MACAU CHALLENGERS TARGET DUBAI INTERNATIONAL RACING CARNIVAL

'Team Macau' is heading to Dubai to launch a challenge on the inaugural Dubai International Racing Carnival at Nad Al Sheba racecourse.

"We will be sending around 12 horses in total over for the Dubai International Racing Carnival," stated Ian Paterson, Director of Racing for the Macau Jockey Club, "Malcolm Thwaites, a leading trainer in Singapore has transferred his licence to Macau and he will be sending around six horses to Dubai."

The US$21,000,000 Dubai International Racing Carnival begins on January 29th and lasts for nine weeks of top calibre racing, culminating in the US$6,000,000 Dubai World Cup, sponsored by Emirates Airline, the world's richest race.

"The remaining six horses coming from Macau will be representing five trainers, including one from our leading trainer M C Tam, the trainers have got together as a sort of 'Team Macau' and will send over one person to oversee the collective training of all of their horses. Though when they run they will run under the names of their individual trainers," Paterson commented.

Dantana, trained by Peter Leyshan, is already in Dubai after being given special dispensation to arrive early due to the fact that he ran in the Hong Kong International Races. Paterson said, "The other horses will fly in to Dubai from Macau on the 15th January."

"This is the largest contingent we have sent to race abroad, our pioneer runner was Active Bo Bo who came over to Dubai in 2001 and won the 1,200 metres Mahab Al Shimaal at Nad Al Sheba. We are all really looking forward to the Carnival which I am sure will be a great success," Paterson added.
