COMMERCIAL BANK OF DUBAI SPONSOR DIRC CARD AT NAD AL SHEBA ON THURSDAY
The Commercial Bank of Dubai sponsor an excellent card at Nad Al Sheba on Thursday, the second meeting of the 2007 Dubai International Racing Carnival.
The valued sponsors, a long-time generous supporter of the Dubai Racing Club, are rewarded with an excellent field for the Group 3 US$200,000 Al Shindagha Sprint.
Mr. Frank Gabriel Jr, CEO of the Dubai Racing Club, said: "We are very honoured to welcome the Commercial Bank of Dubai once again.
"They are one of the leading companies in Dubai, and supported us during the successful Winter Racing Challenge, and now we are indebted to the Commercial Bank of Dubai for supporting the Dubai International Racing Carnival."
The 1200-metre feature Najah Al Shindagha sprint features a Dandy Nicholls-trained trio, headed by Tax Free - a hopeful for the US$2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen.
The five-year-old has won six of his 13 starts and is a regular in the top sprint races around Europe, although this will be his first start on dirt.
British-based Nicholls, whose son Adrian will ride, said: "We're stepping into the unknown running him on dirt, but he's been working well on it.
"Ted Durcan and Willie Supple, who have worked him on the dirt at Nad Al Sheba, said that you know instantly whether horses will handle it, and they don't think he will have a problem.
"He's a good horse, and he's run in some good races, so hopefully a good show here, will get him an invite to the Dubai Golden Shaheen. My record in Dubai hasn't been great, but hopefully that will change."
Cosme Morgado, who trained Imperialista to win last week's feature race on the opening night of the DIRC, is represented by the Brazilian Para-Choque.
Chief supporting race is the $175,000 Asian Racing Federation Stakes, run over 1500 metres, which features Seihali, Vanderlin, Caesar Beware and King Jock.
The winner will receive an invitation - together with travel subsidies - to run in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne on March 3, the first leg of the 2007 Asian Mile Challenge.
Commercial Bank of Dubai was established in 1969, as a Public Shareholding Company by an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
Mr. Peter Baltussen, Chief Executive of Commercial Bank, said: "We at Commercial Bank of Dubai are proud of our commitment to participate in sponsoring horse races at Nad Al Sheba.
"This participation comes within the framework of Commercial Bank of Dubai's social responsibility towards sports and youth activities in UAE.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Saeed H. Al Tayer, Chairman of the Dubai Racing Club and the organising committee for welcoming us to partner the Dubai Racing Club.
"Finally, we hope all race fans and families present here enjoy the evening."
