Going - good to firm
BP = best odds offered by Coral Eurobet, Blue Square, Ladbrokes, Tote, Stanley Racing, Bet365 and William Hill.
1(horse no) (8- draw) 1014-53 Thewhirlingdervish (21-days since last run on the Flat)Tim Easterby (trainer) 5-10-0 (age and weight) Kevin Darley (jockey)
BP= 5/1 Coral Eurobet
Consistent and game but is racing off his highest ever mark and seems to need a more galloping track than this to be at his best.
2 (6) 15-0331 Gralmano(21)Kevin Ryan 8 9-12 J Carroll
BP= 5/1 Coral Eurobet
Winning chaser and hurdler but still very effective on the Flat which he showed when winning at Thirsk, beating Kristensen, The Whirlingdervish and Virgin Soldier, at Thirsk on May 10. All four are very closely weighted again. Likes to race up with the pace of make it which will suit this tight course.
3 (7) 30400-5 Sun Bird(33) Dick Allan 5 9-12 A Culhane
BP= 10/1 Coral Eurober, Ladbrokes, Stanley Racing and William Hill
Races keenly but is usually held up. Might have a chance if allowed to stride on. Has been running well over hurdles with two places at Kelso since his one Flat run this year at Hamilton over 12 furlongs.
4 (4) 4020-03 Virgin Soldier(21)G Swinbank 7 9-12 R Winston
BP= 6/1 Coral Eurobet, Blues Square and Bet365
Consistent hurdler who ran well last time out on the Flat at Thirsk. Difficult to sum up.
5 (2) 6-41113 Parachute(103) Sir Mark Prescott 4 9-9 George Duffield BP= 4/1 Ladbrokes and Stanley Racing
Won three on the all-weather but has not raced since February 17. Sir Mark Prescott’s reputation will mean that he will start at a shorter price than he should.
6 (3) 024022 Kristensen(21) Don Eddy 4-9-8 D Allan(3) BP= 6/1 Coral Eurobet, Blue Square, Tote, Stanley Racing, Bet 365
Consistent sort but is not the easiest of rides and may need a more galloping track.
7 (1) 226512 Tass Heel(12)Mick Channon 4 8-0 Chris Catlin
BP= 11/2 Ladbrokes, Tote and William Hill
Consistent sort who found 14 furlongs here last time out not far enough. Won well at Beverley the time before over this distance and could be on the upgrade. Trainer in form.
8 (5) 150-003 Cosmic Case(12) Jim Goldie 8 7-12 N Mackay(7)
BP= 12/1 Coral Eurobet, Blue Square and Bet365
Fair hurdler and won last time out at Perth on May 23. Was third over 12 furlongs here on May 19 and could run better over this longer trip. Trainer in good form.
SUMMARY
A fascinating and open-looking handicap. The value is with TASS HEEL who gets weight from all bar one and could be on the upgrade. Great each-way value.
