NATAGORA SILENCES DOUBTERS WITH ALL THE WAY GUINEAS TRIUMPH

Any fears that the speedy Natagora would not stay the mile test of the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas were firmly rebuffed when the statuesque grey filly made all to claim victory.

The Divine Light French-bred, who first advertised her talents to a British audience when winning the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes at The Natwest Rowley Mile last September, was sent off the 11/4 favourite and was the second French Group winner of the day following Getaway’s triumph in the stanjamesuk.com Jockey Club Stakes.

Her trainer Pascal Bary, whose Six Perfections was second to Russian Rhythm in the 1000 Guineas in 2003, said: “I was confident that she would get the mile after she ran so well over seven furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte. Christophe and I would have preferred to have had two or three horses in front of us but she started to race and she had to do the job. Not only does she have speed but she is brave.”

Commenting on his previous disappointment in the race, when Six Perfections veered wide of the pack, the trainer said: “Six Perfections went on to win the Jacques le Marois and the Breeders’ Cup so we forgot about that. This is a different race.”

Asked when Natagora might be seen again in the UK, he said: “She will tell me. She’s in the Irish 2,000 Guineas but we will wait and see. She’s done everything right so far and I don’t want to do anything wrong.”

Bloodstock agent Patrick Barbe, who bought the filly for her owner Stefan Friborg and was representing him in his absence, said: “Her owner is at home recovering from surgery. He listened to the race live and is so pleased. This is wonderful.”

FANSHAWE, BOLGER AND GOSDEN HAPPY

The connections of Spacious, Saoirse Abu and Infallible - second, third and fourth respectively in the Group One £375,000 stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas all expressed their satisfaction after the 195th running of the fillies’ Classic.

James Fanshawe, who trained the half-length runner-up Spacious, said: “She ran very well. Jamie (Spencer) said she just needed a stronger pace.

“She will not be going up in trip and is not a mile and a half filly.

“We will just see how she comes out of this before making any plans. It was always the plan to come straight here.”

A further half-length back in third was Irish raider Saoirse Abu, whose trainer Jim Bolger also saddled the sixth home Lush Lashes.

Bolger commented: “I am very pleased with both of them.

“Kevin (Manning) came back and said with another furlong Saoirse Abu might have got there and Kerrin McEvoy said Lush Lashes could have done with further. Did I run them over the wrong trip? They just needed a bit more real estate!”

Speaking about yesterday’s stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas runner-up New Approach, Bolger added: “He is home now and ate up last night. He had some light exercise this morning. It’s onwards and upwards.”

John Gosden, trainer of the fourth filly home Infallible, said: “She ran great.

“It is unfortunate both Guineas have been run up the stands’ side whereas in the other races they have come down the middle. It becomes messy when they are all towards the rail.

“Infallible got a bump at half-way which set her alight and she pulled a bit hard, which she paid the price for.

“The winner deserved to win, she had the best form.

“Raven’s Pass (fourth in the stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas) has come back well from yesterday and will go for the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, while Infallible will head for the Coronation Stakes at the same meeting.”

I WOULD HAVE WON SAYS RICHARD HUGHES

Richard Hughes, who finished fifth on Nahoodh, said he would have won the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas if he had been able to get a run in the closing stages.

The jockey said: “I was really happy with my draw (6) and I was happy after going a furlong and a half.

“I had a great position at half-way, travelling well, and just when I was going to move up a place or two about the three-furlong pole she hit a flat spot. I had to let her come good - some people might have thought I was cruising.

“Then at the two-furlong pole, she came good again. I wanted her to bring me rather than the other way around after her race at Newbury. All the others have come left.

“Then I just ran up the ass of the winner. Nine times out of 10, they would have come off the rail when they heard the crowd. I was banking on them coming off the rail and could not go around them as they were six deep.

“I felt I would have won. Nahoodh can win at Ascot and make amends.”

