ROYAL ASCOT 2007
RACENEWS RACECOURSE SERVICE
SECOND DAY, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20

RACE 1: THE JERSEY STAKES
WIN QUOTES

TARIQ STORMS TO ROYAL ASCOT GLORY

Tariq produced a dazzling turn of foot to land the Jersey Stakes in the hands of Jimmy Fortune, who was registering his second success of the meeting.

The three-year-old Kyllachy colt, third in last year’s Coventry Stakes at the Royal Meeting, was held up through much of the race before Fortune gave him the office over a furlong out.

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam’s charge picked up in grand style and cut down the favourite US Ranger to score by two-and-a-half lengths.

Chapple-Hyam said: “He ran very well in the Coventry last year but came back injured from the race.

“I probably rushed him back this spring to get him to the French Guineas but that race made a man of him. After it he started to improve and his work has been really good.

“US Ranger was the one we had to beat today. When Jimmy shuffled across I just thought ‘Come through’ and he did it perfectly.

“Tariq is in plenty of races. Unfortunately, the Prix Jean Prat closes today and I didn’t put him in, thinking he wants seven furlongs.

“But he looked like he’ll get a mile - we might go for the Sussex Stakes (Goodwood -August 1).”

Chapple-Hyam added: “Jimmy and I are great mates. He rode my first ever Royal Ascot winner when I didn’t have any of these grey hairs! He is a top-class jockey.”

Jimmy Fortune commented: “It all went to plan. My main concern with this horse was just to get him relaxed, to get him settled early, and then ride a race from there.

"They went a good gallop and he relaxed for most of the race, just once or twice he took hold of me. All in all, he relaxed pretty well. When this horse does relax, he's good.

"I think he'll get a mile - he wasn't stopping at the line."

Chapple-Hyam also outlined the latest with his Derby hero Authorized.

He said: “He goes for the Eclipse next and I’m delighted with him. He did his first piece (of work) back yesterday and it went well.”

Race 1 - Jersey Stakes - Placed Quotes

ROUGET PHILOSOPHICAL IN DEFEAT

French trainer Jean-Claude Rouget was in philosophical mood after 6/5 favourite Us Ranger was beaten two and a half lengths in the Group Three Jersey Stakes, the opening race on day two of Royal Ascot 2007.

Rouget said of the second: “I am a bit disappointed.

“I hoped to win a race at Royal Ascot and we decided on this race as it looked easier than the St James’s Palace Stakes yesterday.

“The pace was good and he came there to win but the winner has really improved and did very well to come from a long way back.

“I think in the future we will be looking at races over seven furlongs or shorter for him. He won’t go back up in trip to a mile.

“In time, I think he will be a six-furlong horse for the second half of this season and next season.

“I don’t know where he will go next - we will look at Deauville maybe.

“I think he is a horse that will improve with more racing.”

JOCKEYS’ VIEWS ON GROUND

Most jockeys riding in the first race felt that the ground was similar to yesterday.

Richard Quinn commented: “It’s good, fast ground.”

Mick Kinane said: “It’s good ground.”

Liam Keniry said: “It’s still on the fast side.”

Ted Durcan said: “It’s a bit easier than yesterday.”

Race 2 - Windsor Forest Stakes - Winning Quotes

NANNINA WINS AT ROYAL ASCOT FOR SECOND SUCCESSIVE YEAR

Last year’s Coronation Stakes heroine Nannina made a winning return to Royal Ascot when scoring by three lengths from Sabana Perdida in the Group Two Windsor Forest Stakes.

Trainer John Gosden said: “She got bumped two out and Jimmy (Fortune) had to kick-on as he couldn’t disappoint her by pulling her back.

“I think she is back to her best - the ground was too soft for her at Epsom last time.

“Good or good to firm ground is ideal for her but she doesn’t want it soft. It just doesn’t suit her action. Only a very few horses go on all types of ground.

