Sizing Europe Stays with the Boylesports Plan at Punchestown

Sizing Europe will bid to be the first horse to land back to back wins in the Boylesports.com Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown this Sunday (3rd February).

Henry De Bromhead’s charge heads a field of seven at preliminary entry stage for the Grade 2 feature over two miles. Champion trainer Willie Mullins is represented by Call the Police, Twinlight and Blazing Tempo. Kylebeg Krystle holds an entry for Denis Hogan and fellow Tipperary trainer John Patrick Ryan has entered Foildubh while Oliver Brady’s Imperial Shabra makes up the seventh entry.

Looking forward to Sunday’s renewal trainer Henry De Bromhead said “Sizing Europe did a piece of work on the beach this morning and I’m glad to say that he is in great form. He came out of his race at Christmas well so we are looking forward to the Boylesports Tied Cottage on Sunday. It was a key race in our campaign last year so we are sticking to that plan”.

John Patrick Ryan, trainer of Foildubh, commented on his representative by saying “Foildubh was unlucky in the Kinloch Brae Chase at Thurles a fortnight ago when he was almost brought down at fifth fence and pulled up so he got no race as such that day. He appears to be in great nick at the minute and likes Punchestown having won the Grade A Guinness handicap chase at the festival last year. Two miles is plenty for him on heavy ground but obviously Sizing Europe is the horse to beat.”

The Boylesports.com Tied Cottage Chase boasts an impressive roll of honour with dual winner Moscow Flyer, Cockney Lad, Mansony and the recently retired Big Zeb all featuring. Leon Blanche, Head of Communications at Boylesports, commented: “Boylesports are delighted to sponsor the Tied Cottage yet again and what an achievement it would be if Sizing Europe could win back to back races and join Moscow Flyer in winning the race twice.” He added “It is still unknown what race Sizing Europe will go for at the Cheltenham Festival but hopefully a better idea will be known after Sunday’s race.”

Sunday’s high quality seven race card is commonly considered a Cheltenham trials day with one of only two Irish run Pertemps Hurdle qualifiers, the Grade 2 Racing UK Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle and of course the spectators favourite the Glenfarclas PP Hogan Cross Country Race taking place.

Commenting on the effects of the current bad weather conditions Punchestown Racing Manager Richie Galway said “The track is currently heavy and has coped with the rain well. Given the unsettled forecast for the remainder of the week conditions will certainly be testing”.