“LIVING MY DREAM”

Christophe Lemaire, the winning jockey on Natagora, said: “I wanted to get a good position without too much effort.

“She gave all she had and is a fantastic filly.

“There are days when everything goes right and today was our day so we are all very lucky.

“I am very lucky on this track. For me, it was a dream to come to the Rowley Mile and see Pennekamp (1995) win the 2000 Guineas and today I am living my dream.

“For me, it is really something special to win on Natagora today.

“Every time I come here to Newmarket, I have a good horse and everything goes right for me, making good decisions and having the right plan.

“I hope this will continue for a long time.”

VERY HOT

Frankie Dettori, who finished 13th in the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas, commented: “When she saw the stalls, Laureldean Gale just boiled over and got very hot - the race was done. She did the same in France at the end of last season.”

Richard Hills jockey of eighth Muthabara said “She gave me a great ride and moved really well. She just got caught for toe at the end.”

Richard Kingscote on 11th Max One Two Three said ” She just didn’t help herself in the preliminaries. But she saw out the mile.”

William Buick jockey of 14th Spinning Lucy said “She ia a sprinter a didn’t see out the trip.”

Ted Durcan on board the last Francesca d’Gorgio, who caused trouble in the stalls, reported that “She just didn’t get home.”

Natagora
A brilliant juvenile with an abundance of speed, Natagora was picked up for a bargain 30,000 euros as a yearling by Patrick Barbe, acting on behalf of Stefan Friborg, at the Deauville Arqana sale in October 2006. The grey filly is by the high-class Japanese sprinter Divine Light out of the 10-furlong winner Reinamixa. Having finished second on her racecourse debut at Saint-Cloud in May, 2007, Natagora went on to score four straight wins at around five or five and a half furlongs, including the Group Two Prix Robert Papin in which she defeated the speedy colts Magritte and Strike The Deal. Natagora was stepped up to six furlongs for the Group One Darley Prix Morny at Deauville on August 19, but was no match for the classy Irish colt MyBoycharlie, as she finished two lengths second to that rival. Sent to Newmarket for her final juvenile outing, Natagora defeated the best English fillies over six furlongs in the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes. Sent to the lead, she was always holding the neck runner-up Fleeting Spirit. Many observers expressed doubts about such a speedy individual having the reserves of stamina to last a mile but Natagora banished some of those fears on her three-year-old bow at Maisons-Laffitte on April 14. Racing over seven furlongs for the first time and encountering heavy going, Natagora posted a classy victory as she pulled a length and a half clear of the smart Modern Look. He made all to win the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas today.

Stefan Friborg
Swedish-born and Brazilian-based Stefan Friborg is Director General of Angola Drilling Company Lda, an oil and gas service company that provides a range of specialised related services and products to the petroleum industry. His best horse to date is Natagora, winner of five races last season including the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. Friborg had seven horses running in his colours in France in 2007, with Natagora being the only winner. The exploits of his star filly placed him 55th in the French owner standings. His racing manager is Patrick Barbe who purchased Natagora at the Arqana Sale in 2006. Friborg and Barbe broke the sale record when buying a more than three-parts sister to Natagora for 330,000 euros at the same sale in 2007. The sibling is by Agnes Kamikaze, a three-parts brother to Natagora’s sire Divine Light. Unfortunately, Friborg is currently recovering from an operation and is unable to attend to travel from Brazil.

