THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2006 SANDOWN
1:30pm £40,000 Victor Chandler Handicap Chase (Grade Three), 2m GOING:GOOD BP= the best price at the time of writing 1) 13-1 Dempsey 28 Mark Pitman 8-11-12 Andrew Tinkler Exciting prospect who was an impressive winner over Tikram and Tysou over the course and distance on his return to action Could come on again for that but will need to under top-weigh as he has more to do here under 8lb more. BP= 4/1 2) 18-6 Locksmith 63 Martin Pipe 6-11-09 Timmy Murphy Smart novice last season but well-beaten sixth over course and distance in Tingle Creek Trophy on his sole start this term but trainer was out of form then. Likes to make all but he still has questions to answer. BP= 25/1 3) 61-2 Tikram 28 Gary Moore 9-11-08b Tony McCoy Weighted to reverse form with Dempsey for a three quarters of a length defeat over the course and distance last time (4lb better off). Will be doing his best work at the finish and tough and genuine sort. BP= 6/1 4) 6211 The Town Crier 30 Sue Smith 11-11-07 Dominic Elsworth In fine form over fences and hurdles this season but more on his plate here than when landing Newbury Handicap Chase on penultimate start and up 8lb for that. BP= 6/1 5) -413 Tysou 28 Nicky Henderson 9-11-02 Mick Fitzgerald Ran with credit last time but failed to master Dempsey and Tikram, though better off. Has never won off a mark this high but consistent sort who always has a chance. BP= 10/1 6) 121 Hoo La Baloo 40 Paul Nicholls 5-11-02 Barry Geraghty Spring-heeled novice who has found only Racing Demon too good this season. Jumped superbly for a good ground course and distance win last time but faces his toughest task to date and is not that experienced. Worth opposing at these odds. BP= 7/2 7) 3-17 Bambi De L'Orme 85 Ian Williams 7-10-13 Paul Carberry Capable but exposed handicapper. Well beaten on last start in November. BP= 8/1 8) 4122 Old Flame 13 Paul Nolan 7-10-10 John Cullen Essentially a smart mud-loving handicapper. Ran creditably to get within four-lengths of Fota Island last time. Likes to be up the pace. BP= 9/1 9) F062 Kalca Mome 21 Philip Hobbs 8-10-07 Richard Johnson Hasn't won for almost a year and looks out of his depth as he may want softer ground and a longer trip. BP= 33/1 10) 473- Jurado Express 442 Venetia Williams 10-10-00 Lee Stephens(5) Faces a stiff task after a lay-off. BP= 50/1 SUMMARY Tikram will be suited by the fast pace guaranteed here, like the good ground and relish the Sandown hill. Gary Moore's nine-year-old proved that he is still effective at the minium trip last time and a 4lb pull with the top-weight makes him the selection. Great each-way value.
