BIGGEST GAMBLE LANDED, BUT HILLS STILL PLEASED WITH NATIONAL RESULT
Monty's Pass landed the biggest winning bets in history of the Grand National on Saturday. William Hill laid £5,000 each-way at 33-1 in late February and a week later £10,000 at 20-1, paying total winnings of £406,250.
However, Hills are still smiling as the well-backed favourites, Shotgun Willy, Chives, Iris Bleu and Ad Hoc all failed to make the frame. Head of Public Relations for Hills, David Hood, said, "Punters had the most phenomenal winning month in March, but its swings and roundabouts and Aintree has been kind to us. The National has worked out as a score draw. Connections of the winner have landed the touch of all touches but overall it is a tremendous result for the bookmakers."
Hills estimate total UK turnover was well up on 2002 and expect a new record in excess of £110 million for the industry on the day.