Pascal Bary FR
Although based at Chantilly in France, Newmarket is certainly not unfamiliar territory for trainer Pascal Bary, who became assistant to Sir Mark Prescott in 1975. Bary, who was born on April 4, 1953, in the Paris suburb of Neuilly, where his father became mayor, went on to assist the great Francois Boutin in France for five years before taking out his own training licence in 1981. Helped by the patronage of major owners such as the Niarchos Family, Prince Khalid Abdulla and Lady Chryss O’Reilly, Bary has developed a formidable track record. Bary, whose relaxations include gardening, sailing, rugby, skiing and tennis, has won the French Derby five times (1994 Celtic Arms, 1996 Ragmar, 1998 Dream Well, 2002 Sulamani and 2004 Blue Canari). Dream Well also won the 1998 Irish Derby while he won the 1991 Breeders’ Cup Turf with Miss Alleged and the Breeders’ Cup Mile twice with Domedriver (2002) and Six Perfections (2003). The brilliant Six Perfections was unlucky in defeat behind Russian Rhythm in the 2003 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and went on to prove herself one of the best milers in the world with a victory in the Prix Jacques le Marois to complement her Breeders’ Cup triumph. An excellent domestic season in 2002, including a win for Six Perfections in the Prix Marcel Boussac, saw Bary finish just 200,000 euro behind Andre Fabre in the French trainers’ table. In the 2006 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, Bary’s elation at Price Tag’s victory was short-lived as the filly was disqualified and placed third. Zambezi Sun’s victory in the Group One Grand Prix de Paris was Bary’s biggest domestic success of the 2007 campaign, while Natagora landed a famous triumph at Newmarket in the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes. Stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas Record: 2003-2 Six Perfections; 2008-WON NATAGORA

Christophe Lemaire
Christophe-Patrice Lemaire was born on May 20, 1979 and is the son of legendary jump jockey Patrice Lemaire. He joined the pony club as a child and gained an amateur licence at 16. He started working part-time for trainer Michel Laborde, while continuing his studies. Hired as an apprentice by Andre Fabre at 18, he turned professional two years later. Lamaire spent the winter of 1999/2000 racing for the Godolphin stable in Dubai, and left Andre Fabre's completely in July, 2001, becoming freelance. Patrick Biancone provided rides for Lemaire in US, before he partnered 30 winners in India in late 2002,spending the following winter racing in Japan. His first Group winner was in August, 2002, when he partnered Cut Quartz to victory in the Prix de Kergorlay at Deauville. Lemaire now rides for a variety of trainers in France, but particularly associated with Pascal Bary and Alain de Royer-Dupre. NEWMARKET PLEASED

Stephen Wallis, Managing Director of Newmarket Racecourses, said: “As yesterday, we have seen top-quality racing and I feel the two days have been a huge success on several levels.

“I would like to thank Stan James UK for their magnificent and continued support of the Guineas meeting. It has been a pleasure to work with them and I am very grateful for their help in taking this meeting forward.

“Added to Henrythenavigator’s tremendous victory in the stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas yesterday, we have seen two Group 1 performances this afternoon with both Natagora and Getaway most impressive.

“It has been a wonderful two days with new heroes and champions being created at The Home of Racing. ”

Michael Prosser, Newmarket’s Director Of Racing, added: “The racing has been outstanding. We’ve seen two exceptionally high-class renewals of the respective stanjamesuk.com Guineas.

“The supporting card on both days has been terrific and the Palace House Stakes was a great spectacle, while in Getaway we have seen a potential middle-distance star.”

PROPONENT BACK TO WINNING WAYS AFTER COLIC SURGERY

Proponent looked to have a bright future when winning the Racing South Africa Houghton Conditions Stakes at The Natwest Rowley Mile as a two-year-old and may now have Ascot on his agenda after a successful return to Newmarket.

Trainer Roger Charlton said of his four-year-old gelding: “Things didn’t work out for him last year one way or another. He had colic surgery in the winter and that set him back but things are getting back on track. He ran well at Newbury and he got the trip really well today and he may be able to step up, maybe to something at Ascot.

Adding that Proponent could go for either the Wolferton or the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at the Royal Meeting, he continued: “The money’s in the handicaps. You can run in a Listed race and pick up £15,000 and if you run in a handicap you could pick or £30,000 or £40,000.”

