BIG TOTE JACKPOT POOL HEADS FOR WOLVERHAMPTON
The Tote Jackpot pool could reach as much as £250,000 tomorrow, as the bet, which has been rolling over since February 2 visits Wolverhampton.
The abandonment of today's Jackpot meeting at Hereford means the pool-which currently stands at £129,661-will survive for at least one more day, and provide the focus for the betting at Wolverhampton tomorrow.
"The Jackpot pool has been steadily building over the past few days as the rollovers have grown," said Tote spokesman Jeremy Scott. "Now the bet has broken the £100,000 barrier, we expect the momentum to increase dramatically, and would not be surprised to see the pool near the £250,000 mark tomorrow."
PIPE AND HENDERSON CLOSE IN ON GREATS
Martin Pipe and Nicky Henderson, who respectively have 25 and 24 National Hunt Festival wins apiece, are now the fifth and sixth most-successful trainers in the history of jump racing's premier meeting.
Although they both have some way to go to catch Fulke Walwyn, who had 44 successes, Pipe and Henderson have now almost reached such luminaries as Fred Winter, Fred Rimell and Arkle's trainer Tom Dreaper, as the list below shows.
Henderson, who had four wins at last year's Festival, plans his whole year around the meeting. He said: "On the Flat you have the Guineas, Chester, York, the Derby, Royal Ascot, the July Meeting, Goodwood, more York and so on - therefore you have a lot of bites at the cherry. But as far as jump racing is concerned, there are really only three days.
"Cheltenham is everything - absolutely everything. It is just a very special few days, the whole year is condensed into it. There is 362 day's preparation for it, or in a leap year it's 363!
"Of my successes, See You Then's three Champion Hurdles stand out, Remittance Man won an Arkle and then the Queen Mother and I think he was a great horse. Last year we had four wins, and the last of them was especially poignant when Stormyfairweather won the Cathcart after an extraordinary preparation."

(Current trainers in bold) (NB Trainers of some of the earliest winners were not recorded)
Edward Gillespie, Cheltenham's Managing Director, commented: "Martin Pipe and Nicky Henderson both have phenomenal records at the world's most-competitive jumps meeting and I wouldn't bet against either Martin or Nicky leaping into second place if they hit a rich seam of form this year."
BOBBYJO OUT OF NATIONAL
Bobbyjo will miss this year's Martell Grand National after sustaining a fracture to the back of his near-fore knee at Fairyhouse yesterday.
Trainer Tommy Carberry reported of his 1999 hero: "He's probably going to get a screw put in the bone at the back of his knee.
"He'll probably go to the vets for the operation but I have to arrange it yet.
"It'll mean he'll be off the course for the best part of a year. Hopefully he'll come back all right but you never know with this sort of injury."

LATEST ACTION FROM NAD AL SHEBA
A bold plan by Zabeel Stables trainer Satish Seemar to bypass the Listed HH The President's Cup at Abu Dhabi came to fruition at Nad Al Sheba last Sunday night when Superiority caused a mild surprise to win the Dhs200,000 Al Fahidi Fort, 1,600m.
Superiority had won the Listed national day Cup at Abu Dhabi earlier in the season and the HH The President Cup was considered the logical option for the horse after that.
However, when Superiority finished second to Glad Master on the turf at Nad Al Sheba, Seemar decided to keep him away from Abu Dhabi, where Glad Master went, and eyed the Al Fahidi Fort.
The victory of Superiority continued a highly successful weekend for champion jockey Ted Durcan, this was his third victory for the night and followed on from his double at Nad Al Sheba the previous Thursday which included the rich Group I Al Maktoum Challenge for thoroughbreds.
No jockey is riding better than Durcan at present at this was seen with the victory of Superiority, the jockey riding hard to secure victory in the last stride over Mahfooth.
Mahfooth was one of two Al Quoz runners for Saeed bin Suroor and he showed that a feature event was within his grasp in the near future with this excellent effort, his first since being unplaced behind China Visit in last year¹s UAE Derby.
Slip Stream, the main Al Quoz hope and the mount of Frankie Dettori, dropped out of the race after leading to finish fifth.
Superiority will now obviously target the Group II US$2million Dubai Duty Free run on his favoured Nad Al Sheba turf course on March 24, the race won by the Durcan-ridden Rhythm Band after he finished third in the 2000 Al Fahidi Fort.

Comment: A huge form reversal from one week to the next saw Sarrabe ruin any chance that Nez D'Or had of becoming the first horse to win the Purebred Arabian Triple Crown. The previous week Sarrabe had finished last in a handicap at Abu Dhabi however that run was obviously not a clear indication of his true ability as he got the better of first round winner Nez D'Or in the concluding stages. Sarrabe had arrived in the Emirates with a huge reputation, being one the leaders of his generation in France last year however that was significantly dented on his first run when he was a beaten
horse before straightening. In this he returned to his French form, tracking the highly favoured Nez D'Or throughout the race before having the final run at that horse. Nez D'Or was gallant in defeat and never gave up however Sarrabe proved a little too good on the night. Aneed improved on his first round effort to be closer to Nez D'Or however the first two clearly look to be superior for the third and final round. Taj Al Moulouk disappointed after his second in the opening round to finish fifth while the highly rated Tarek again disappointed.

Comment: Superiority proved here that he was a genuine performer in the highest class in the Emirates, following on from his Listed win in the National Day Cup to success here in the Al Fahidi Fort. In both runnings of this race, the winner has caused a surprise, in 1999/2000 it was Richard Mullen who scored on Grazalema, upsetting more fancied opponents, including Slip Stream, though it must be remembered that Rhythm Band went from finishing third in this to victory in the Group III Dubai Duty Free on Dubai World Cup night. That is the event, no doubt, for Superiority now. The improvement of Superiority over the last year can be measured by the fact that almost 12 months to the day, Superiority defeated Derby Darbak into third place in a 00-100 handicap and yet here he was winning a Prestige event while Derby Darbak had earlier in the evening finished fourth in a 00-100 handicap. Mahfooth underlined his future prospects with an outstanding effort to finish second, his first run since finishing 11th in China Visit's UAE Derby. Maidaan again ran well in Pattern company and one gets the impression his turn is not far away, he was hampered near the line when Mahfooth wandered out a little through tiredness and while he should have finished closer though it is debatable whether it cost him second place. Slip Stream did appear to have a nice run in front and he tired in the final stages and while this was his first run in a year, it was also the case with Mahfooth.
