TATTERSALLS APPOINTS GREEK REPRESENTATIVE

Tattersalls has appointed Greek owner/breeder Chris Imirziadis as its Greek representative with immediate effect.

Athens based Imirziadis has been actively involved in both racing and breeding in Greece since 1989 and is currently Vice President of the Greek Racehorse Owners Union (EL.S.I.IP.) as well as being a member of the Greek Thoroughbred Breeders Association. A property developer and hotelier, 38 year old Imirziadis is also joint editor of the Greek racing magazine 'Idioktitis'.

Commenting on the appointment Imirziadis said; " Tattersalls is Europe's leading firm of bloodstock auctioneers already enjoying a strong profile in Greece and I am delighted to be acting as their representative. Greece has experienced significant recent growth in racing and breeding, and as it continues to grow we will be aiming to
attract greater numbers of Greek buyers to Tattersalls."

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;

" Chris' appointment reflects the increasing amount of business we have been attracting from Greece in the last few years. In 2002 Greek buyers were active at every Tattersalls sale except the Houghton and we are looking to build upon this growth with Chris' invaluable assistance."

BHB RESPONDS TO RACING POST REPORT ON RACING REVIEW COMMITTEE PROPOSALS

Commenting on today's Racing Post report on BHB Racing Review Committee proposals, BHB Chief Executive Greg Nichols, a member of the Committee, said today:

"The Racing Review Committee was empowered by the BHB Board to examine
British Racing's structure, content and product and to develop new concepts for consideration. That is exactly what it is in the middle of doing. What has been leaked are outline proposals.

"I object to the Racing Post's inaccurate assertions that the proposals are "secret" and being "withheld from the general public, and even most industry professionals", as though it was planned to spring major change on racing without consultation.

"It was explicitly promised when the review was launched last year that the process would be thoroughly consultative. There has already been extensive consultation across the industry and with Racing's customers. We have canvassed the opinions of thousands of people who are not involved in racing and we are now testing hypotheses with a large sample of demographic groups.

"In the coming weeks and months we already have planned further rounds of consultation with people within and outside the industry on precisely the sort of areas included in today's article. The ongoing discussion is vital and will continue.

"It is also wrong for the Racing Post to talk of vehement opposition to introducing proposals for next year. We are in regular contact with the RCA, ROA, Levy Board and individual racecourses and owners, plus many other parties.

"The structure and organisation of racing is obviously fundamental to everyone who works in and follows the sport. Proposals and plans should be considered in detail at the right time and not be presented in a way which can only lead to misapprehensions and a partial understanding."

DANUTA A RISING STAR FOR GODOLPHIN

Godolphin¹s plans for their fillies for the remainder of the year were thrown into a slightly confused state following the brilliant performance of Danuta and the disappointing effort of Loving Kindness in the US$200,000 Moonshell Mile at Nad Al Sheba last night.

Loving Kindness, purchased by Godolphin in company with last season's outstanding three-year-old Sulamani, was expected to return on a winning note however she could finish only fifth, beaten over 16 lengths behind her stablemate.

"We will have a good look at the filly tomorrow," said Godolphin Racing Manager Simon Crisford.

"Quite clearly things weren¹t right today."

"She is a beautifully bred filly and worth a lot as a broodmare and hopefully we¹ll get her back into winning form."

Danuta, in contrast, will follow the fillies path towards the US$250,000 UAE 1000 Guineas on March 13 and, possibly, the US$250,000 UAE Oaks on April 4.

Muwakleh, winner of the inaugural Moonshell Mile, eventually went on to win the UAE 1000 Guineas before finishing second in the English 1000 Guineas while last year's winner Imperial Gesture missed the UAE 1000 Guineas before winning the Oaks and then two Grade I events in America. Danuta came into the Moonshell Mile having won her Maiden at Belmont Park last year and is obviously a filly well above average, jumping straight to the front and leading throughout to eventually win by over seven lengths from stablemate Ashraaf.

The Brazilian-bred filly Escania finished well to be third, a half length away and conceding the first two six kilograms.

"She is a very nice filly," Crisford said, ³We are delighted, she had good form last summer in America and she has brought that here."

"The 1000 Guineas and, possibly, the Oaks will be her targets."

"We will take it from there and see what she can do in America next summer."

Danuta also provided Australian jockey Kerrin McEvoy with his second winner in the Emirates, having being victorious aboard Naheef for Godolphin in the Listed Al Rashidiya a fortnight ago.

Danuta brought up a winning double for Godolphin, the stable represented earlier in the evening by Parhelion in the Maiden.

Gary Hind carried off the major Purebred Arabian event of the evening when Ashaaya D'Aroco maintained her unbeaten record with a strong win in the second round of the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Purebred Arabian Triple Crown.

