NEW SPONSOR FOR NUNTHORPE

Bookmakers Victor Chandler are to take over sponsorship of the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes at York's August meeting.

The sponsorship will begin with this year's renewal on August 24. The total prize fund for the race will be £175,000, an increase of £20,000 from last year.

John Smith, Clerk of the Course at York stated: "The Nunthorpe is always a great race and the generous support of Victor Chandler will help retain the elite status of this prestigious race."

Keith Dalgleish, a seventeen-year-old apprentice based with Mark Johnston, has scooped the Cocked Hat Northern Apprentice of the Month for May.

Dalgleish rode five winners last month and his total for the season now stands at 11 winners.

The Cock O'The North Award for senior jockeys is currently headed by Kevin Darley, who has ridden 44 winners so far this season and currently heads the jockeys table.