Winning jockey Steve Drowne said: “He was a pretty smart two-year-old and he just lost his way last year. Hopefully now he’s back. Mr Charlton’s left a bit to work on and hopefully he’ll be a decent handicapper.

“The ground is slightly quicker than yesterday but it’s lovely fast racing ground. There should be no complaints.”

OCEANA TEAM HAPPY

The connections of runner-up Oceana Gold, who led for much of the opening stanjamesuk.com/casino Suffolk Handicap before being caught in the shadows of the post by Proponet, were very happy with the performance of the gelding.

Karl Fischer, of owners and breeders the C H F Partnership, said of the half-length second: “We are very happy with that run.

“The winner had already had a run this year, whereas we hadn’t.

“It was the first time at this trip for him today and he has stayed really well.

“He won at Newmarket last season and his dam (Silken Dalliance) won the Rothmans Final here a few years ago, so this track has been very good for the family.

“He is a very genuine horse. I don’t know where we will go next, we will just take it race by race with him.

“Another one of our horses, Cobo Bay, finished third at Sandown earlier this year and had Stubbs Art (third in yesterday’s stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas) behind him - and we were giving him weight! Maybe we should have brought him here too!”

JOCKEYS REPORT GOOD FAST GROUND AFTER THE FIRST

Richard Hills said: “It is perfect, there is no hiding behind the going.”

Tom Queally thought the going: “Perfect, good quick ground.”

Kerrin McEvoy reported: “Nice fast ground, very safe.

Richard Hughes said: “Beautiful.”

Ted Durcan thought the ground: “Very fast, safe ground.”

Joe Fanning said of the going: “Good fast ground.”

Ryan Moore thought the going: “Good.”

Steve Downe said: “It is lovely fast racing ground.”

Chris Caitlin said: “Firm.”

GETAWAY STARTS OFF THE SEASON IN FINE STYLE

Getaway began his season in the best way possible with an emphatic victory in the £90,000 Group Two stanjamesuk.com Jockey Club Stakes over a mile and a half for owner Baron Georg von Ullmann, trainer Andre Fabre and jockey Stephane Pasquier.

The same owner and trainer collected this race two years ago with Shirocco while they were also responsible for Manduro, officially rated the best horse in the world last year.

The five-year-old Monsun horse, a fine fourth in last season’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe swept into the lead entering the final furlong and won as he liked, with last year’s winner Sixties Icon in second and Galactic Star third.

Andre Fabre said: “He is a totally different horse to Manduro.

“Manduro had more speed and class while this horse is a real mile-and-half staying type.

“I was slightly concerned before today’s race as although he goes well fresh, he is not the easiest horse to work at home.

“He will improve for this run. The Coronation Cup, King George and Arc will be his main targets - we will go where the big money races are!

“The horse has trained on a lot from four to five.

“The ground today was not problem. It was fast ground when he won at Deauville and it wasn’t soft in the Arc. He is a lovely mover with a good turn of foot.”

The winning rider added: “He is a courageous horse. The pace was very slow early on and I just kept my position. It was a very easy win - he is an exciting horse.”

ROY DELIGHTED WITH ST LEGER WINNER’S RETURN

Runner-up Sixties Icon, winner of this race last year and the 2006 St. Leger, has not been seen on the racecourse since his run on the July Course in the Group Two Princess Of Wales’s WBX.com Stakes last July and connections were delighted with his seasonal resumption.

Paul Roy, Chairman of the British Horseracing Authority and owner with his wife Susan of Sixties Icon, said: “We’re absolutely, totally thrilled because he’s been off the racecourse and has had some problems but we think he’s back in business.

“He wasn’t blowing a lot and he’s probably five or six pounds short on fitness. I think the French horse is a seriously good horse.”

Bruce Raymond, racing manager to Saeed Suhail, owner of third-placed Galactic Star, said: “We’re more than pleased with that because he settled well and they didn’t go very fast which is essential for this horse and I think he’ll improve a lot for this. Probably when they quickened they caught him a little bit flat but he ran on well and was probably second best in the race.