Comment: Another strong performance by a filly who has improved immensely with each of her runs. This was her third win from as many starts, graduating from a Maiden win in late December to a Group III success here. When she won her Maiden she ran slower time than the UAE-bred Maiden on the same night however there is no doubt she has improved a great deal since then. In her two previous wins, ASHAAYA D'AROCO has come from back in the field and finished too strongly for her rivals but here she settled second behind the leader AL AWAL. Had the pace been greater there is no doubt she would have settled back however with no pace in the first 100m jockey Gary Hind had no hesitation but to go forward and sit second. Opening round winner EAU ROYAL settled third on the outside of the highly ranked Qatari visitor DHAHMAAN. ASHAAYA D'AROCO went to the front at the top of the straight after AL AWAL dropped off however she was quickly challenged by TIDJAM LOTOIS who went through on the inside and DHAHMAAN who looked to be travelling the best of all. EAU ROYAL was ridden along from the 600m and he was staying on however the first two did come away. TIDJAM LOTOIS got to the front and did look as though he was going to go on and win however ASHAAYA D'AROCO refused to give in and came again in the final 100m to eventually go on and win by half a length. TIDJAM LOTOIS came into this with a placing in a handicap on his last start however prior to that he had refused to race in the Al Asayl Championship and then lost his rider in this opening round. However both of those races were out of a chute and obviously he appreciated the course proper start in this. There is no doubt that ASHAAYA D'AROCO is a quality filly and the third round will suit even better as she is still on the improve. The first two finished 11 lengths in front of the third and fourth, both of those horses rated much higher. TIDJAM LOTOIS is prepared by Julian Smart who also trained the second horse in this event in 2001 and
2002, Nez D'Or finishing second in 2001 before his championship season in 2002.

Race Six: Moonshell Mile (Prestige). 1,600m.

Thoroughbreds. NH & SH 3YO Fillies.

Prizemoney: US$200,000. 1st: US$120,000. 2nd: US$40,000. 3rd: US$20,000. 4th: US$10,000. 5th: US$6,000. 6th: US$4,000.

1. DANUTA (USA) 54kg
2000 b f Sunday Silence- Polish Style (Danzig)
Owner: Godolphin
Breeder: Darley Stud Management LLC
Trainer: S bin Suroor. Jockey: K McEvoy.

2. ASHRAAF (USA) 54kg
2000 b f Deputy Minister - Cinnamon Sugar (Wild Again)
Owner: Godolphin
Breeder: Skara Glen Stables
Trainer: S bin Suroor. Jockey: R Hills.

3. ESCANIA (CHI) 60kg
2000 gr f Edgy Diplomat - Carezza (Card Game)
Owner: Yukio Shimokobe
Breeder: Haras San Patricio
Trainer: J Sadler. Jockey: J Murtagh.

Then came (in order): Akinfeet (SAF), Loving Kindness (USA), Lady Catherine (GB), Desert Glow (IRE), Best Crhis (BRZ), Festival Queen (GB). N/R: Angels R Watching (USA) [Late]. 9 ran. Margins: 7.75len, .5len, 3.5len. Time:
1:37.46 (Last 800m: 49.58).

Comment: Very similar to both Muwakleh and Imperial Gesture, DANUTA completely dominated her rivals in this third running of the Moonshell Mile and looks set to emulate the two previous winners of the race. Muwakleh eventually went on to win the UAE 1000 Guineas before finishing second in the English 1000 Guineas while Imperial Gesture missed the UAE 1000 Guineas before winning the Oaks and then two Grade I events in America. There is no doubt that DANUTA can go on and win the UAE 1000 Guineas and the Oaks as she clearly has the better of the fillies that she met here. Jumping straight to the front, she was never in any real danger and quickened when asked for a second effort at the top of the straight and went away to win by over seven lengths. Her time of 1:37.46 was slower than Muwakleh (1:36.46) and Imperial Gesture (1:36.98) however she was allowed to coast to the line in the final 100m. LOVING KINDESS was expected to cement her claims to major filly honours later in the season however after settling back in the field she made a move approaching the home turn but was never really a threat when the field turned for home. Jockey Frankie Dettori was looking down at the filly and he didn't knock her around when beaten. ASHRAAF ran a very good race, she raced wide midfield although she did have cover and her effort to stay on and finish second was good. There is no doubt that DANUTA is a class filly and she showed that here and would be expected to get further than 1,600m. She is a strong filly by Sunday Silence and has the ability to emulate Imperial Gesture.

Race Seven: Intikhab Handicap 2,400m.

Thoroughbreds. NH 4YOs+ & SH 3YOs+ 50-75.

Prizemoney: Dhs72,500. 1st: Dhs36,250. 2nd: Dhs17,400. 3rd: Dhs10,150. 4th: Dhs6,525. 5th: Dhs2,175.
