AINTREE RACECOURSE DELIGHT AS YOULNEVERWALKALONE RETURNS HOME

Aintree Racecourse today expressed its delight that leading 2003 Martell Cognac Grand National contender, Youlneverwalkalone, has returned home to Ireland after treatment at the University of Liverpool's Leahurst Equine Hospital on the Wirral. Youlneverwalkalone had not fallen, but had pulled up lame, on the first circuit following the 12th fence on the famous National course.

Aintree has invested heavily in veterinary facilities throughout the last few years and is delighted that this investment was instrumental in the treatment of Youllneverwalkalone at the racecourse.

The portable X-ray machine identified that the injury the horse sustained was worse than could be picked up by an external examination. Consequently, the racecourse veterinary team put the leg into an immobilising splint before the horse was taken in the horse ambulance to be treated at Leahurst.

Charles Barnett, Managing Director of Aintree Racecourse, commented, "We are very happy that the detailed planning put into place to deal with equine injuries proved a great success in this case and it seems that Youlneverwalkalone has made a remarkable recovery. There was a lot of concern over his injury and the racecourse has received numerous requests for information. We're thrilled at the successful outcome of this case."

The treatment of racehorses is a priority for the industry and Aintree has been working closely with Leahurst for many years. This has enabled the racecourse to provide some of the best equine facilities in the country.

Chris Proudman, senior lecturer in surgery at Leahurst Equine Hospital and one of the veterinary team working at Aintree said, "Undoubtedly, the facilities in place at Aintree enabled the vets to treat the horse effectively at the racecourse before transferring him safely to the equine hospital. Without these facilities, the final treatment may not have been a success, which resulted in the safe return of Youlneverwalkalone."

Frank Berry, Racing Manager for JP McManus, said of the horse's return, "We're thrilled to have him home, back at the Martinstown Stud and are grateful for the first class treatment which both Aintree and Leahurst provided for Youlneverwalkalone."

BIGGEST SCOOP6 BETTING DAY OF THE YEAR EXPECTED TOMORROW

The Tote are bracing themselves for the biggest Scoop6 betting day of the year tomorrow when rollovers totalling a little under £600,000 travel to York and Sandown.

When the pools open tomorrow £400,283 will be lining the Win fund while £191,987 sits in the Bonus Prize fund.

"With both the Win and the Bonus Prize fund rollover pools having already reached a tempting level we're expecting to see more money pumped into the pools tomorrow than at any other time this year, as the 'rollout for a rollover' punters join the quest for the loot," said Tote spokesman Jeremy Scott.

"The pools are looking big already, but come 2pm tomorrow we should be looking at a Win fund of around £550,000 with Bonus Prize fund total in the region of a quarter of a million pounds."

Tomorrows Scoop6 legs are:
leg 1 - 2.00 York
leg 2 - 2.15 Sandown
leg 3 - 2.35 York
leg 4 - 3.10 York
leg 5 - 3.25 Sandown
leg 6 - 3.45 York

YESTERDAY'S JOCKEY CLUB ENQUIRIES

Disciplinary Panel: Lord Halifax (Chairman), William Bethell and Alastair Macdonald-Buchanan

David Nolan

The Disciplinary Panel of the Jockey Club, on 12th June 2003, held an enquiry to establish whether or not David Nolan, the rider of RISK FREE, had committed a breach of Rule 153(iii) of the Rules of Racing, in the light of Jockey Club Instruction H9 headed 'Use of the Whip', concerning his use of the whip when riding in the goracing.co.uk Classified Stakes at Catterick on 31st May 2003. This matter was referred to the Stewards of the Jockey Club by the Catterick Stewards following their enquiry of the same day because Nolan had been suspended from riding for 29 days for mis-use of the Whip within the previous twelve months.

The Panel considered evidence from Nolan. It also viewed video recordings of the race.

The Panel accepted Nolan's admission that he was guilty of improper riding and in breach of Jockey Club Instruction H9 headed 'Use of the Whip' in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. The Panel also found that he had used his whip with excessive force.

Taking into account that Nolan had been suspended for 29 days since 16th June 2002 and had also previously been suspended for 16 days under the 'totting-up' procedure on 30th January 2002, it suspended him from riding for 25 days, of which 6 will be deferred until 19th December 2003.

The suspension will commence on Friday 20th June to Monday 7th July on days on which flat racing is scheduled to take place and on 22nd July when he was instructed to attend the British Racing School to receive instruction regarding his use of the whip.

John Best

The Disciplinary Panel of the Jockey Club, on 12th June 2003, held an enquiry into a report that SHARP AS CROESUS, trained by John Best, refused to enter the starting stalls and was withdrawn from the Bet Direct on 0800 329393 Fillies' Handicap Stakes at Southwell on 22nd April 2003. The matter was referred to the Stewards of the Jockey Club by the Southwell Stewards following their enquiry of the same date, this being the third occasion that SHARP AS CROESUS had been reported within the previous 12 months.

Having considered the evidence, and taking account of the filly's previous behaviour including when withdrawn at Lingfield on 31st October and 19th November, the Panel declared that no further entries would be accepted for the filly for flat races started from stalls run under the Rules of Racing run before 22nd October 2003.