“The Nassau Stakes at Goodwood has always been a big target for her this year - she was third behind Ouija Board and Alexander Goldrun in it last year.

“She could well go to the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket next and there is the Pretty Polly in Ireland, although that is only 10 days away and might come too soon.

“She is not an over big filly and is improving all the time. She is not over raced and could finish the year in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, although that’s a long way off Royal Ascot in June!

“She likes it here. We did consider running her in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes today, but thought it was probably best to avoid having a hard race against the colts at this time of the season - it could have knocked the stuffing out of her.

“My main concerns today were that the pace might be inadequate and that she is better over 10 furlongs. I don’t want to get caught out in false run races with her as happened in the Falmouth last year.

“She is now a Group winner at two, three and four - not many horses achieve that.”

Jimmy Fortune added: “I was worried the pace might be too slow and so that is why I kicked on two out.

“She shows her best form at this course and is a proper Group One filly.

“It was a great training performance - I only had to steer her!”

Fortune is now the leading jockey at Royal Ascot 2007 and is heading the London Clubs International Trophy with three winners and looking ahead to the rest of the week commented: “I don’t expect anything.

“I’m just glad to have had three winners so far.”

SECOND RACE PLACED QUOTES
WINDSOR FOREST STAKES (GROUP 2)

DE ROUALLE SECOND ON FIRST VISIT TO ASCOT

Satwa Queen, trainer Jean de Roualle’s first runner in England, ran an excellent race to finish three-lengths second to Nannina in the Windsor Forest Stakes.

“I’m delighted and the winner won impressively,” said de Roualle. “We beat Nannina in the Prix de l’Opera last year but I have no complaints and that race will be the aim again. She may have a prep run at Deauville and would prefer softer ground and a longer trip.”

David Metcalfe, racing manager to the filly’s owner Steven Lamprell, said: “We came here instead of the La Coupe because her owner is English and wanted to come to Ascot. We really needed another two feet of rain last night so she has run very well on that ground.”

Alain de Royer Dupre, who saddled 50/1 chance Sabana Perdida to finish third, said: “Today’s ground must have been good or faster today for her to have run so well and finish third. I’m not sure where we’ll go now, but she’ll follow the ground.”

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy said of the fifth Echelon: “There was a steady pace and they just quickened away from her. She wants a stronger pace.”

Rider Jamie Spencer said of the sixth-placed Flashy Wings: “She ran disappointingly.”

THIRD RACE WINNING QUOTES
PRINCE OF WALES’S STAKES (GROUP 1)

GRAND PLAN FOR MANDURO

Manduro, who finished third in last season’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, ran out an impressive length and a quarter winner of this year’s Group One event when beating Dylan Thomas in impressive fashion under Stephane Pasquier.

Trainer Andre Fabre is now considering an ambitious plan that could involve a step back to a mile for the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville before going for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe over a mile and a half and possibly the Breeders’ Cup Classic, for which he received a 16/1 quote from Coral, over 10 furlongs on dirt.

“It took me just one and a half years to learn how to train this horse! He’s not improved, we’ve just got to know him better - he needs a lot of space in his races and his action is an aesthetic pleasure to watch,” said Fabre. “Pace is not a problem with him as he’s a top-class miler as well. Now we might think about a mile and a half. Although we put him in the King George that is a remote possibility and one of the plans would be to go for the Jacques Le Marois, the Arc and the Breeders’ Cup on dirt - it’s some plan but why not?”

Owner Baron Georg von Ullmann added: “We came here optimistic with a certain expectation because we knew we had a good horse. He was very unlucky last year and if three or four of his rides had gone differently it might have been different. Pasquier fits very well with the horse, it is like a marriage that is made in heaven - he has ridden the horse four times and won every time, They did it in great style today, the jockey only needed two or three cracks of the whip.

“These Monsun horses don’t have the Danehill type of speed. They need to see daylight two or three furlongs out and then not be disturbed and Pasquier understands that very well.

