THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY
MUSSELBURGH, SATURDAY, MAY 28, 2005 GOING: GOOD 3.15pm £60,000 VCbet Scottish Sprint Cup Heritage Handicap (0-105), 5f For the latest best odds, go to www.BritOdds.com BP= best prices at the time of writing 1) (9) 3058 Cape Royal Milton Bradley 5-9-10 Philip Robinson Regular in this sort of contest but has been slightly struggling of his current market lately and likely to do so again. BP= 20/1 2) (7) 1862 Forever Phoenix Robert Cowell 5-9-10 Adam Kirby(5) Admirably tough and consistent mare. In good form and has the ground in her favour. Definite chance with talented claimer aboard but would probably prefer six furlongs. BP= 9/1 3) (10) -511 River Falcon Jim Goldie 5-9-09 Kieren Fallon Local hope who comes into the race on the back of good wins at Thirsk and York on soft ground. Has a clear chance, especially with Kieren Fallon in the saddle, but is no value. BP= 7/1 4) (16) 1352 The Lord Bill Turner 5-9-08 Colin Haddon (5) Has shown a return to form this year, although he has crept up the handicap again and will need to a career best performance to win this, especially from stall 16. BP= 16/1 5) (12) -122 Fonthill Road Richard Fahey 5-9-07 Paul Hanagan Seems much improved this year after winning at Beverley and unlucky when runner-up on last two occasions at Chester and York. An obvious chance, but price is skinny. BP= 4/1 6) (13) -443 Beckermet Roger Fisher 3-9-06 Royston Ffrench Decent juvenile in 2004 and showed signs he could be on his way back last time. Best at five furlongs but take son older horses. BP= 10/1 7) (4) 10-0 Atlantic Viking David Nicholls 10-9-05 Gyles Parkin Trainer always to be respected in these races but it is hard to draw much encouragement form this one’s seasonal debut. BP= 33/1 8) (1) -650 Peace OfferingDavid Nicholls 5-9-05 Franny Norton Another Nicholls representative. Having his first run for the stable, having previously been a decent handicapper in Ireland. Has not won since 2002. BP= 16/1 9) (6)3071 Whistler Milton Bradley 8-9-05p Paul Fitzsimons Successful last time out at Goodwood and on a fair mark but hard to see him winning this at this stage of his career. BP= 12/1 10) (8) 0-08 Dazzling Bay Tim Easterby 5-9-03b David Allan Winless in almost two years and hard to fancy on overall form this year. BP= 14/1 11) (5) 00-8 Fun To Ride Mick Easterby 4-9-01 Paul Mulrennan (3) Ran better than finishing position suggests on reappearance and appears well handicapped on best form. The concern is she may be better at six furlongs. BP= 16/1 12) (14) 7004 Malapropism Mick Channon 5-9-01Tony Culhane Has finished behind a few of these already this season and hard to see why it should be any different this time. BP= 20/1 13) (2) 0466 Dragon Flyer Mick Quinn 6-9-00 Robert Winston Has been dropping down the handicap and gave a hint last time that she was coming back to form. An outsider with a chance. BP= 22/1 14) (15) -870 Ptarmigan Ridge Linda Perratt 9-8-10 Joe Fanning Grand old servant who has run well in this race in the past. Not the most consistent, but has an each-way squeak if running his race. BP= 40/1 15) (17) 39-4 Plateau David Nicholls 6-8-09 Adrian Nicholls Looks to be the Nicholls first string. Goes well over the minimum distance and pleasing reappearance at Epsom in April. Some chance. BP= 14/1 16) (11) 1729 Highland Warrior Jim Goldie 6-8-08 Fergal Lynch Jim Goldie’s second string but a good chance on his best form. Main problem is that he would prefer softer ground and possibly an extra furlong. BP= 20/1 17) (3) -088 Bond Boy Bryan Smart 8-8-04 Dean Mernagh Won the Stewards’ Cup back in 2002 but looks a bit on the downgrade now and hard to see him figuring here. BP= 25/1 SUMMARY An open race with those wanting an interest advised to back Dragon Flyer each way. For old articles (from 1st March 2000) go to the Newslink Archive |
