BEST MATE CUT TO 5-2 FOR GOLD CUP WITH CORAL AFTER KICKING KING IS RULED OUT
Best Mate has hardened to 5-2 clear favourite with Coral from 3-1 for next month's Gold Cup following today's news that the 7-1 third favourite Kicking King will miss the race.
Kicking King is Coral's worst ante post result in the Gold Cup and his defection from the race is yet another blow to ante post punters following the injuries to Fundamentalist and Kauto Star earlier in the year.
"It's a terrible shame for the connections but it is also a terrible blow for many punters who had backed Kicking King at all rates down from 40-1 at the start of the season to just 7-1", said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.
Coral reacted to the news by making Kicking King 4-1 favourite to win a second King George VI Steeplechase later this year, and are also offering 14-1 against Kicking King winning the 2006 Gold Cup.
"At least Kicking King will live to fight another day and he is already Coral's 4-1 ante post favourite to retain his King George crown", added Clare.
As well as trimming Best Mate to 5-2 from 3-1, Coral also cut Kingscliff to 11-2 from 6-1, Strong Flow to 7-1 from 9-1, and Cesletial Gold to 10-1 from 14-1.

AT THE RACES TO SUPPORT RETRAINING OF RACEHORSES FOR 2005
At The Races is delighted to announce that it will be supporting Retraining of Racehorses ("RoR") as its nominated charity for 2005.
RoR is British Horseracing's official charity for the welfare of former racehorses. It aims to raise funds from the British Racing Industry to help support charitable re-training and re-homing of ex-racehorses and to show how ex-racehorses can flourish in a second career.
Andrew Parker-Bowles, Chairman of RoR, said: "We are very grateful to At The Races for adopting RoR as their nominated charity this year. With their large daily viewing audience, they are the ideal vehicle to get our message across that all retired racehorses that are suitable should be given the chance of a second career."
Matthew Imi, Chief Executive of At The Races, said: "Throughout their racing careers thoroughbred racehorses give all of us an enormous amount of pleasure but it is equally incumbent on us to take responsibility for them when they leave the sport.
"At The Races is uniquely positioned to assist RoR in its main objective for 2005. Namely, to further educate owners and trainers on the opportunities available to them for their horses once they have finished their racing careers.
"With well in excess of a million viewers a month tuning in, ATR will be using its channel and website to promote RoR and its work throughout the year and will also seek to raise funds for the charity through various channel and website initiatives, the interactive red button application and via the phone.
"Whilst the majority of owners and trainers take a great deal of time and care over finding suitable new homes for their horses, there are still a lot of people within the racing industry who are simply not aware that there's life for a horse after racing. We look forward to working with all at RoR and their affiliated racehorse rehabilitation centres to promote this very important message."