“If I’m asked about plans I’d be arrogant and say I’d like to win everything. We’ll put our heads down and find a programme that is solvable.”

Pasquier added: “In the first part of the race I had to be careful because he can pull a bit but the pace was strong enough for my horse behind the leaders. Then he gave me a great kick at two furlongs out. I think he’ll stay a mile and a half - why not? It’s my first start here and my first win so I’m very happy.”

RACE 3: THE PRINCE OF WALES’S STAKES
PLACE QUOTES

STOUTE AND O’BRIEN HAPPY WITH FRAME FINISHERS

Dylan Thomas reversed the form with his Tattersalls Gold Cup conqueror Notnowcato but both could only play second fiddle to Manduro in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.

Dylan Thomas was beaten a length-and-a-quarter while Notnowcato trailed in a further four lengths adrift into third spot.

Aidan O’Brien, trainer of Dylan Thomas, said: “I am delighted with him. He has run very well.”

Notnowcato’s trainer Sir Michael Stoute said: “We’re delighted with him. He is a very consistent horse and has run a big race.

“Ideally, he would have liked a bit more juice. The ground at The Curragh (scene of his Tattersalls Gold Cup triumph) was better for him.

“He has got plenty of good entries but we will see how he comes out of this.”

Brian Meehan, trainer of fourth-placed Red Rocks, said: “I’m a little disappointed. The first thing Frankie said was ‘not enough pace’.

“I think we will go on to the Eclipse. As a three-year-old we gave him gaps between his races and that suited him then.

“But he is an older horse now with a lot of confidence and we need to get on with him. If he does well this year the owner will keep him in training.”

Boylesports have Dylan Thomas as a 7-1 shot for the King George back at Ascot on July 28.

Race 3 - Prince of Wales’s Stakes - Other News

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD FOR SIR PERCY

Last year’s Derby winner Sir Percy ran a disappointing race in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.

After making the pace, the four-year-old dropped away tamely in the closing stages to eventually finish last of the six runners.

Sir Percy’s jockey Martin Dwyer said: “I don’t know what went wrong today. He ran a very lacklustre race and was disappointing.

“The change of tactics didn’t make any difference - there was not going to be a strong pace over 10 furlongs in any case.

“It will be back to the drawing board with him now.”

RACE 4: THE ROYAL HUNT CUP (HERITAGE HANDICAP)
WIN QUOTES

GOSDEN GLEE AT HUNT CUP GLORY

John Gosden was all smiles after Royal Oath surged to a four-length victory from Flipando in the Royal Hunt Cup.

Jockey Jimmy Fortune burst up the middle of the track to run away with this most competitive of mile handicaps - and land a 339-1 hat-trick on the day.

Newmarket-based trainer Gosden said: “I’ve been second and placed in this before - so I am pleased to win it.

“He is a horse that we’ve always liked a lot and it has been a long, steady road with him.

“He ran well in the Spring Cup at Newbury but then he just didn’t please me at Newmarket - he wasn’t happy going into The Dip and came out a little jarred. But this race was always the plan and we didn’t waiver from it.

“He is a lovely horse and has really showed his quality today. His handicapping days are over - we will now look at the black-type races for him.

“We are planning to go to Keeneland in the fall and attack one of those mile races. He is a proper four-year-old for the job.

“We’ve never been in a rush with this horse. His owner said to give him all the time he wants and this shows the benefits of doing that.

“It is a very nice afternoon for Jimmy - a nice treble! He is a superb professional.

“He is a very good jockey, who thinks about it a lot. He is a solid sound jockey and horseman - and always been.

“He is the same person if things are going good or bad. There are no silly ups and no silly downs.”

Jimmy Fortune added: “He’s still a big baby and still learning. I think the blinkers have made a big difference but the horse is growing up all the time.

“I think he is a Group horse. A treble at Royal Ascot is fantastic.”

