REDOUTE’S WELL BRED FILLY THE TOP LOT
Danehill’s former brilliant galloping son Redoute’s Choice added another accolade to his career resume when he provided the sale topper at today’s Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast.
Offered by Pine Lodge Thoroughbreds (as agent), the weanling catalogued as lot 429 was a bay filly by the four time Group One winner and earner of over $1.5 million.
A half sister to the Sydney stakes winner Poppett, the filly is from the family of proven Group One stars All Our Mob, All Time High, Group winner All Archie and stakes performers All Sold, All Stormy and All Mighty Prince.

SUNDAY’S NATIONAL YEARLING SALE PROVES A WINNER ALL ROUND
Sunday’s Magic Millions National Winter Yearling Sale has been declared a great success by Managing Director David Chester following a solid session on the Gold Coast.
New records for the sale’s top price and overall gross were both smashed with buyers involved in heated bidding for a wide range of yearlings.
A total of 188 yearlings were sold on Sunday for a record gross of $2,650,450 (up from $1.8 million last year) at an average price of $14,045. The sale also boasted 70.15 per cent sale rate and a new record price of $300,000 ($90,000 last year).
The top price on Sunday for the sale was the $300,000 outlayed by Sydney based trainer Paul Sutherland for a colt by the champion Danehill. The now non-shuttling Danehill also had the second highest priced yearling, a $200,000 colt knocked down to Gerald Ryan.
“We are very pleased with Sunday’s sale result,” Chester said following the last lot’s sale at 7pm. “It was interesting to see strong interest from a number of leading trainers and agents from around the country here this year following the strong early form of last year’s graduates.”
Graeme Rogerson, Bede Murray, Clarry Conners, Troy Corstens, Anton Koolman, Gerald Ryan, Paul Sutherland, Lee Hope, Barbara Joseph, Ross McDonald, Aquanita Racing, Paul Willets, Paul O’Sullivan and Peter Strong were all active buyers on Sunday.
Chester said vendors who supported the sale with quality youngsters were rewarded with strong sales.
“The better horses in the catalogue were well sought out by good judges and they all sold very well,” Chester said. “But this sale really does have something for everyone.”
The most active individual buyers on Sunday were Doncaster Bloodstock Services (2 for $107,000), Darryl Collan (4 for $35,000), Bill Grace (6 for $29,500), John Harvey (5 for $19,000), Heinrich Bloodstock (3 for $72,000), Lee Hope (4 for $48,000), Washpool Thoroughbreds (4 for $76,000), Phillip Ernest Lloyd (5 for $12,450), Graeme Rogerson Bloodstock (8 for $230,000), Gerald Ryan (2 for $220,000), Peter Strong (4 for $41,000), Paul Sutherland (2 for $330,000) and Dale Sutton (8 for $54,250).
The National Sale continues on Monday for a full day of quality weanlings. Selling will commence at 11am.
DANEHILL COLTS STAR IN NATIONAL YEARLING SALE
Two colts by the champion sire Danehill have taken top honours at Sunday’s Magic Millions National Winter Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.
Originally passed in for $250,000 when offered in the ring, Oaklands Stud’s grey colt by the champion sire was soon after sold to leading Sydney based trainer Paul Sutherland for $300,000.
It is understood the colt will be syndicated among Sutherland’s clients and Oaklands Stud will also retain an interest in the sale topping youngster.
Catalogued as lot number 80, the grey colt is a half brother to the international stakes performer High Polish. His dam the unraced High Top mare Gibraltar Heights is a sister to stakes winning sire Royal Pinnacle and half sister to the top producer Brocade (dam of Barathea, Gossamer, Free At Last etc).
A little later the second yearling in the catalogue by the champion Danehill, a colt from the internationally bred Sadler’s Wells mare Jeanetta Cochrane was knocked down for $200,000.
The colt, a member of the Coolmore Stud draft, is from the family of champion international galloper Kalanisi, the American Champion turf colt of 2000 and was knocked down to leading local trainer Gerald Ryan.
Ryan, fresh off a win in yesterday’s Group Two Frank Packer Plate with the recent Australian Derby winner Clangalang, was pleased with his purchase.
“He’s a really nice colt,” Ryan said. “Probably the pick of the sale.”
“He was a nice mover, a real athlete and he looks a good value buy for a colt by Danehill with his pedigree and athleticism,” Ryan added.
ROGERSON HUNTS ANOTHER POLAR SUCCESS
Leading Sydney trainer Graeme Rogerson was one of the more active buyers at Sunday’s Magic Millions National Winter Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast as he attempts to buy another bargain Golden Slipper winner.
Last year Rogerson outlayed just $32,000 to buy a Success Express filly at this sale. Later named Polar Success she now has her name in the history books as the winner of the recent Group One Golden Slipper.
On Sunday Rogerson snapped up eight yearlings at the sale for a total outlay of $230,000.
Not surprisingly Rogerson purchased one of the youngsters by Polar Success’ sire Success Express. Lot 186 as catalogued, the yearling, a colt, was knocked down to Rogerson for $20,000.
Offered by Palmaday, the bay colt is the second foal of a lightly raced King Marauding sister to the Melbourne Group winner Cornwall Queen.
The colt’s family is that of the former brilliant Group One winning galloper and proven top class sire Runaway Groom.
Rogerson also bought a Marauding colt (ex County Royale) for $55,000, a Nothin’ Leica Dane filly (ex Gypsy Frolic) for $20,000, a Vettori colt (ex Little Choice) for $21,000, a Bite the Bullet filly (ex Overtured) for $25,000, a Bite the Bullet colt (ex Quevebel) for $16,000, a Nuclear Freeze (ex Ranein) filly for $50,000 and a Bite the Bullet colt (ex Raspberry Road) for $23,000.
