At The Races, the UK and Ireland's most watched dedicated horseracing channel, will be the first place to see the new Grandstand at Ascot as racing returns to the Berkshire course on 27th May 2006.
The Pre-Opening Day sees the first action since the start of the redevelopment in 2004 and comes as a precursor to the official opening on 20th June 2006 at the start of Royal Ascot. It has been the largest design project of its type anywhere in Europe.
The opening race is live and exclusive on ATR at 12:50 where viewers can join the fortunate 3,000 local residents, annual badgeholders, boxholders and invited industry guests to see the new course at first hand. All six of the day's races are live on the channel, with the highlight being the running of the 2:20 Totesport Victoria Cup. The supporting card includes the inaugural running of the Buckhounds Stakes, a new mile-and-a-half Listed race for four-year-olds and up.
Matthew Imi, Chief Executive of At The Races, said: "We are delighted to welcome racing back to Ascot.
"The new grandstand is magnificent and I have no doubt Ascot will soon be recognised as the world's number one racecourse as well as one of this country's top sporting venues.
"Congratulations must go to the Duke of Devonshire, Douglas Erskine-Crum and all members of the team at Ascot for meeting what was generally recognised as being a very challenging deadline.
"We are delighted to be Ascot's media rights partner and this starts the countdown to what will be one of the highlights of the sporting calendar, the first Royal Ascot meeting at the redeveloped course."