Race 4 - Royal Hunt Cup - Placed Quotes

PLACED HUNT CUP HORSES PLEASE CONNECTIONS

The trainers of the second, third and fourth-placed horses all expressed their satisfaction with the performances of their horses in the Royal Hunt Cup.

Flipando was beaten four lengths in second and his trainer David Barron said: “I think we met a handicap blot there. Why did it have to be today?!

“This horse has had a tremendous season and has not done a great deal wrong.

“Obviously, we are limited to where we can run a horse like this.

“We will look at the John Smith’s Cup for him now. He can go over a mile or 10 furlongs.

“The ground was too fast for our other runner Zero Tolerance.

“At least we’ve earned the expenses to get home!”

A further half-length back in third was the eight-year-old Vortex and his trainer Gay Kelleway was delighted.

She said: “What a great horse. He had top weight, a bad draw and hit the front too soon and still ran a tremendous race.

“He will now go for the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket, a race he won two years ago and Johnny (Murtagh) said he could also run well in the totesport International back here next month.

“I have three runners here this week and I actually thought Vortex was our weakest chance.

“Fajr goes in the Buckingham Palace Handicap and he’s my nap of the week.

“Protector runs in the Wokingham. I bought him in Dubai and think he could be a decent sprinter. Damien Oliver rides him.

“Protector worked with Vortex over six furlongs at Kempton and killed him.”

The fourth Supaseus raced alone on the far side and his trainer Hughie Morrison said: “He ran well. John (Egan, jockey) said he was as close as he ever was at the finish.

“It just didn’t work out from his draw.”

Race 5 - Queen Mary Stakes - Winning Quotes

GUTSY ELLETELLE LANDS QUEEN MARY

A gutsy performance from 20/1 shot Elletelle saw the Ger Lyons-trained filly record a half-length victory over 4/1 favourite Starlit Sands. The scene in the winner’s enclosure was not unlike that seen at Cheltenham as as the owners, the Jesse Club Syndicate, celebrated their success.

Elletelle’s trainer Ger Lyons was not present, leaving his brother Shane to travel with the filly.

Shane Lyons said: “Our horses have run well all season and we have done very well with our runners in England this season. Why fix what isn’t broke?

“I knew from the moment she came out of the stalls that she would go close.

“She is very tough. Last time out at Leopardstown she stumbled early on and then really had to battle to win. I think that changed her from a girl to a lady.

“The best we had won before today was a Group Three so it’s great to win a Group Two. We came here today really in the hope we would get some black type.

“We had one runner last year so now have one winner from two runners at Royal Ascot! It’s great for the owners, the Jesse Club Syndicate who come from Ennis, Co Clare.

“We will always travel to find the right races as there are not enough suitable races in Ireland. I think Ger will be shocked and laid out on the couch at home!

Johnny Murtagh added: “She was always travelling like a winner.

“She should have no problems getting six furlongs and maybe she could go to York.

“She is very tough and Ger always liked her from day one.”

FIFTH RACE PLACED QUOTES
QUEEN MARY STAKES (GROUP 2)

SANDS FINISHES HALF LENGTH FROM GROUP 2 SUCCESS

Trainer Sir Mark Prescott was philosophical after Kirsten Rausing’s home-bred Starlit Sands was beaten half a length into second in the G2 Queen Mary Stakes.

“She ran a great race but you’re always disappointed to get beaten,” said Prescott. “The jockey on the winner always thought he’d get there and I think the other filly just outstayed us - I wish they’d run this at Catterick or Brighton!”

The Loan Express belied her 66/1 starting price to finish an excellent third, gaining valuable black type in the process.

“She was second to Warsaw and then a bit unlucky at Naas last time when she got knocked about and probably should have been second or third, we were always playing catch up,” said trainer Tommy Stack’s son Fozzie.

“She will always have a value now and I’m not sure where we’ll go. We might try her over six at some stage and perhaps we could go for the Lowther.”

Jeremy Noseda, trainer of fourth-placed Francesca D’Gorgio, said: “I’m delighted with that - that was a little more like it.