“I should think he’ll go for the Hardwicke Stakes (at Royal Ascot) and have a race before that.”

GERRARD UPSETS SAKHEE

Captain Gerrard, a 15/2 chance, put up a fine performance on his seasonal debut to lift the £50,000 Group Three Stan James 08000 383384 Palace House Stakes over five furlongs.

The three-year-old, running in the colours of Reg Bond, battled on well in the final furlong under Tom Eaves to get the better of 11/4 favourite Sakhee’s Secret by a neck.

Successful trainer Bryan Smart said: “To come here first time out and take on the older horses was a very good performance.

“He still has improvement in him. With the all the rain and bad weather, we have been held up and to be honest I thought he looked a bit short in the paddock today. But then I was reminded he ran his best races last year when he was fatter!

“A particular journalist said that he wouldn’t train on. Well, he’s come and beaten the champion sprinter so I think they should be eating their words now.

“I don’t know where he will go next. I had thought of going for the Duke of York Stakes but as he has won over five furlongs today so we may look at the Temple Stakes at Haydock instead.

“He could go for the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot, but would need a bit of juice in the ground for that.

“He is a Group winner at two and three now, so has stallion potential. He is certainly the quickest horse I have trained.”

Winning jockey Tom Eaves was handed a four-day ban (Sunday, May 18 to Wednesday, May 21 inclusive) after being found guilty of using his whip with excessive force and frequency.

Hughie Morrison, trainer of runner-up Sakhee’s Secret, was happy with the seasonal reappearance of last year’s champion sprinter and Darley July Cup winner.

The East Ilsley trainer said: “That was a great run and I am thrilled.

“He was very relaxed today. Steve (Drowne, jockey) said he just hit the front and took a blow.

“He is probably best at six furlongs and a stone is a lot to give away. In six months time, we won’t be giving weight away to three year olds.

“The ground suited him today. He is a genuine good ground horse. It was the watered, dead ground which beat him at Haydock last year.

“He will now head for the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. There is nothing to go for before that.”

ROYAL ASCOT ON CARDS FOR SMART DEBUTANT FINJAAN

Finjaan may have made his racecourse bow in Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s second colours but he overpowered favourite Ouqba, in the same ownership but trained by Barry Hills, to win the five-furlong stanjamesuk.com Maiden Stakes.

Winning trainer Marcus Tregoning said: “Although he’s shown plenty of pace at home I haven’t done an awful lot with him so I was particularly pleased he wasn’t too green as much as anything else. We didn’t overdo it - if anything he was under done - and he should hopefully come on a bit more.

“Eventually, with maybe one more run he might be good enough to go to Royal Ascot. I think this was a very good race.”

Sheikh Hamdan’s racing manager Angus Gold confirmed that a run at the Royal Meeting was likely for the Royal Applause colt. He said: “We’ll discuss it with Marcus and see how the horse gets on. We’ll keep our options open as to whether we’ll keep him to five furlongs in the Norfolk Stakes or go for the Coventry.”

Race 6 - stanjamesuk.com Pretty Polly Stakes -
Winning & Placed Quotes

SAPHIRA’S FIRE COULD BE ROYAL ASCOT BOUND

The £30,000 Listed stanjamesuk.com Pretty Polly Stakes over 10 furlongs is often used as a springboard for the Epsom Oaks, but this year’s winner Saphira’s Fire is likely to head for Royal Ascot.

The winner remains unbeaten after two starts and came with a strong run down the outside inside the final furlong under Martin Dwyer to win readily by a length and a half from Cruel Sea.

Successful handler William Muir said of the 7/1 winner: “Her dam (All Our Hope) finished third in the Pretty Polly.

“This filly didn’t run as a two-year-old as she just had a few niggling problems.

“I thought she was a ridiculous price (33/1) when she won first time out at Wolverhampton, even though she was still very green.

