APPOINTMENT OF NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR AT JOCKEY CLUB ESTATES

Jockey Club Estates are pleased to announce that William Gittus has been appointed Managing Director of the Jockey Club's property and land management company. He will succeed Peter Amos who, after 14 years with Jockey Club Estates, is moving on and joining Darley Stud Management as Group Property Director.

William Gittus is a Partner in the Rural Division of Bidwells, the property consultants. During a five year career at Bidwells he has risen from trainee land agent to Divisional Partner. He has experience of managing a wide ranging portfolio of properties, including agricultural, equestrian, residential and commercial property.

Julian Richmond-Watson, Chairman of Jockey Club Estates, said: "We are delighted that William will be joining Jockey Club Estates. His experience will be a great asset when he becomes responsible for the management and administration of 4,500 acres of land in and around Newmarket, including over eighty-five residential and commercial properties. He will also oversee our interests in Lambourn, where we have recently acquired 500 acres of property.

"As William will be based in Newmarket, it is a bonus that he is familiar with the area having been brought up nearby. He lives with his family near Bury St Edmunds and has experience of managing property in the locality. We are sad to be losing Peter Amos after all he has done for Jockey Club Estates, but we are excited about the prospect of William joining the company."

Depending on his commitments at Bidwells, it is expected that William will start working for Jockey Club Estates in March.

Peter Amos, the current Managing Director, also endorsed the appointment, adding: "I am looking forward to working closely with William until my departure. He actually has a similar background to that which I had when I started and I believe he has a great deal to offer to Jockey Club Estates. I wish him all the best and I hope that he finds the job as challenging and rewarding as I have."

William is 39 and married with two children. After attending university and RMA Sandhurst, William spent four years with the 2nd Gurkha Rifles with postings in Hong Kong, Brunei and the Falkland Islands. He has worked on a variety of farms and also been employed as an HGV lorry driver and Master and Kennel Huntsman of the Newmarket Beagles. His career as a chartered surveyor commenced in 1997.

Following the appointment of a new managing director, Jockey Club Estates are now in the process of identifying a suitable candidate to manage the Mandown Gallops in Lambourn. The successful applicant will report to the Managing Director and be responsible for the maintenance and management of the turf and all weather gallops.
