MASSIVE TOTE JACKPOT LANDED AT WOLVERHAMPTON
The Tote jackpot enjoyed another successful day as more than £290,000 was added to the £220,054 carried over to Wolverhampton today, making a total pool of £510,976. With £169.50 worth of stakes still going heading into the last leg, Queen's Rhapsody was carrying just £6 worth of tickets, leading to celebrations for small and large staking customers alike. The dividend was £60,465.40 to a £1 stake.
"Yesterday's £440,000 pool was great news, but to get a £1/2 million pound pool less than 4 weeks after increasing the minimum unit stake has been a real shot in the arm for the Tote Jackpot and proof that people will have a go at the bet when the amount they are playing for becomes big enough. We would not have reached the levels of interest and publicity of the last 2 or 3 days with a 10p unit stake, as the Jackpot would have been won much earlier in the week" said Tote PR Director Andy Clifton. "We're also pleased that a number of smaller staking customers have picked up huge amounts for relatively modest stakes.
A Tote Credit telephone customer won £60,465.49 for a £30 stake after initially thinking that their winnings were half of that, forgetting that a non-runner selected in the first race had gone on to the winning favourite and a Ladbrokes customer from a shop in Hatfield won £30,000 plus for a £24 stake. All in all, there were 8 individual winners, with only one large staking syndicate successful.
SCOOP6 PICKS UP JACKPOT BATON FOR THE WEEKEND
The Scoop6 will pick up the baton from the Jackpot tomorrow to provide punters with their big bet fix to end a big betting week in which around £700,000 pounds has been bet into the Jackpot pool.
An anonymous £2 staking punter from Newquay in Cornwall has the chance to become the latest small staking punter to land a hefty sized Scoop6 Win/Bonus double tomorrow when he gets the chance to add the £26,043 Bonus prize fund to the £60,767 he landed on the bet last Saturday.
Last Saturday, postal worker Robert Sterritt from Preston took his total haul on the bet to £137,000 when winning the Bonus prize fund after playing the Scoop6 for the very first time.
"One thing that won't need warming up tomorrow will be the Tote pools which have already seen around £700,000 worth of Jackpot money pass through them this week" said Tote spokesman Jeremy Scott. "After a week of furious punting on the Jackpot, punters will have to turn their attentions to meetings at Sandown and Wetherby which make up the Scoop6 cards tomorrow."
"With the recent cold spell we'd advise Scoop6 players to check the legs before they place their Scoop6 lines tomorrow. Scoop6 legs will be confirmed on The Morning Line on Channel4 at 9am tomorrow, or can be found on Channel4 teletext pages 667/668 or on the Tote website www.tote.co.uk. Legs will also be displayed in Tote Bookmakers
shops and in shops displaying the Tote Direct sign."
Saturday's Bonus race is the 3.05 from Sandown.
Saturday's Scoop6 legs are:
leg 1 1.40 Wetherby
leg 2 2.00 Sandown
leg 3 2.30 Sandown
leg 4 3.05 Sandown
leg 5 3.25 Wetherby
leg 6 3.40 Sandown
INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN MAY BE NEXT FOR FEET SO FAST
Feet So Fast put himself in line for a possible international sprint campaign after a brilliant performance saw him defy Godolphin¹s Firebreak in the Listed Al Shindagha Sprint at Nad Al Sheba last Thursday night.
In winning the Al Shindagha Sprint Feet So Fast completed the HH The President Cup Al Shindagha Sprint double won by Glad Master in 2002 however what makes his feat so impressive is that he had to come back from 1,400m to 1,200m unlike last year when the races were reversed.
Where Feet So Fast heads now is uncertain as he is clearly superior on the turf but the remainder of the major sprints in the Emirates are on the dirt.
Feet So Fast's only failure in the Emirates was his first run when unplaced on the dirt however since then he was third to Orchestrated in the Al Shindagha Sprint Prep before completing his feature double and trainer Satish Seemar said after the race that he would like to give the horse another chance on the dirt.
