QUINN RECEIVES EIGHT-DAY BAN

Jockey Richard Quinn has received an eight-day ban for using the whip with excessive force aboard Shibboleth in last week's St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. The suspension will run from Friday, June 30 through to Wednesday, July 5. The remaining two days of the suspension will be deffered until September 29.

There was happier news for Quinn however when the Jockey club quashed his £1,000 fine for not parading in the correct order on Beat Hollow in the Vodafone Derby.

EXCELLENT PRIZE MONEY AND FREE ICE CREAMS ON OFFER AT GOODWOOD ON SUNDAY

Over £100,000 in total prize money is offered at Goodwood's six-race card on Sunday, July 2, 2000, plus appearance money of £300 per runner, so owners and trainers have every incentive for running their horses.

Rod Fabricius, Goodwood's Clerk of the Course and General Manager, said: "Sunday racing has proved very popular with our customers and we have continued to upgrade both the quality and prize money at both our Sunday fixtures."
This first Goodwood Sunday fixture of the year - the second is on August 27 - is a Family Day which means that children receive lots of treats, including a FREE ICE CREAM and a FREE GIFT, as well as enjoying FREE ADMISSION.
Four races on the card are worth at least £15,000-added, including three competitive handicaps.
The racing highlight of the day is the Listed £30,000-added "ON THE HOUSE" STAKES (3.45pm) over a mile. The inaugural running of this contest, named after the winner of the 1982 Sussex Stakes, was won last season by Ramooz, trained by Ben Hanbury, who went on to taste further success later in the year when landing the Group Three Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh.

There should be clues for the £85,000 Vodafone Stewards' Cup, one of Britain's biggest betting races which is run on Saturday, August 5, in the £20,000-added VODAFONE STEWARDS' CUP TRIAL HANDICAP (2.40pm), run over the same course and distance, which has attracted 39 entries.
Goodwood is pleased to announce that there are 106 entries for this year's Vodafone Stewards' Cup, which is a new record following 104 last year, 83 lin 1999, 84 in 1997 and 81 in both 1996 and 1995. The entries, 15 of whom are in the trial, will be available on Wednesday.

Runners in the £20,000-added MAIL ON SUNDAY MILE HANDICAP (QUALIFIER), which has 23 entries, will be eligible to go forward for the final of this series at Ascot on September 24.
The £15,000-added TRIUMVIRATE RATED HANDICAP (4.55pm) over a mile and quarter looks sure to be a competitive affair, with 21 entries, and was won last year by the Marcus Tregoning-trained Moutahddee who subsequently triumphed in the valuable Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy at Sandown and then ran third behind Greek Dance in the Group Three Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock.
Racing gets underway at 2.10pm with the £6,000-added RON EDE'S FREE BUS PASS MAIDEN FILLIES STAKES over a mile and half for three-year-old fillies. Two-year-olds will be on show in the fourth race of the day, the £6,000-added EUROPEAN BREEDERS FUND CAPITAL GOLD MAIDEN STAKES (4.20pm), over six furlongs, with 26 entries.

Fresh ground, which has not been used since the May meeting, will be raced on at the lower bend and for the last three furlongs of the straight course.

Goodwood's Family Days are always very popular, providing a great day out for all the family. Children will be able to choose one of five FREE GIFTS - a glove puppet, baseball cap, compass keyring, swim safe activity pack or pencil case - as well as gaining a FREE ICE CREAM. Gary the Musical Clown, a robotic show, a magician, a caricaturist and face-painters will be on hand to heighten the fun for children throughout the day.

There is also a FREE PLAYGROUND, with rides, roundabouts and bouncy castle in the Public Enclosure, plus a FREE CRECHE for babies and toddlers in the Gordon Enclosure.
For the adults, the Stane Street Jazz Band, Henderson's West Indian Steel Band and the Southern FM Roadshow will be on hand to provide musical entertainment. Jockeys will also be available to sign FREE AUTOGRAPHS.
As usual at all Goodwood fixtures (except in the Richmond Enclosure during Festival Week), accompanied children under 17 will receive FREE admission. Admission prices for adults are £18 for the Richmond Enclosure, £11 for the Gordon Enclosure and £5 for the Public Enclosure. FREE PARKING is available and the racecourse gates open at 11.30am.

COURT GOES FOR IRISH DERBY

Holding Court has been supplemented for Sunday's Budweiser Irish Derby at a cost of IR£85,000.

Trainer Michael Jarvis had been concerned that the ground may not be soft enough for his charge, as the Hernando colt's success in the Emirates Prix du Jockey-Club came on heavy ground

Jarvis stated: "We are supplementing Holding court and they have assured us that they will be keeping the ground safe."

A match now looks set between Holding Court and Sinndar winner of the Vodafone Derby.

ASMUSSEN MAY RIDE MONTJEU

Jockey Cash Asmussen may be reunited with the brilliant Montjeu for Sunday's Group One Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Michael Kinane, who usually partners the Sadler's Wells colt, will be claimed by Aidan O'Brien for one of his three possible runners in the Budweiser Irish Derby.

Asmussen rode Montjeu to victory last season in both the French and Irish Derby, before losing the ride when he was claimed to ride Dream Well in the Arc.

SHIVA A POSSIBLE FOR ECLIPSE

Henry Cecil's mare Shiva, who was forced to miss Royal Ascot due to unsuitably firm ground, may now run in the Group One Coral Eclipse at Sandown on July 8.

The Master of Warren Place stated: "Shiva runs in the Eclipse provided the ground is fine. She's a mature mare and it's difficult to say whether we'll get some decent ground for her, but I would rather go to Sandown than send her abroad."

Shiva was last seen out when easily landing the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown on May 30, on her favoured soft ground. Sponsors Coral go 3/1 about Shiva landing the Eclipse.
