KING'S BEST TO RESUME WORK
King's Best, who was withdrawn from Saturday's Vodafone Derby at rhe eleventh hour after a muscle injury, will resume work at the end of the week after tests gave him the all-clear.
Joe Mercer, racing manager to owner Saaed Suhail stated: "The results of the tests were satisfactory and he will return to work on Friday. I would think that Royal Ascot would be ruled out for him."
PIPE TO HAVE RUNNER AT ROYAL ASCOT
Champion National Hunt trainer Martin Pipe will have a runner at Royal Ascot when Far Cry lines up for the Ascot Gold Cup on June 22.
Pipe stated: "Far Cry is on target for the Ascot Gold Cup and we have booked Kevin Darley to ride. The horse is very well and we are all looking forward to the race."
Last sason on the flat, Far Cry won the Northumberland Plate and the Doncaster Cup.
The Pharly gelding was last seen out when fifth behind Monsignor in the Royal and Sun Alliance Hudle at the Cheltenham festival.
HOLDING COURT FOR THE CURRAGH
Holding Court, so impressive when winning the Prix du Jockey-Club on May 4, is an "intended runner" for the Budweiser Irish Derby at the Curragh on July 2, setting up a possible clash with Vodafone Derby victor Sinndar.
The Hernando colt will have to be supplemented for the Irish classic at a cost of Ir£85,000.
Trainer Michael Jarvis stated: "We really wanted to have a look at the Irish Derby. It takes a bit of thinking about, spending Ir£85,000. You want to know that your horse has come out of his race well and how the opposition is going to shake up."
Grand Finale, trained by Dermot Weld and the only horse to beat Sinndar is also a possibility.
GUEST TO BE RESTED
Barathea Guest, eighth in the Vodafone Derby on Saturday, will now be rested and aimed towards an Autumn campaign.
Tim Corby, racing manager to owner John Guest stated: "He's come back fine and in good form. He will have a good rest now. He has had four hard races-three Group 1s and a Group 3. Then we will look at the opportunities in Europe for him."
EGYPTBAND LANDS FRENCH OAKS
Egyptband trained by Criquette Head, impressively landed yesterday's Prix de Diane Hermes (French Oaks) at Chantilly.
The filly, a daughter of Dixieland Band, won by three lengths from Volvoreta under Olivier Doleuze.
The British challengers finished down the field, with Tanzilla in twelfth and Arduine thirteenth.
CASTLE MANE TRAGICALLY KILLED
Champion hunter chaser Castle Mane has died in a tragic accident.
The eight-year-old son of Carlingford Castle was found lying in a field on Saturday morning, unable to get up, and is believed to have broken his neck. Vets spent five hours trying to save the gelding.
Trainer Caroline Bailey stated: "The vets did everything they could. They gave him every chance, but as the hours went by we knew we were losing the battle. His owner, Charles Dixey, was here and discussed every possibility with the vets, but there was nothing we could do."
Castle Mane was to be sent to a professional trainer for next season.
A post mortem is due to be carried out.