“She was still a bit green today. Martin said she just cocked her ears when she heard the crowd and he just had to give her a couple of smacks to keep her mind on the job.

“It has been a difficult week as she was slightly lame with a stone bruise. Fortunately, we have a spa at home which she has been in every day.”

Looking ahead to the future, the daughter of Cape Cross is Royal Ascot bound, although her target at the meeting has yet to be decided.

The Lambourn handler continued: “She is in the Coronation Stakes, but that would mean dropping back to a mile while there is also the Listed fillies handicap to consider (the Sandringham Stakes over a mile).

“There will be nothing before Royal Ascot.”

Barry Hills, trainer of runner-up Cruel Sea, said: “I was very happy with her run.

“She has been a bit fresh today and just ran keen early on, but she is still learning.

“We’ll have to talk to Prince Khalid (Abdulla) but the Musidora (at York on Wednesday, May 14) is a possibility for her.”

SLUGGER A KNOCKOUT IN THE FINALE FOR COCKNEY REBEL’S CONNECTIONS

Phil Cunningham, who celebrated Guineas glory this weekend last year with Cockney Rebel, returned to the winner’s enclosure for the last race of the StanJamesUK.com Guineas Festival with the progressive Slugger O’Toole, who takes his name from the a character in the song The Irish Rover.

Cunningham, who races the gelding with friend Bob Cruthers, said: “It’s amazing. We were here a year yesterday and what a year it has been.

“He ran well. I only paid £8,000 for him and I bought him myself so I’m made up. Bob and I race him together - he also had a share in Louis Louis with me - and he’s a Sunderland fan which is why we have the red and white sleeves, otherwise they are the same as Cockney Rebel’s colours.”

Winning trainer Barry Hills said: “He’s a tough little horse and should improve. He’s probably had three races a bit quick really but it’s good to win again.”

GOING TODAY

The going today has changed to

GOOD TO FIRM

from good yesterday.

This follows a dry night.

Michael Prosser, Director of Racing and Clerk of the Course, said: “We have not had any appreciable rain for 72 hours and the ground has dried up since yesterday.

“There has been a fair breeze this morning and it is warmer too. We have genuinely decent good to firm ground. The horses yesterday kicked out very little because there is so much grass cover.”

The forecast is for the weather to be a bit humid, with temperatures of around 20 degrees celsius and the possibility of showers this afternoon, with the likelihood increasing as time goes on.

MUTHABARA ON HER WAY TO NEWMARKET

The Press Association reported this morning: -

‘Muthabara has been given the all clear to run in the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas at Newmarket today.

The Fred Darling winner had been the subject of an 11th-hour scare when she was found to be slightly sore after working at the trainer's Arundel base on Friday morning.

“She's OK and she's on her way up to Newmarket,” said trainer John Dunlop's racing secretary Marcus Hosgood.

Muthabara is 6/1 fourth-favourite with the sponsors for Guineas glory.’

KITTY AIMING FOR ANOTHER CLASSIC BRACE FOR CONNECTIONS

Just three years ago, both the 2000 and 1000 Guineas fell to the team of Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor, Aidan O’Brien and Kieren Fallon when Virginia Waters followed the winning example set 24 hours earlier by stablemate Footstepsinthesand.

This was the first time such a notable double had been recorded since King George VI, Fred Darling and Gordon Richards won both Classics in 1942 with Big Game and Sun Chariot.

That feat could be repeated today if Kitty Matcham, currently at 12/1, could make a winning return to Newmarket following last year’s seriousquitters.co.uk Rockfel Stakes win and claim the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas after Henrythenavigator’s victory in the colts’ Classic yesterday.

The filly, who will carry different colours to Henrythenavigator as she is owned by Sue Magnier in partnership with Diane Nagle, is certainly bred for the task at hand as she is by Guineas-winning sire Rock Of Gibraltar out of Irish Guineas and Oaks winner Imagine.

