Folkestone Racecourse is staging its first ever "Builders' Raceday" on Friday, June 24. Kent is a huge growth area in the construction industry with a large amount of building, construction and DIY companies based in the area or with satellite branches in the county. Sponsors for the card include Jewsons, the builders' merchants, and Bosch.

Ladies attending the meeting will be able to enter the "Loveliest Racegoer" competition, where the prize will be four VIP badges to Folkestone's Ladies' Evening on Thursday, August 4.

The day has been promoted by Professional Builder magazine, which has also distributed 11,000 flyers. A further 2,000 offering half-price entry to the racecourse have been distributed via local builders merchants trade counters and DIY stores and a further 4,000 sent by direct mail to building company executives.

Emma Santer, Marketing Executive for Folkestone Racecourse, said: "I have always wanted to hold a "Builders' Raceday", knowing that many of them follow racing and like a punt on the horses.

"With the meeting being on a Friday afternoon, I think it will be a great success! We have already sold many advanced raceday badges and there has been a big take up on the half-price badge offer."

Anyone wearing a 'Bob The Builder' costume will receive a raceday badge to Folkestone on July 21 for a special Evening meeting with the Rollin'Clones playing live after racing.

Builders' Day will feature various entertainment for racegoers including a jazz band, big table football, trade stands and giveaways. Facilities at the recently refurbished course include the very popular Lookout Restaurant, which should be booked in advance, plus several bars and eating areas including the Paddock Café serving hot and cold meals throughout the day.

The first race is at 2.30pm and the gates open at 12.30 pm.
