners specifically and the racing industry more generally.”