“We will get her home and take a view as to whether we go back to maiden company or be bold and head to the Cherry Hinton. She wants six furlongs.”

SIXTH RACE WINNING QUOTES
SANDRINGHAM HANDICAP (LISTED)

QUINN BACK WITH A WINNER

Richard Quinn who returned from retirement last month had his 26th Royal Ascot victory when Barshiba landed the concluding Sandringham Handicap for trainer David Elsworth.

“This is even more special because it’s an extra one that I didn’t expect to have,” said Quinn, before heading off to ride at Kempton’s evening meeting. “She’s a nice filly, was relaxed coming into the race and we got behind the right horses. She gets to the front and think she’s done enough.”

Elsworth added: “It’s wonderful to see Richard win again and I think a lot of people got a lot of pleasure at seeing him back. John Egan is a great jockey and a real stalwart but we just thought we’d try a change of hands today and Richard is fresh with his tail up and got lucky.

“She was slightly disappointing in the Guineas but she’s got considerable talent and this fillies’ 95-105 was ideal for her. Her level of form is very good, she ran a hell of a race in the Nell Gwyn but doesn’t keep straight. We may have a tilt at some more black type now.”

RACE 6: THE SANDRINGHAM HANDICAP
PLACE QUOTES

Hannon and Gosden positive after defeat

Trainer Richard Hannon was upbeat after Selinka just got touched off in the Sandringham Handicap.

The Selkirk filly showed a significant improvement on her previous outing when she was last in the 1000 Guineas.

Hannon said: “She has run a very good race on ground that she would not particularly like.

“We are very happy with her and I thought it was all over for a moment.”

Will Edmeades, racing advisor to the owner Robert Barnett, said: “We will look at the Prix Chloe, a Group 3 over a mile-and-one furlong at Maisons Laffitte on June 28.”

John Gosden, trainer of third-placed Costume, said: “She has run a blinder giving 13lb to the winner.

“I would have liked there to have been a stronger pace in the race. But she is Listed placed and we now want to find a regular Listed race for her off level weights and make a full stakes winner - she is from the last crop of Danehill.

“It has been a good day.”

HIGH-CLASS ENTRY FOR THE KING GEORGE AT ASCOT

The £750,000 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, run at Ascot on Saturday, July 28, has received a wonderful entry of 37, with the very best middle-distance horses from Europe and further afield engaged in the famous mile and a half event.

Of the 37 entries, 16 are trained in Ireland, two in France, one in Germany and one in the USA.

Authorized was the brilliant winner of the Vodafone Derby at Epsom Downs on June 2 by five lengths and the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained colt could attempt to become the first horse since Galileo in 2001 to complete the Epsom Downs/Ascot double.

Other horses to have completed this prestigious double in the same year are Lammtarra (1995), Generous (1991), Nashwan (1989), Reference Point (1987), Shergar (1981), Troy (1979), The Minstrel (1977), Grundy (1975), Mill Reef (1971), Nijinsky (1970), Pinza (1953) and Tulyar (1952).

The 2006 Vodafone Derby hero, Sir Percy, is also entered and he could bid to follow in the footsteps of Royal Palace (1968) and Teenoso (1984) who both won at Ascot the year after their Derby success.

Irish-trained horses have won the King George on nine occasions, most recently with Azamour in 2005 when the race was run at Newbury during Ascot’s redevelopment, and this year’s entry of 16 from the Emerald Isle includes last year’s leading juvenile Teofilo, trained by Jim Bolger, who has yet to make it to the racecourse this season.
The other 15 Irish entries are all trained by Aidan O’Brien and include the Epsom Derby runner-up Eagle Mountain, the triple Group One winner Dylan Thomas, who runs today at Royal Ascot, recent Coronation Cup scorer Scorpion as well as last year’s Gold Cup hero Yeats. An intriguing entry from the Ballydoyle team is George Washington, the brilliant miler and winner of Ascot’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in 2006, who finished well when fourth in yesterday’s Queen Anne Stakes over a mile at Royal Ascot. The Danehill colt, who was put back in training this year after fertility problems at stud, has only tried beyond a mile once and that was on a dirt surface.

