THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY

NEWBURY, SATURDAY, MARCH 6, 2004

going: good

BP = at the time of writing but for the best current odds go to www.BritOdds.com (Click on link above)

2.20pm £14,000 added Vodafone Handicap Hurdle 2m110y

1) 1/U- Chapeltown 350 Nicky Henderson 12-11-12 Barry Fenton -
Very useful sort at best- has been very lightly raced in recent seasons becauzse of training problems. Will be fit but has not run for a year and is now 12.

BP= 25/1 Blue Square

2) 1131 Salhood 14 Steve Gollings 5-11-09 Robert Thornton 130
Makes the running and has won three of his last four starts, the latest being at Newcastle two weeks ago. Improving sort but he is up another 6lb for that latest victory.

BP= 11/2 Stanleybet, Bet365 & William Hill

3) 0256 Brooklyn ìs Gold 53 (21F) Ian Williams 9-11-08 N Carter(7)
A front runner who has a recent start on the Flat on Lingfield’s all-weather. He has to improve on his recent starts to figure here.

BP= 14/1 Tote

4) -725 Hawadeth 49 Victor Dartnall 9-11-07 Mr T J Malone(7) 139
Comes from behind and has run well at Kempton on his last two starts. This race seems sure to be run at a fast pace which may suit him. The amateur rider is OK and takes 7lb off.

BP= 7/1 Ladbrokes

5) -F07 Gone Far 42 Martin Pipe 7-11-04v Tony McCoy 135
Ran well last time out at Cheltenham and has dropped another 3lb in the weights. However, he may want softer ground.

BP= 12/1 Bet365

6) /F13 Mambo 42 Nicky Henderson 6-11-02 Barry Geraghty 134
Won at Wetherby and then third at Cheltenham when Gone Far was seventh. Has a chance.

BP= 15/8 Stanleybet

7) River City NON RUNNER

8) 2465 Chem ìs Truce 35 Venetia Williams 7-10-12 Sam Thomas(5)
Has been disappointing. Maybe found the ground too soft last time out. 134
BP= 16/1 Coral Eurobet, Blue Square & Tote

9) 8241 Fundamental 39 Jonjo O ìNeill 5-10-11 Liam Cooper 136
Pulls hard and often makes the running. Came good at Leicester last time out over two miles and five furlongs. This is a better race.

BP= 9/1 Tote

10) 1444 Spring Pursuit 14 E G Bevan 8-10-06 C Bolger(5) 137
Changed trainers since last run. Consistent sort who won at Warwick in January. This is a tougher call of his highest-ever handicap mark.

BP= 12/1 Blue Square

11) 743 Salinas 16 Milton Harris 5-10-05 Ollie McPhail
Third at Taunton last time but nothing too inspiring about him.

BP= 20/1 Blue Square & Stanleybet

SUMMARY
This is an open sort of handicap which seems to be sure to be run at a fast pace with three front runners in the field. Hawadeth will come from behind and 7/1 is good value each-way.
