GOING: GOOD TO SOFT, SOFT IN PLACES
BP= best price offered by Coral, William Hill, Ladbrokes & Tote
1) 1-25 Hussard Collonges Peter Beaumont 8-11-10 Russ Garritty
Proved himself a top novice chaser last season when putting up a gutsy performance to land the Grade One Royal & SunAlliance Chase at Cheltenham. Far from disgraced on his two outings this season when second in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby over Christmas and fifth last time out in the Hennessey under a big weight. Should go well again here, but has to concede weight away all round and not great value.
BP= 2/1 Coral
2) 171- Barton Tim Easterby 10-11-08 Tony Dobbin
Former top-class hurdler who proved himself to be very effective over fences last season, culminating in an impressive victory in the Martell Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree over three miles and a furlong. Was beaten on seasonal reappearance last year and may just need this following his return from a foot problem.
BP= 9/2 Ladbrokes, Tote, Coral
3) 2F-P Iznogoud Martin Pipe 7-11-02 Tony McCoy
Progressive sort last season with his best effort coming when second to Hussard Collonges at Cheltenham. However, put up a very lifeless display when pulled up in the Hennessy on seasonal reappearance and questions to answer here, though any Pipe horse cannot be dismissed out of hand.
BP= 7/1 Tote
4) 7FU2 Bindaree Nigel Twiston-Davies 9-10-11 Carl Llewellyn
The 2002 Martell Grand National winner, but has not been in the same form so far this season. Better effort last time when second in the Rehearsal Chase, but was well held that by See More Business, who was giving him 20lb. Likely to find three miles too sharp for him in any case and he is not for us today.
BP= 18/1 Coral
5) 5-54 Whitenzo Paul Nicholls 7-10-10 Joe Tizzard
Very useful performer, especially on soft ground, on his day. However, he is often let down by his jumping and has thrown away good chances in both the Charlie Hall and Hennessy so far this season with bad jumping errors. Would have a great chance here if he put in a clear round, but this track usually sorts out the bad jumpers.
BP= 9/2 Ladbrokes & Coral
6) 6-3F Truckers Tavern Ferdy Murphy 8-10-09t Davy Russell
Very decent novice in 2001/02, with three wins and an excellent fourth over an inadequate two miles in the Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival. Shaped well under a big weight on reappearance in decent handicap at Kelso but got no further than the first in a valuable handicap at Ascot last time. However, usually and jumps well and looks worth another chance today. Could still be well handicapped.
BP= 5/1 Tote, William Hill
7) 1U51 Goguenard Sue Smith 9-10-04 Warren Marston
Good soft ground handicapper on his day but has never really looked quite up this class and has also never really looked as though he is suited by three miles (well beaten seventh in this race last year). Has been winning at two and a half miles.
BP= 18/1 Coral
8) 3U-P Royale De Vassy Venetia Williams 9-10-04 Frank Windsor Clive (5)
Fairly decent handicapper on her day, winning at Cheltenham. Not seen out since poor run at Uttoxeter in May. Usually stays and jumps well, but this looks too tough for her.
BP= 25/1 William Hill
9) 76P- Scotmail Boy Howard Johnson 10-10-04 Seamus Durack
Moderate chaser who is impossible to fancy from 7lb out of the handicap.
BP= 200/1 William Hill & Coral
SUMMARY
TRUCKERS TAVERN could still be potentially well treated and 5/1 is a good price, especially each-way.
GOOD LUCK
