DUBAI INTERNATIONAL RACING CARNIVAL NEWS

Noseda, Weld & Channon have first Carnival winners – Durcan Treble & Dettori Double

Adiemus gave trainer Jeremy Noseda his first win in the Dubai International Racing Carnival on Saturday at Nad Al Sheba, and jockey Frankie Dettori a double for the evening, when winning the US$90,000 Emirates Airline Stakes over 1,600 metres on the turf.

Adiemus, a six-year-old son of Green Desert, was always going well and came through to take up the lead 200 metres from the line, running on well to cross the line three lengths ahead of the Ed Dunlop-trained pair of Swift Tango, Paul Hanagan up, and the Willie Supple-partnered Anani. Dettori celebrated in typical style after the race with his second
flying dismount of the evening.

Rosencrans made amends for his third place in the UAE 2,000 Guineas (Gr.III), with an easy and impressive win in the Skywards Plate for Thoroughbreds over 1,500 metres. Trained by Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by Frankie Dettori, the three-year-old disputed the lead early in race but was in control coming into the straight.

Dettori rode hands and heels and Rosencrans pulled away from the field to win by an impressive nine and a half lengths from Storm of Tara.

After performing the first flying dismount of the evening Dettori said, “He was a lot fitter today and I was surprised how far in front I was. He was doing it easy and then we just went for home. He is stepping up nicely and I am sure he will go on to win another and we will slowly turn up the heat.”

Cat Belling’s Dubai International Racing Carnival success continued when she was awarded the US$100,000 Emirates Airline Trophy over 1,300 metres on the turf. Feet So Fast, with Durcan in the saddle, came with a great run to cross the line a length and three quarters ahead of Cat Belling. However, Durcan weighed in light after the race and was disqualified, giving Cat Belling, trained by Rashid Bouresly and ridden by Willie Supple, the race.

Naughty Nell, trained by Peter Brette, was second with Sweden’s Rotulo in third.

Doug Watson’s Sadded, under Richard Hills, made all to win the US$100,000 Emirates Airline Classic over the straight 1,200 metres. Bo Bid, Ryan Moore up, mounted a challenge at the 200 metres post but it was the Watson-trained Sleeping Weapon with Supple in the saddle who came with a challenge in the closing stages but missing out by a short
head.

Mick Channon trained by first winner of the Carnival with the Durcan-partnered Pic Up Sticks taking a clear lead 100 metres out and running on to land the US$100,000 Emirates Airline Cup over 1,300 metres on the turf.

Pic up Sticks raced towards the rear and was going well into the straight, 400 metres out the battle was on between Storm Racer, trained by Malcolm Thwaites, and Pic Up Sticks, with Channon’s charge getting up by a length from the fast finishing Super Brand, trained by Mike de Kock.

Dermot Weld had his first winner of the Carnival when Evolving Tactics came with an easy run to win the US$90,000 Emirates Airline Plate over 1,600 metres on the turf. Evolving Tactics began making progress from the 400 metres and was in the lead just after the 200 metres pole, running on to win by two and three quarter lengths from Kundooz. The win gave Durcan a treble for the evening.

Van Nistelrooy, trained by Mazin al Kurdi and ridden by Durcan, was a convincing winner of the opening race, the Emirates Airline Challenge for Purebred Arabians over 1,600 metres. Velte, with Brett Doyle up, was closing at the finish but could not catch Van Nistelrooy who crossed the line one and a half lengths clear.
