Thursday, October 26, is a fabulous day for fillies at Lingfield Park with two valuable Listed contests dedicated to them, plus a maiden.

Prize money on the day amounts to just under £100,000, with £67,000 on offer in the fillies’ only races on Polytrack..

The two Listed races each carry £30,000 in prize money and are sponsored by the European Breeders Fund.

The Listed EBF Fleur De Lys Fillies’ Stakes (3.20pm) over a mile is for fillies and mares aged three years and upwards who have not won a Group One race in 2006. Winners of a Group Three or Group Two race this year carry 5lb and 7lb penalties respectively, while Listed race winners shoulder a 3lb penalty.

The Listed European Breeders Fund River Eden Fillies’ Stakes (3.50pm) over a mile and five furlongs is a brand new race for three-year-olds and upwards, who have not won a Group One race in 2006. The contest is named after the nearby River Eden, tributaries of which run through the centre of Lingfield Park Racecourse.

The EBF in conjunction with Ladbrokes also sponsors the day’s opening contest, which is confined to two-year-old fillies, the £7,000 EBF Ladbrokes.com Maiden Fillies Stakes (1.50pm) over seven furlongs, as well as an open juvenile maiden run over the same distance, the EBF Ladbrokes 24 Hour Betting 0800 777 800 Maiden Stakes (2.20pm).

Ladbrokes is also involved in backing two other races on the seven-race card - the £5,000 10-furlong Poker At Ladbrokes.com Handicap at 2.50pm and the concluding seven-furlong Deal Or No Deal at Ladbrokes.com Handicap at 4.50pm, also worth £5,000.

The remaining race is the seven-furlong £12,500 Weatherbys Bank Handicap at 4.20pm,

Entries for all races on Thursday, October 26, close at noon on Friday, October 20.

Ian Renton, Arena Leisure’s Director of Racing, said: “It is a great pleasure to be able to stage these opportunities for fillies at this time of year.

“I am looking forward to seeing some real quality entries for these Listed races. Our thanks go to the European Breeders Fund, Ladbrokes and Weatherbys Bank for their most generous sponsorship.”

Fillies running in October maidens at Lingfield Park should be considered even more closely than previously following the superb triumph of Pride in the Group One Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, October 14. The very special mare finished runner-up in just such a contest on her second career start in October, 2003.

Having since progressed to clock up well over £1 million in prize money, six Group race victories so far, and finished a close second in the Group One Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this year, the Alain de Royer-Dupre-trained six-year-old will undertake one more global challenge at the Hong Kong International meeting in December before heading off to the paddocks.

It is not just the fillies Lingfield Park is seeking to encourage. This prestigious raceday falls during half-term week and a Halloween Family Fun Day will take place in association with the Brooke Hospital for Horses.

Among the various children’s entertainment during the fun-packed afternoon is a witches and wizards hobby horse race to be run on the course. For further information, please telephone Lingfield Park Racecourse on 01342 834800.
