BIG ROLLOVERS AND SMALL FIELDS SET THE SCENE FOR £350,000 SCOOP6 SATURDAY
Rollover money of more than £200,000 will start the Scoop6 pools off tomorrow as Doncaster and Newbury take their turn in hosting the Tote's big Saturday bet which sees only 55 runners declared over the six legs.
Already sitting in the Scoop6 pools is a £112,508 Win fund rollover and a £97,126 Bonus Prize fund rollover.
"Whether you're a regular week-in-week-out Scoop6 punter or one of the more cautious breed who like to wait for the bet conditions to be right; tomorrow is a 'must-play' day on the Scoop6, and we look set to take a big pool," said Tote spokesman Jeremy Scott.
"With just 55 runners declared over the six legs-which includes a first leg of just five-and over £200,000 already sitting in the pools, tomorrow is one of those days that the bet just looks too good not to have a go at."
"Helping the pool grow, there'll be at least 60 people looking to up their usual Scoop6 stakes, who despite including losing selections in last weeks bet, managed to walk away with a Place dividend of £744!"
"A single winner tomorrow going on to land next Saturday's Bonus Prize fund will be looking at a total Scoop6 haul of up to £350,000!"
Saturday's Scoop6 legs are:
Leg 1 2.05 Doncaster
Leg 2 2.25 Newbury
Leg 3 2.40 Doncaster
Leg 4 3.00 Newbury
Leg 5 3.15 Doncaster
Leg 6 3.35 Newbury
MAMOOL AND PUGIN IMPRESS ON THEIR RETURNS
Mamool and Pugin have Godolphin looking forward to all of the major staying events for 2003 following their impressive returns to racing at Nad Al Sheba last Thursday night.
Mamool proved too good for Pugin by a half length in the inaugural running of the AED350,000 Khas El Dhaheb over 2,800m however both suggested that they would go onto higher honours later this year.
Having his first start since his fourth to Bollin Eric in the St Leger at Doncaster, Mamool proved that little too brilliant for Pugin however the second horse lost no admirers, having his first start since the Melbourne Cup and conceding the winner four and a half kilograms.
"I have always liked the horse," winning jockey Frankie Dettori said, "He ran some great races last season, he won at Royal Ascot and then produced good efforts in the German Derby and the St Leger and he has come back very well."
Mamool provided trainer Saeed bin Suroor with his third win for the evening after dominating both the Maidens earlier in the programme.
The opening event for the fillies may not have gone according to expectations with Anyaas winning the race under John Carroll, defeating the much favoured Joharra, the mount of Dettori.
A half-sister to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Tempera, Joharra was among the nine Godolphin entries for the Grade I Kentucky Oaks in May and was expected to win here.
The colt Burchfield ran up to his pre race expectations when he ran away with the other maiden, defeating stablemates Western Commander and Mutasallil.
"Burchfield started his career very well tonight and we have high hopes for him" Dettori said. It was a night that secured Godolphin a deal of confidence heading into next weekend's major meetings, particularly Super Saturday.
Super Saturday is a complete dress rehearsal for the Dubai World Cup meeting and Godolphin appear likely to have a number of their major horses appearing for their prep races prior to march 29, in particular Sulamani in the AED350,000 Group II third round of the Maktoum Challenge.
"It is a great weekend and we look forward to next week," Dettori said. "Hopefully everything will pass their test and get ready for the Dubai World Cup."
The Dermot Weld-trained One More Round turned in an impressive trial for the Dubai World Cup meeting when a very good second behind Conceal in the feature sprint.
One More Round was beaten a half length when conceding seven kilograms to Conceal and showed he was right on target for the US$2,000,000 Group I Dubai Duty Free over 1,777m on the turf or the US$1,000,000 Group I Godolphin Mile on the dirt.
Jebel Ali trainer Allan Smith continued to pressure the leaders in the Trainer's Championship, a winning double taking him closer to defending champion Erwan Charpy.
Wathbat Mujtahid secured his third win of the season under Gary Hind in the 45-75 rated handicap while Ragsat Alsharq won the event for Amateur Riders, ridden by Smith's son Martin.