MEDIA HAILS NEW SUPER TEAM OF
O’BRIEN AND MURTAGH

Unsurprisingly, Henrythenavigator’s narrow defeat of New Approach in yesterday’s stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas dominates today’s racing pages.

Aidan O’Brien equalled Sir Michael Stoute’s modern-day record of five wins in the Classic when Henrythenavigator forged on past the favourite, giving Johnny Murtagh a dream start in his new job as Ballydoyle’s stable jockey.

Scotland On Sunday hailed Murtagh’s performance as a ‘ride of real brilliance’ while the Independent On Sunday said Murtagh ‘gave the regally-bred colt a masterful ride down the wide, straight, challenging Rowley Mile’ and the Racing Post praised a ride ‘loaded with cool’.

Referring to the duel between the first two home, The Sunday Times said: ‘The surprise was not the nationality of the winner, only the identity...New Approach, the strapping chestnut from Jim Bolger’s Coolcullen yard, had been talked up as the true champion all the way through the spring and yesterday acted for all the world as if the race was as good as won’.

The Irish Independent referred to the frustrating result for Sheikh Mohammed. ‘Having purchased New Approach in the closed season with wife Princess Haya as well as buying a chunk of Raven’s Pass, he had connection with the first three in the betting, including Godolphin’s bitterly disappointing Racing Post Trophy winner Ibn Khaldun’, said Ian McClean.

The Racing Post also highlighted Godolphin’s disappointment at Ibn Khaldun’s below par run, saying ‘while one of the sport’s two superpowers celebrated yet another 2,000 Guineas triumph , the other was once again left with nothing to smile about after the Racing Post Trophy hero ran a woeful race’.

NATAGORA SUPPORTED TO CLAIM ANOTHER VALUABLE PRIZE FOR FRANCE

Natagora remains very much to the forefront of the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas (3.20pm) betting and is now 11/4 from 3/1 with William Hill and Paddy Power. Sponsor Stan James has seen some money for Tom Dascombe’s first Classic runner Max One Two Three and have trimmed her to 33/1 from 50/1.

Saoirse Abu, conqueror of Henrythenavigator in last year’s Group One Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh, has been backed in to 25/1 from 33/1 with William Hill to give Jim Bolger back-to-back successes in the race.

Simon Callaghan’s stable is already proving to be one to watch in the markets and his Billion Dollar Kid, who runs in the Stan James 08000 383384 Handicap Stakes (5.40pm), is one of the best-backed horses of the day according to Ladbrokes, who have him at 7/1. The three-year-old is 8/1 in from 9/1 with Paddy Power and 8/1 from 10/1 with Coral while William Hill still have him at 9/1. Callaghan’s juvenile Cool Art has also been well supported for the stanjamesuk.com Maiden Stakes (4.30pm) with Ladbrokes and is now 11/4.

JuStan James and Coral have both cut Gulf Express in the first race, the stanjamesuk.com/casino Suffolk Stakes (2.05pm) to 4/1 from 5/1. Saeed Suhail’s runner is 10/3 from 11/2 with William Hill and 7/1 from 5/1 with Paddy Power. There has also been support in the opener for Supaseus, shortened a point by Paddy Power to 8/1, and Sound Of Nature, who is 11/1 from 12/1 with William Hill.

Enticing’s seasonal debut is proving to be just that for backers, with Stan James cutting her to 5/1 from 6/1 in the Group Three Stan James 08000 383384 Palace House Stakes. She is shorter still with William Hill (9/2 from 11/2) and Paddy Power (4/1 from 5/1). There is also some confidence that Zidane will build on his recent Listed Connaught Access Flooring Abernant Stakes win here at The Natwest Rowley Mile and he is now 7/2 from 4/1.

Malt Or Mash has also been backed for the Group Two stanjamesuk.com Jockey Club Stakes with the sponsor and is 10/1 from 12/1.