Both of the entries from France boast high-class form. Andre Fabre, who trained last year’s King George hero Hurricane Run, has today’s Royal Ascot runner Manduro, the impressive winner of the Group One Prix d’Ispahan at Longchamp on May 20. Mandesha, owned by Princess Zahra Aga Khan and trained by Alain de Royer Dupre, was France’s leading three-year-old filly last season with three Group One wins and made a winning return to action in the Group Two Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud on May 30.

Germany’s entry is Prince Flori, trained by Sascha Smrczek. The four-year-old caused a 40/1 shock when winning Germany’s most prestigious race, the Group One Grosser Preis von Baden, last season and recently returned to action by winning the Group Two Grosser Mercedes-Benz Preis at Baden-Baden on May 20.

US trainer Kenny McPeek performed a magnificent training feat in 2004 when he sent out 33/1 shot Hard Buck to finish second to Doyen in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. This year McPeek, who is based at Magdalena Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, has entered the lightly-raced Drilling For Oil, a four-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway who won the Grade Three Louisville Handicap at Churchill Downs on May 26 - his first stakes win.

The Maktoum family’s Godolphin operation, successful with Swain (1997 and 1998), Daylami (1999) and Doyen (2004) has two entries in Cherry Mix, sixth last year, and Laverock, a Group One winner at Longchamp and San Siro last season but yet to get on the score sheet in the current campaign.

Sir Michael Stoute has trained three King George winners in Shergar (1981), Opera House (1993) and Golan (2002). This year, Stoute has entered Maraahel, winner of the 2006 Hardwicke Stakes at the Royal Meeting and Ask, who was very impressive on his seasonal debut when defeating Scorpion in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester last month.

Other interesting contenders include last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf hero Red Rocks, one of the most popular horses in training, the high-class stayer Sergeant Cecil as well as last year’s Vodafone Derby sixth and the 2006 St Leger victor Sixties Icon.

The Mick Channon-trained Youmzain, a Group One winner in Germany last season is also engaged as are Lucarno and Salford Mill, who both ran very respectably when fourth and sixth respectively behind Authorized in the Derby.

Mark Johnston’s runners can never be dismissed and he has made entries for the unexposed Boscobel, impressive when landing the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton last time out, the improving handicapper Eradicate, last season’s Queen’s Vase and Princess Of Wales’s Stakes victor Soapy Danger and Linas Selection, successful over the course and distance in the King George V Handicap at the 2006 Royal Meeting.

British Punters Reap Benefit of Global Trifecta

British punters experienced the benefits of the new Global Trifecta initiative when yesterday’s St James's Palace Stakes produced a pool of £29,039 and a dividend of £395.80.

That was a massive £23,099 more than last year's total of £5,940. That meant good news for winning units in the UK because if the pool consisted of only UK money - £9,000 - the dividend would have been just £243.50.

Paul Petrie, totepool spokesman, commented: “British punters are reaping the benefit of the Global Trifecta initiative with bigger pools and bigger dividends. Not only was the pool bigger than last year, but the contribution by British punters also increased, which suggests that the Global bet appeals to them.”

The Gold Cup will be the subject of the Global Trifecta at Royal Ascot tomorrow and, with a number of French runners, it is hoped that turnover will be even greater.

Petrie added: “We usually find that races with more runners naturally produce greater turnover and the fact that there are two French runners should also help. Hopefully, the trend where the British punter is better off will continue.”

FRANKIE DETTORI HRA ENQUIRY CONFIRMED

The Horseracing Regulatory Authority (HRA) has confirmed that, following Frankie Dettori’s referral to the HRA yesterday, the Disciplinary Panel hearing will take place on Thursday, July 5.