"To get rid of our doubts we had to try him on the dirt," Seemar said.
"We might give him another chance and if Sheikh Rashid agrees me might run him in the Jebel Ali Sprint."
The AED350,000 Listed Jebel Ali Sprint, is run on February 21 and will pose another test for Feet So Fast as he will have to face State City and come back to the 1,000m. Naturally a win there would guarantee his participation in the US$2,000,000 Group I Dubai Golden Shaheen on March 29.
Godolphin narrowly missed on their first winner for 2003 when Firebreak failed by a neck to overhaul Feet So Fast while the Allan Smith-trained Yajree was a length and a quarter away third.
Smith however enjoyed a very successful evening, continuing his recent run of form with another winning treble, Persuasivo Fitz winning the Mekong Handicap, Bourkan won the Greenline Interiors Cup for the amateur riders and Baaridd the Tattersalls Trophy.
This was Smith's second treble in six days meetings having collected a bonus of a kilogram of gold for winning last Friday's trainer's competition at Jebel Ali. Gary Hind was aboard Persuasivo Fitz and Baaridd, continuing his good form, while Bourkan gave Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum his first winner from just his second ride, his first was on the horse a week ago when second behind Al Ash Hab, ridden by his brother Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.
Aditiyan Selvaratnam welcomed his second winner of the season when Mythical Jinks won the Maiden, defying the late challenge from stablemate Baynunah and denying Australian jockey Kerrin McEvoy with a winner on his first night in the Emirates.
Julian Smart received a timely confidence booster ahead of Nez D'Or's reappearance in Sunday evening's Group I HH The President Cup for the Purebred Arabians when Newmoon easily won the opening event.
The John Sadler-John Murtagh combination has proven highly successful in their first season together and they combined for another winner when Monjez won the final event.

Comment: FEET SO FAST emulated Glad Master in completing the HH The President Cup Al Shindagha Sprint double however what makes his feat more impressive is that in contrast to last year, he had to come back from the 1,400m of the HH The President Cup to the 1,200m of the Al Shindagha Sprint after the races were reversed from their original dates of previous seasons. There is no doubt that FEET SO FAST is a horse of some quality and it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. He has shown a distinct liking to the turf, his only run on the dirt seeing him fail however that was first-up and he may well be worth another chance. If not he does hold an entry in the International Sprint in Singapore and judging on this performance there is no reason to suggest he will not be competitive in it. Settling back behind the speed but only two to three lengths off the pace set by ORCHESTRATED and HISTORIC TREBLE with Godolphin's FIREBRTEAK behind him. At the top of the straight he was given his head and went to the lead easily however FIREBREAK was also ready to challenge. With the advantage of previous racing FEET SO FAST managed to get a gap on FIREBREAK and got two lengths clear of him at the 200m however FIREBREAK showed his quality in getting to the line strongly, never giving up and he eventually got to within a neck of the winner. There is no doubt that FIREBREAK will come on a great deal for this and his effort to get as close as he did to FEET SO FAST was a quality performance. YAJREE ran right up to his previous effort in handicap company to finish third while YARUBA stayed on well to finish fourth. YARUBA's jockey Gerald Avranche objected against the winner for interference at the 300m however after seeing a replay of the race decided to withdraw the objection. CONROY (seventh) continues to struggle to find his best form while ORCHESTRATED (eighth) and ONE BY THE KNOWS (ninth) disappointed, not repeating their recent efforts. The 1:11.90 which they recorded in this was just outsides the race record set by Snow Kid in 2000 and faster than Mutamayyaz's 1:12.96 in 2001 and Glad Master's 1:12.26 last year. FEET SO FAST is a quality sprinter and deserves another try on the dirt, considering all of the major sprints left in the Emirates are run on that surface while FIREBREAK's effort showed that he had returned as well as ever and there is a very good race in him this campaign.
