DID YOU BACK A 20/1 CLASSIC WINNER, RECOMMENDED AT 33/1? - YOU COULD HAVE DONE IF YOU FOLLOWED THE ONLY ADVICE CONTAINED IN THIS WEEK’S VALUE BETTING COLUMN ABOUT THE ENTENMANN’S IRISH 2000 GUINEAS ON SATURDAY, MAY 26, 2001 - BACK BLACK MINNALOUSHE EACH-WAY.

THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN APPEARS EXCLUSIVELY ON THIS SITE EVERY SATURDAY. SEE BELOW FOR THE COLUMN IN QUESTION.

THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY,

SATURDAY, MAY 26, 2001
Going - Good to firm

BP= best price of Coral, William Hill, Ladbrokes and the Tote.

3.50pm £225,000 Group One Entenmann's Irish 2000 Guineas 1m, The Curragh, Ireland.

1) (11) 42-11 Amicable Barry Hills (GB) 3-9-00 Michael Hills BP=20 Ladbrokes & Tote
Has won a Doncaster maiden by a neck and a Chester handicap this season. The form of the handicap has not worked out particularly well so even a six-length triumph in that sphere does not look classy enough in this classic.

2) (3) Arch Station Willie Mullins 3-9-00 N G McCullagh BP=200 Ladbrokes & Tote
Has never raced before so this is asking a lot.

3) (9) 1-257 Black Minnaloushe Aidan O'Brien 3-9-00 Johnny Murtagh BP=33 Ladbrokes
Finished well when seventh in the French 2000 Guineas last time out - previously lost all chance at the start.. Won his two starts last season and is worth another chance. Good value.

4) (1) 5-546 Cashel Bay Luke Comer 3-9-00b W J Smith BP=150 except Coral
Last ran over 14 furlongs which says enough.

5) (10) 24-52 Cruiskeen Lawn Con Collins 3-9-00 Pat Shanahan BP=150 Tote
Second in two maidens - not good enough.

6) (6) 532-1 Dr Brendler John Hayden 3-9-00 Fran Berry BP=20 generally
Has done all his racing on soft ground so far. Won a Guineas trial but has more to do on this good to firm going.

7) (4) 55-21 Freud Aidan O'Brien 3-9-00tb Jamie Spencer BP=10 William Hill
Won a valuable maiden here earlier in the month when blinkered for the first time. The form has not really worked out and he has still got something to prove.

8) (2) 33-41 Maumee Dermot Weld 3-9-00b1 Pat Smullen BP=50 Ladbrokes
Won a Gowran Park maiden last time but has lots more to do.

9) (8) 211-4 Minardi Aidan O'Brien 3-9-00 Mick Kinane BP=2 Coral & Tote
The number one O’Brien hope. Fourth in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas after not not getting the clearest runs. A clear chance but not much value.

10) (12) 14-33 Mozart Aidan O'Brien 3-9-00 J A Heffernan BP=20 Ladbrokes & Hills
Twice beaten at odds-on this season and has not progressed as much as first thought.

11) (5) 3-1 Murgharreb Ben Hanbury (GB) 3-9-00 Richard Hills BP=4 Coral & Ladbrokes
Won a Newmarket maiden by five lengths but still has something to prove.

12) (7) 12-42 Tamburlaine Richard Hannon 3-9-00 Richard Hughes BP=13/8 except Tote
Came back to form when second in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas. Is the one they all have to beat but is no value.

Summary
The best value is the 33/1 offered by Ladbrokes about Black Minnaloushe each-way.

GOOD LUCK
