THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY

2.00pm York, Saturday, June 14, 2003 - Cadogan Silver Salver Handicap, 1m 1f

BP= best odds offered by Coral Eurobet, Tote, William Hill and Ladbrokes.

GOING: GOOD TO FIRM

1) (10) 7/04 Albuhera Mark Johnston 5-9-11 Keith Dalgleish
Missed last season and has had two runs in conditions races at the end of March, running well for a long way in the most recent of them. An interesting contender under top weight in this handicap as the stable is now in better form.

BP = 11/1 Coral

2) (6) 30-0 Muchea Mick Channon 9-9-05 Ted Durcan
Veteran performer who often runs well in this kind of event. Should be sharper for his reappearance at Goodwood - his first run for seven months - but still vulnerable to more progressive types. Still to prove himself over nine furlongs.

BP = 20/1 Ladbrokes

3) (2) 0522 Cat's Whiskers Mick Easterby 4-9-02 Dale Gibson
In good form of late, including when second in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar last time. Still open to further improvement but there is no great value to be had and he is coming back a furlong in trip.

BP = 3/1 Tote and William Hill

4) (3) 2-00 My Raggedy Man David Nicholls 4-9-02 Adrian Nicholls
Had some good form in England last season but both starts in Dubai over the winter were disappointing. Gone to a good yard that is going well and shouldn't be completely dismissed back on turf.

BP = 33/1 Tote

5) (13)-220 Athenian David Morris 4-9-00 Neil Callan
Generally a consistent sort, although ran poorly last time in the Zetland Gold Cup. Probably a bit too high in the handicap.

BP = 16/1 Coral & Ladbrokes

6) (11) -131 Crow Wood James Given 4-8-11 Michael Fenton
Has won two competitive handicaps at Doncaster and Haydock already this season. Thirs in the Zetaland Gold Cup and then made all to win at Haydock, both over 10 furlongs. Looks the type that his trainer often does so well with, but the price today is a bit short.

BP = 9/2 Ladbrokes & William Hill

7) (4) 1492 Tedstale Tim Easterby 5-8-10b Kevin Darley
Heavy ground has been against him on a couple of ocassions this season and he has a good chance on his best form. Likely to appreciate the extra furlong and is good value.

BP = 7/1 Ladbrokes & Tote

8) (8) 5080 Gallant Boy David Evans 4-8-08t
In excellent form on the all-weather over the winter but efforts back on turf have been a bit hit and miss. Coming down the handicap and will have some sort of chance.

BP = 33/1 William Hill

9) (5) 00-0 Stretton James Bethell 5-8-07 Keiren Fallon
Ran well in competitive handicap company for much of last season, although hs form tailed off towards the end of last season. Not seen out since finishing last in a Listed event in France back in February but Keiren Fallon is an interesting booking and he could be nicely handicapped on his best form. Lack of a recent run though is a worry and so is his shorts odds.

BP = 9/1 Coral Eurobet

10) (1) 3043 Mister Sweets Michael Chapman 4-8-05 Darryll Holland
Has been running well over shorter distances this season and does not appear to have been wanting a step up in trip.

BP = 16/1 Ladbrokes, Tote & William Hill

11) (12) -006 Krugerrand Willie Musson 4-8-05 Richard Mullen
Well-bred individual but his overall record is not great and doubtful that he is up to winning this.

BP = 22/1 Tote

12) (9) 0072 Captain Venti John Quinn 4-8-02 Jimmy Quinn
Has looked to have crying out for a step up in trip this season. This is by far his toughest task to date but he looks progressive and could be thereabouts but others have better overall form..

BP = 7/1 Tote

13) (7) 0125 Oldenway Richard Fahey 4-7-13 Paul Hanagan
His stable is to be feared in this kind of event. He would have a chance if on song, although others do appear to have stronger claims. Yet to find his trip.

BP = 10/1 Coral & Tote

SUMMARY

TEDSTALE each way is the value in this open handicap.

GOOD LUCK