Dettori was referred to the HRA after the Ascot stewards believed that, when winning the Queen Anne Stakes on Ramonti, he used his whip with excessive force and frequency and did not give his mount time to respond.

Explaining the decision, HRA spokesman Paul Struthers said: “Frankie is already suspended for other riding offences from June 24 to the July 1 and his agent has confirmed that he is booked to go on holiday during that period.

“We already have a Discplinary Panel scheduled for every Thursday throughout the year and, as we saw no good reason not to convene the hearing on a Thursday, we have therefore agreed that July 5 is the most suitable date. Any suspension he is given by the Disciplinary Panel will commence on Friday, July 13.”

MUSCLE TWEAK PUTS REBEL ON EASY LIST

Geoff Huffer this morning outlined the details of how his stable star Cockney Rebel was after yesterday’s St James’s Palace Stakes.

The dual 2000 Guineas winner could only finish fifth behind Excellent Art in the hands of Olivier Peslier.

Huffer said: “Cockney Rebel has just pulled a muscle in his hind quarters. He has done it during the race.

“He came there to win and then hung otherwise he would have won. He must have felt it (the muscle) and then went left, favouring (that side).

“He will be seven days on the easy list. It is nothing serious. He is still on course for the Prix Jacques Le Marois.”

The Group 1 for three-year-olds and upwards will be staged at Deauville on August 12.

Huffer will be back at Royal Ascot tomorrow for a shot at the Britannia Handicap with Heroes.

Huffer said: “All is well with him. He is in good shape. I’m not saying he will win but I think he will run well. The (fast) ground will be fine for him.”

PREVIEW: CORONATION STAKES

FINSCEAL BEO HEADS BRILLIANT CORONATION LINE-UP

Finsceal Beo, trained by Jim Bolger in Ireland, will be sent in search of a fourth Group One triumph when she tackles the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.

The brilliant Mr Greeley filly already has two 1,000 Guineas - English and Irish - victories to her name as well as her Prix Marcel Boussac win last season. But on Friday she will have to do battle with her narrow French1,000 Guineas conqueror Darjina, who is unbeaten for handler Alain de Royer-Dupre.

Jim Bolger said today: “Finsceal Beo is very well and I am very happy with her. I would be hoping to make it to double digits with her in terms of Group One wins at some stage in the future.

“She has won three already so she is one third of the way there. She is very sound and her owners like to travel.

“She had a pipe-opener on Tuesday and ships tomorrow (Thursday). We would prefer good ground but we can’t do anything about it.”

Indeed, the fillies that made up the 1-2-3 at Longchamp will all be at Royal Ascot as Rahiyah - the third home - heads the English challenge for the prestigious Group One.

German raider Mi Emma will seek to enhance the profile of the German 1,000 Guineas form. The Andreas Wohler-trained filly won that race in April by nine lengths to complete a hat-trick.

The third runner from the mainland continent is Missvinski, who was second in the mile Group Three Prix De La Grotte last time out in April for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget.

Arch Swing will bid to return to the form that saw her finish second in the English 1,000 Guineas. The John Oxx-trained filly found the ground too soft in the Irish version and failed to make the frame.

Majestic Roi is a progressive filly, who came second in the Prix Sandringham on her last start earlier this month. The likely quick ground should suit Mick Channon’s filly as it will the Michael Jarvis-trained Yaqeen, sixth in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Indian Ink, from the Richard Hannon yard, was one place in front of Yaqeen at HQ but looks to have a little to find with some of the principals.

Aidan O’Brien brings Oaks fifth Cherry Hinton significantly back in trip as he tries to find a winning opportunity for the only maiden in the field.

Nell Gwyn winner Scarlet Runner takes her chance, while Silk Blossom vies to give trainer Barry Hills a second winner of the Coronation Stakes inside three renewals following the victory of Maids Causeway in 2005.

The 13-strong field is completed by Puggy, who has not won in five starts after a debut victory at Salisbury last Augus t.
