BP= the best price at the time of writing

1) 22P308- Whispered Promises (USA) David Pipe 7-11-12 Tom Scudamore
Has not run since April when outclassed and behind in the Grade One Aintree Hurdle. Back in handicap company and this stable can produce first time out winners. Second in two good handicap hurdles in December, 2006, and is on a 2lb higher rating. BP= 8/1

2) 2430-40 Trouble At Bay (IRE) Alan King 8-11-09 Robert Thornton
Fourth here in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle in November but ran poorly in the Ladbroke at Ascot the following month on fast ground. BP= 9/1

3) 1832-76 Torkinking (IRE) Maurice Barnes 9-11-07 M J McAlister (3)
Ran better than finishing position suggests at Kelso last time out. Useful performer at best but might prefer softer ground. He is a very big price, especially on Betfair, for what he has achieved and is worth a nibble each-way. BP= 33/1

4) 3151/07 Chiaro (FR) Philip Hobbs 6-11-02 Richard Johnson
Has probably needed both starts so far this season after being off for a season. Raced in Grade one company in France and is not out of it. BP= 16/1

5) 731 Luxurix (FR) Paul Webber 7-10-13 Dominic Elsworth
Won a Lingfield novice hurdle last time out and this will be a lot tougher. Worth opposing at this price. BP= 4/1

6) F3-1631 Five Dream (FR) Paul Nicholls 4-10-12 Ruby Walsh
Another ex-French performer. Won a competitive Sandown handicap earlier this month by a length and has gone up 9lb in the handicap for that. Worth opposing. BP= 100/30

7) 3220-23 Mohayer (IRE) Donald McCain Jnr 6-10-09 Jason Maguire
Consistent performer who does not get much respite from the handicapper. BP= 14/1

8) 411-57 Valiant Shadow (GER) Alison Thorpe 6-10-08 Seamus Durack
Lightly raced recently. Probably needed it and found trip too long over two and a half miles at Haydock in December. However, may need to come down in the ratings to win. BP= 25/1

9) 43/1141 Hue Brian Ellison 7-10-06 J P O'Farrell (3)
Won over two miles and six furlongs last time at Sedgefield. in novice event. 8lb higher than when last ran in a handicap when fourth at Carlisle. This is tougher. BP= 25/1

10) 422-612 Sebastiano (FR) Gary Moore 5-10-06 Philip Hide
Second in Kempton handicap last month after winning similar race at Lingfield. 2lb higher now. BP= 20/1

11) 893-659 Dancing Lyra Richard Fahey 7-10-05 P Whelan
Not showing much at the end of his races recently and best overlooked. BP= 22/1

12) 410433 Cottingham (IRE) Richard Lee 7-10-03 Jimmy McCarthy
Consistent sort who will find this grade tough. BP= 25/1

13) 030/10-P Barati (IRE) John Harris 7-10-01 Luke Treadwell
Ex-Irish horse who has yet to show any form in England in two runs over longer distances. BP= 100/1

14) 637F-72 Buck The Legend (IRE) Nigel Twiston-Davies 6-10-01 Paddy Brennan
Maiden who was second over three miles last time. BP= 25/1

15) 09-2121 Mickmacmagoole (IRE) Evan Williams 6-10-00 Paul Moloney
Did well earlier in the season but now races off a 13lb higher mark. BP= 7/1

SUMMARY

An interesting race in which the top-weights should do best. Torkinking comes from a deeply unfashionable stable but his form has been excellent over the last couple of seasons. He has needed his runs this season and is terrific each-way value at nearly 100/1 with Betfair.
