THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN every Saturday Royal Ascot, Saturday, June 23, 2007 3.05pm £55,000 HARDWICKE STAKES (GROUP TWO) 1m 4f GOING: GOOD for the best odds go to www.BritOdds.com BP= the best price at the time of writing 1)(5) 250-21 SCORPION Aidan O’Brien IRE 5-9-05 Michael Kinane St Leger winner in 2005 who came right back to his best with an emphatic win in the Group One Coronation Cup over the distance three weeks ago. Must defy a 5lb penalty and Maraahel but is the class horse in the field and will relish any ease in the ground. However, he is little value. BP= 11/10 2)(8) 313-52 ADMIRAL’S CRUISE Brian Meehan 5-9-00 Jimmy Fortune Progressed last term to win a Group Three over an extended mile and five furlongs at Newbury. Respectable second to Sixties Icon at Newmarket in May leaves him with a bit to find here. BP= 9/1 3)(3) 602403 AKAREM Karl Burke 6-9-00v1 Neil Callan Successful in a course and distance Listed contest last term but has been thoroughly exposed in Group company since. Difficult to make a case for. BP= 50/1 4)(7) (2)-(2)(5)12 BLUE BAJAN Andy Turnell 5-9-00 Michael Hills Has improved markedly while racing over shorter trips in the past 12 months. Almost turned over the odds-on Maraahel over 10 furlongs at Chester last time. Is 5lb worse off with that rival here. BP= 12/1 5)(6) -36142 DIAMOND QUEST Andrew Balding 6-9-00 Hugh Bowman Landed a Grade One handicap off a low weight over two miles in South Africa last season. Ran consistently in Dubai earlier this year, collecting a mile handicap from five starts at Nad Al Sheba. Faces a tough task. BP= 25/1 6)(1) 21113- LINAS SELECTION Mark Johnston NON-RUNNER 7)(4) 65-113 MARAAHEL Sir Michael Stoute 6-9-00b Richard Hills Seeking back-to-back wins in this race and appears as good as ever this season. Kept on well when a length and three quarters third to Scorpion in the Coronation Cup and has a 5lb pull with that rival. Major claims but he is not the most trustworthy sort and offers little value. BP= 5/2 8) (1) (1)(3)(4)232 MIGHTY Jane Chapple-Hyam 4-9-00 John Egan Progressed from a Polytrack maiden win in January to almost clinch a Sandown Group Three last month. Just held by Maraahel over the distance at Newbury in April in receipt of 6lb. Needs to improve again but he is a tough sort and is good value.. BP= 14/1 SUMMARY It is worth opposing the top two in the market and going with MIGHTY who offers very good value.
