Wetherby’s 2008/09 season over Jumps comes to an exciting conclusion with the ‘Party in the Paddock’ Meeting on Thursday evening (June 4), when racing begins at 6-00 p.m.

The meeting has a ‘tropical’ theme and racegoers can sip cocktails on the Paddock Terrace or in the Caribbean Marquee and listen to the sounds of the Paradise Steel Band.

PeopleCo Worldwide Ltd, the Harrogate-based IT recruitment specialists, return to Wetherby to support the feature race of the evening, a Handicap Chase over two and three-quarter miles. The main supporting races are The Jabra Novices’ Chase (a contest for stayers over three miles and one furlong) and The ‘Wedding Show’ Here On 6th September Handicap Hurdle (two miles and three-quarters). The former race is supported by GN Netcom, regular sponsors of racing at Wetherby.

Going into this final day of the season, Howard Johnson is set to be the course’s leading trainer once again, while his stable jockey, Denis O’Regan has also clinched the top spot in the riders’ category at the course. Campbell Gillies is in pole position to be the course’s leading Conditional rider.

The Tom Halliday Memorial Trophy – presented to the top Conditional rider of the campaign on the three Yorkshire racecourses which stage racing over Jumps – Catterick, Doncaster and Wetherby – is set to go right down to the wire, with James Reveley, Tjade Collier, Fearghal Davis and Campbell Gillies all in with a chance of winning.
